2004 also had Need For Speed Underground 2, and Gran Turismo 4 - The first fully open-world street racing game that is reminisced to this day, and a top-notch circuit racing game that looks way ahead of its time

In 2004 we also had Burnout 3, Need for Speed Underground 2, Flatout 1, Colin McRae Rally 4, freaking Gran Turismo 4, Juiced.. if you care for that, Kaido 2 but I doubt anyone but me cares, Toca Race Driver 2 which is fine but the next entry would be a banger, Rallisport Challenge 2 and freaking Richard Burns Rally which is still argued to be one of the best rally racing sims of all time. With mods that is, but still. For racing games, 2004 was nuts!

yeah the ps2/gamecube/xbox era was like the precambian explosion for gaming, so much variety, shorter development cycles, so many revolutionary games coming out. it was a new frontier in gaming.

My favorite 2004 games are probably SpongeBob Movie Game GTA San Andreas Ratchet 3 Star Wars Battlefront Jak 3 Prince of Persia 2 Sonic Heroes (Technically a 2003 game ported to PC in 2004 which is the version I'm most familiar with)

Monster Hunter also came out in 2004. MHW is Capcoms best selling game period. It was one of the first games to expand an semi open world boss simulation game.

Despite being only 3 at the time, you somehow nailed the feeling of game development then. I was 9 in 2004, so I can remember the PS1 (just about, we only had a Tony Hawks game and crash warped with no memory card lol) all the way through to now. Things were developing so fast in retrospect, although it felt normal when I was growing up, maybe I was just lucky to grow up through that time, although I took a lot of it for granted. Even whole genres like RTS came and went in that time. Runescape was my equivalent to minecraft, it was the first massively multiplayer game that I spent ages wasting my time in and it's where my username originated from. I've gone through many phases of games I was interested in, including MMO, FPS and MOBA, but now I have come back to these old PS2 games recently like the R&C series and Sly Cooper (definitely give it a play through) and having lots of fun with them. Back when most games didn't take themselves too seriously or demanded inane amounts of time or money to enjoy playing them (i.e. free to play game models). You actually owned the physical copy of the game (kind of) and jumped in whenever you wanted to enjoy it. It felt back then like there was more genuine passion and exploring creativity went into these games, perhaps because they were less resource intensive to develop (I would take less fidelity if everything else about the game was better, maybe AI asset generation fills this gap?). They had more genuine artisitic motivation than commercial. Nowadays the science and psychology of extracting the most from the customer is everywhere, and more people getting in with degrees in game design (probably, just my guess) to the point where everything becomes algorithmic and derivative (or literal remakes of old games). There are still great games but it feels like they are fewer and farther between. I hope we go through some renaissance in gaming at some point, and come back to more genuine artistic creation, although tempered with the experience of good game design, in future games.

Best race games of all time: Burnout 3 Takedown & Need for speed Underground 2. Both from 2004

A fair mix of genres with good games. Racing games were good in these era and year Flatout, Burnout 3, Toca Race Driver 2, Outrun 2, Richard Burns Rally, Ridge Racer PSP & GT4 in Japan. Far Cry came out that year, Fable, Ninja Gaiden, Kuon (for horror fans), Chronicles of Riddick for those that know know, Viewful Joe, Sims 2, World of Warcraft, Sid Meier's Pirates and Rome Total War is something for strategy fans. Lumines is a good puzzle game for PSP. Drakengard started that year. Rainbow Six 3 Athena Sword, Battlefield Vietnam, Steel Battalion, Unreal 2, Maixmo, Fallout Brotherhood of Steel, FF Crystal Chronicles, FF 11, Manhunt, Ribbot King, Tales of Symphonies, Driver 3. Ratchet 3 isn't my favourite but it's fine. Scaler was good (yes I care about B grades), Pikmin 2 is probably good not played but the content seemed worth it. I don't care for Sly (1 is the only one I like) but 2 a bit odd and not my thing. Star Wars Battlefront is great even if 2 is an improvement. GBA Micro is the last GBA model even if eh screen and a novelty. Halo 2 is eh I didn't like it at all. The dual wielding was the only thing I care for it doing back in the day. Half Life 2 was fine not played enough but I thought it was 'fine'. I get what it does but eh. Tak 2, Malice, Battle Engine Aquila one of the best vehicular combat games I think, Under the Skin the Capcom game that is very underrated. Killzone 1, Spyro A Hero's Tail, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, Feel the Magic, Blinx 2 the forgotten game of the Xbox, Beaten Kaitos Eternal Wings, Alien Hominid the Newgrounds game can't forget that. LOT Battle for Middle Earth, Cave Story of all things. So many others of course. Also everyone who didn't play the Dreamcast and remember online there before Xbox Live in 2003 not 99-01 lol XD Games these days are fine to boring but many are standardised and cut the great mechanics and good ideas of the past to have more wider appeal and less ambitious experimentation, others liven things up a bit in comparison and only few really did good things then that can't be replicated to compete but we're amazing then for out there design we don't see anymore and I miss that era of out there and refining 3D game design.

2004 was a good year but there has been much better ones, like 2007. In my opinion '04 was just a cluster of good sequels, and iterative design probably peaked in the 90's when devs could realistically push a whole new title per year as the industry norm. In fact Doom 3 isn't iterative at all (the real third classic Doom is Doom 64), it's basically a soft reboot, so it kinda breaks your argument to include it. Even if you acknowledge that you don't really know what you're taking about a few times in the video as a bit of joke, your argument is actually pretty flimsy. And no you don't need to have personally experienced a time to be qualified to talk about it, otherwise historians would need to be hundreds of years old, you just need to properly researched them and then reach a conclusion instead of looking for proof that justifies an assumption.
