Children pay attention to the actions and behaviors of their parents, causing them to act out in the same way. A lot of great men are who they are because of the example their fathers set for them. Some kids have no example, can't really blame them
just wanted to leave something about the positive side of Mobile. I live here and have been here since I was 17. I'm 29 now and I have a high paying job at Austal in Mobile. Yes there is a lot of people in Mobile that don't want to see you have anything. Yes I'm married to the mother of my child. I do not go to clubs of hang in the streets all day. I have no felonies. It's not many jobs down here but if you work hard and stay focused you can make it.
Carolyn, I'm not so sure about that. I say that because I graduated from South Alabama with a degree in operations management that pay wise hasn't done me jack for good! Had I not gone back and put my aviation background to use I'd probably be saying "welcome to Walmart!" If you go and get a degree in computer science, nursing, teaching, medicine, or engineering you'll do okay. Pursue anything else and you are for the most part just pissing in the wind! Apart from that I know folks who work in trades that make a hell of a lot more than some folks who've been out of college 30 years. Sure school is a good thing but take it from me; you want to study something that's in demand. I to am from Mobile and yes Mobile IS a bitch....always has been always will be and I'm glad I don't work there no more. Far as I'm concerned Mobile is an old Indian word for "dead city!"
Slick D I live in Mobile as well and I feel that this inly shows one side of the city which is the hood. I am also married with four girls and yes they have the same father. People are so quick to judge a place or a person based on one sided views. For him to say no one from here wants to be Doctors, Lawyers, or Nurses anymore floored me. My sister is in nursing school and I just graduated college. So, I feel if they apply themselves they too can become productive model citizens who make good money so that they can relocate to explore better opportunities.
+Slick D, so you are Black. I respect that you have been in Mobile, Alabama since you were 17 years old. I was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1972 and lived in Mobile, Alabama until 1996. I noticed that you made the following statement (follow the quotes): " I'm 29 now and I have a high paying job at Austal in Mobile. Yes, there is a lot of people in Mobile that don't want to see you have anything. Yes, I'm married to the mother of my child. I do not go to clubs or hang in the streets all day. I have no felonies. It's not many jobs down here but if you work hard and stay focused you can make it."(End of Quote) + Slick D, let me give you some tough love. 1) Mobile is the place where the last slave ship in America appeared. 2) Mobile is where the most recent egregious lynching occurred in America(i.e. Michael Donald circa 1980). 3) Mobile is one of the places in America where Black folks were enslaved before 1776, but you ridicule Black Folks without acknowledging the terrorism that Black people have endured for 400 years. It is hilarious to me that people have realized if you abuse a dog, the dog may bite you. But no one has realized that if you abuse and plunder Black people; they may have some dysfunction behavior. 4} +Slick D, you say the following: "It's not many jobs down here but if you work hard and stay focused you can make it" (End of Quote) Now, +Slick D, you are confusing me. "Not many jobs here, but if you work hard." +Slick D, it sounds like you are just making up S.H.I.T. Please forgive me if I am misinterpreting you. +Slick D, you have not lived in Mobile long enough to comment on Black Folks. This is my respectable way of saying, " Shut the Fuck Up!!!"
I got alot of respect for these dudes. they ain't on here flashing guns and gang signs. just talking sone real shit. these are my definition of real dudes.
My grandparents are from the south both having middle school educations but were the wisest people I've ever known. There is wisdom in the south. May The Lord be with my brothers and sisters in the south. Stay all the way up.
You should have let the man in grey hat continue on how women are given incentive to take fathers out of the home. That was really important part actually you should have let him go on. I hope and wish this man comes up in life, he can provide value for someone, something. He has potential. God bless him.
Hey man for some reason I seen your name.. and uh.. it's similiar to my name if u don't mind link up with me.. I got a RU-vid and u can find my instagram.. n I got videos bruh so u know I'm foreal.. I just wanted to ask you about your name.. it gotta be something I put.the O on the from of Khan.. because if the African deities.. but yeah.. I can tell u what it really means later N shouts to Joe Cain.. Mardi Gras
"I'm trynna keep it different, everybody got guns and drugs, I aint showing you nothing different if I show you guns and drugs" Realest shit. The homie wise. Hope he makes it out.
Being from Mobile and from the same area these dudes are in I can testify that there are a lot of brothers that are intelligent like dude but are trapped in a never ending cycle of street existence and all it comes with. Given half a chance there is no telling what these guys can become, IF THEY LIVE LONG ENOUGH!
never ignorant college don't pay the bills around here or put a food on the table. College is for motherfuckas who have stable life and family. Niggas are in survival mode 💯
anonymous user That's only a hand full more people with degrees have better jobs than without.. Why do people always bring this up? Yes it worked for them doesn't mean it's going to work for other's
The guy in the gray knit cap is wise and has a chance at escaping his environment. I'll say it again, it's ignorant to think that a race is inferior to another, but it's also ignorant to think that inner city culture isn't inferior to other American cultures. No sensible person would want to live around that culture. And when you live in a shithole, other folks in the shithole don't want you to succeed because it makes them realize what failures they are.
My Nana was from here before she moved to Richmond,Va and lastly Philly. She was a great woman and ain't take no tea for the fever, would cut you to short to shit and would tell it like it t.i. is. RIP Nana God bless, Mobile, Alabama. #richboy #letsgetthispaper
the brother in the gray had is dead on!!! your thesis is extremely substantiated. Give all that to the youth in your community. that is where it begins. educate the young kids!!!! salute ❤
This is my city. So depressing to hear these young guys talking about the lack of opportunities and the feelings of helplessness. Especially since there are a good many jobs in the shipyards not two miles away. With all the manufacturing, Mobile's job market is booming for tradesmen.
+x5starhustla I bet he'd work hard if he had a good, steady job. In 6 months, he could be making 15 or 20 bucks an hour + benefits as an apprentice welder. Problem is that Mobile County Schools want to push everyone into college. They don't teach trades anymore. So its hard to know how to get started...
I’m African living in the state , my heart hurts deeply when I see a brother like the one in grey hat, smart and stuck in his environment. The hood is full of brothers and sisters like him. I pray that the Hand that made him opens differents kinds of opportunities for him so he can pull some couple of others with him.
This is my city and it's indeed disheartening to hear these guys talk about the depressing streets and no motivation. The guy being interviewed is not a dumb ass. He gets it, but the fact that he spells it out the only thing these people aspire to be is what the see in the streets is sad. With endless opportunities for education and learning skills, there is no sense for anyone to live such a lifestyle unless they chose it.
@@youngmurk100 I agree but most every child eventually has the opportunity to do something else once they are old enough to realize what's going on and make the decision to leave that life behind. There is endless opportunity for, a young man/woman. They just have to "see the light", want it and go for it...
After listening I was able to hear their hearts and for all those that are trying critique these brothers.....you just don't get it! I hear their pain loud and clear.
I am from Mobile. I don't know the man in the gray beanie. My brother, you were speaking the real. As a black community, we must stick together. A paradigm shift that Dr. Boyce Watkins wrote about. People say ATL is "the Trap". Not really. Mobile is the trap. Really Really. I love home, but I had to leave to get opportunities.
ronstoppable107 y’all right. The whites should too as yellows and browns. Whites need to start being proud to be white instead of thinking they have to give money to blacks
KJ hustle guy one of them said " we don't sell any cific drug" or even worse he might have said " we don't sell any Pacific drug " and that's talking sense to you? I'm just saying...
Get over the semantics. to fully understand you have to be willing to at least try to relate. stay out of judgment, and a deeper level of enlightenment is I inevitable.
Went to college with MANY brothas from Mobile..Pritchard area from humble homes..who did great things..still impacting today..destruction doesn't have to be permanent. I'm sure some of these troubled fellas fell from the same vine. Change is inevitable..it also comes back around. No one is giving up on you brothas..never.
Grew up around brothers like this, right around the corner from where they are, on Kellogg Street in the RV Taylor projects. Many of these guys could and should have been more, but didn't want to leave the hood mentality behind. There are two types of brothers: Brothers trying to grow as men, and brothers trying to remain "faithful" to the streets. Guess which ones make it out? I tried to stay tight with the ones that were trying to grow as men and we helped each other rise out of the conditions. These fellas seem smart. I wish I could have reached them at some point and helped them along the way.
Mann!!! I don't even recognize Orange Grove on here. It looks like the new Magnolia projects. I remember walking thru Orange Grove when they were real projects back in 92 - 97
mobile is a horrible place to live a lot of killings for no reason and murders go unsolved my brother was murdered and the case was never solved it's so many cold cases in mobile/Prichard al the crime has to stop it's sad...
I was raised in mobile and Prichard and I was young and I have nothing but good memories. Maybe it's because that's where my family is but I love where I was raised and the place gave me a lot of good memories. I love going back. Have not been in a while. Family reunion was last year but I did not get to go. I would really like to go back very soon and see if the old house we used to live in is still there.
Yea man now that I’m older all my siblings have different dads it’s make me depressed I feel like I have limited connection growing apart & constantly overthinking what did I or my mother ur do for him to not care about me…shit sucks
Nephew... I was born in evergreen right up 65 and it breaks my heart to see what Alabama has become I spent most of my life in C Town Ohio im a lot older than you...you remind me of one if my sons. The older men in this country need young men like yourself to find your niche and stay to it. I see sooooo much in you. Good and strong willing to change and change the world. Now know you cant save everyone even some of them you love. Get in contact I really dont have no bread but... A boatload of knowledge to share. Stay out the way and that's a start. Peace and love from Cleveland
Can't lie, being born in NY seems like a blessing when seeing how these southern niggas living. Mobile don't look too bad, but you could feel the energy almost through the screen. I only get that feeling when I see Louisiana hoods. I've drove through the hood in Chicago. It don't give me that feeling. Salute to the soldiers in the south. Facts.
If you in the comments running your mouth about the people or situation in Mobile and you ain't from there fall back or show up an do something, I know yall wouldn't be running them mouths in Mobile. hmmmmm. Port City, Mobb Town, my home I grew up south Mobile, and live there. bet. yall couldn't handle it. love Mobile!
Dude with the gray cap on, get your education and go back to Mobile to help your people. You are so knowledgeable about the problems of our people and what is going on.even without a college degree you have the ability to do the work. Our country need you and I hope that you will be able to to teach people and our government how to achieve the same supposedly Dream that all of us have to succeed and to help others.
I must say I've watched a lot of videos of gang members in their hood talking & flashing EVERYTHING but these guys in Alabama have more common since than any other gang/hood I've watched. Not flashing all their shit is fucken SMART. Not only that but every topic they touched on was true. Put it like this..if I was in a rival gang from a rival hood these are the guys I'd be worried about because their smart.
Them Mobile boys some of the hardest most gangster niggas Ive ever came across. I lived in Panama City Beach and during spring break, already know they gonna be some shootouts in the parking lots, and people getting bodied. And they chillin on vacation for Spring Break..Them Mobile boys bout that gun play now
They sound just like the ppl from Chicago and Jackson, Mississippi. I lived in Chicago for 7 years, and visited this city, and a few others. I thought that I was there was no difference in the accents.
Why dis man didn't take dis man through Prichard? SMH! If dis about da streets of Mobile well, Prichard is the HEART. Suppose to been da first place to go. Your not going to see nothing in Orange Grove R.V. are The Campground! Prichard is the biggest hood in Mobile. Nothing happens in Mobile without Prichard. But everybody can't go in Prichard tho. He probably didn't wanted to get disrespected on camera bye going there.
Who randomly has this pop up and very interested in watching after what just happened to honey komb Brazy grandparents RIP y’all be blessed and praise God.......2021
I'm born and raised in the bottom and grew up in Tville and my dad grew up in Rodger Williams project when I got out of prison 2003 I left 6 month later and have been living here ever since best decision I ever made in my life..Yeah I done had some ups and downs in Florida but I'm so glad I didn't get stuck in the hood
The greatest thing about this documentary is how it brings to light the massive cultural gap people living in the hoods of the south grow up with. These hoods are in the richest city in alabama. A really nice city all in all, but these guys are speaking broken English.
My daddy is from mobile. His daddy was in the air force during the 50s n 60s. We grew up in very rural south ga. But all thru the 90s we never missed a Mardi gras in mobile. It was a whole different world to me n my brother.. Haven't been there since like 99, maybe 2000.. I bet its changed as much in the 2000s, in my eyes as it did for my daddy, from the 60/70s to the 80/90s..
Facts.. Im from Birmingham Alabama. In the hoods here so fucked up. I visted cali and seen they hood and seen that we really got it fucked up down here
Lived in Mobile for three years i used to work at the scrap yard in Orange Grove i lived in Plateau and West Mobile my oldest boy was born in Mobile i will always have love for my former home.
I don't see any drive. they were just talking about not being successful in " the hustle, rap, and the game" try getting a job and applying yourself in school. I got family just out the pen. and they turned it around so can you
Dat nigga ain't lying.... On my soul, I love this video.. I'm from the Bottom right next to Orange Grove across from the Campground... Real shit he talking
Boy that young brother is smart. I myself am from the city. Left and never moved back. But I miss it. I dont miss the sulfer smell from the paper factories tho. Lol
this mindset is not just mobile, the southeast, the south it is nation wide.why?how is it possible that black people nation wide dress the same, walk the same, talk the same behave the same/ how is it possible?
We don't realize that it's a system. A system we didn't design, but one we're forced to live. Some of your strongest, and smartest individuals is in the streets. Some make it out, some don't. And it's an easy thing to say that they can just do something different, but in reality it's not. That brokenness my man spoke on runs generations deep. And we have a lot of Educated Puppets, still attached to the strings. But it's a new breed rising. Im not from Mobile, but I've walked the same streets in Chicago.
I’m from Orange Grove 506 N. Lawrence St and if want out you can get out. I love my hood and don’t forget where I’m from. I grew up living in a single parent house hold. As of today I’m B.S in Aeronautical Science on my way to flying accomplishing my dream. My people there is a way out. You have to start with yourself and once you make it out teach your community you can accomplish your dream and make it out
Dude in da gray hat said sum real shit.... He got sum 4real streets sense I felt tht shit str8 up... If u not from them streets u want understand this shit 💯💯💯
Listen a person is always a product of there enviroment 90 % of the time a few do get that fighting chance and go above and beyond the hood succeed and get the hell out of there but anyway regardless of who these kids are how they act where they are from what they do on a daily basis or how their loves are going to become any money bet i bet you each and every one of these people in this documentary have individually something special or talented about them wether it be that they rap, they writr , they draw, they dance or they are just them im sure these people have hearts of gold are funny loving and intelligent ..... so my love and blessings go out to all of them, i dont judge any one of them and neither should anyone else cuz people who live in glass houses shouldnt throw stones MEANING ( One who is open to criticism should not criticize others )
Zachary Taylor Talk to some inner city black youth and get your answers. The Black culture is more than what you think, you probably only know the bad side which is sad.
i wasnt talking about culture. I was talking about statistics. Black "culture" is a cancer on the USA and has infected our nation. Now we have literal retards mumbling on the radio, and people think it's acceptable.
Ol boy had me for a minute. First talking about "The System" and how they don't want black fathers in the home. And How you gone know how to love a woman if you never seen nobody love your mother? I thought he was on some real talk. Then he started talking about snitching.....lost me completely right there. He never said nothing about not doing things and committing crimes so nobody has a reason to snitch on you!
dj jones My mama raised 7 of us by herself and we all turned out just fine so cut the BS you don't want to be s*** you don't want to have s*** and you ain't going to never be nothing
When do you have time to study or work if you are driving around in a car or talking on the sidewalk all of the time? Why do the men talk so much and do so little?
I hung out in orange Grove whenever we worked at the dry docks welding on the cruise ships use to party with a older brother nicknamed killer had a big close family of really good people.
Mark Pikus this is a small section of Mobile, Alabama. The projects are partly in downtown and lead into Prichard, Alabama. The Mobile, Alabama that I live in is nothing like this shit
As a South African 🇿🇦 in South Africa,I just want to check all 50 states of America and see if really is it really all good there🇺🇸. Alabama (1/10)rating Reason I rate 1, I am a male nurse who stays with his wife and two daughters and 1 son. I see 1 out of 10 chances I would have made to become a male registered nurse coming from this neighborhood and raise my family too. 'Next stop is the streets of Alaska, let's go'
+SSBSTS12 shit there's hoods in every state. Nigga there's Piru & Rolling 60's in Idaho that'll bust your head you come wrong in their city. Shit, is real all around the map. You just have to stay in your lane & mind your own.
