I lived out there growing up in my teens in the 90s as a lil white boy from Ohio. Ended up in juvenile lockup for most of my life. Way too much going on. Phoenix is live as hell. Everywhere you go is different gangs. Everyone just ended up moving to the newer developments. South Phoenix is gutter. Cant just walk around down there.
I grew up on the east coast and have been in phoenix for 11yrs now. The hood in phoenix is nothin compared the east coast cities. No matter who or what u are anyone can go anywhere in phoenix and not be scared . Its a very nice place
@@bighashgang1990 why would I go anywhere and say that? I couldn't image being so dumb to give a shit about a street. How simple minded would you have to be to not want to move anywhere else and live the shittiest life everyday on the same shit street. How isn't that retarded? It's the same as being a baby and not sharing your toys. Instead it's you can't walk on my street. So stupid
U don't know what's going on around u until u get involved in it (the best way I can explain it) When I was younger I thought nothing bad happens in Az. Now as I'm growing up I'm getting in to a little bit of trouble and seeing what's really going on around me. I've met people who have been in and out of jail/juvenile since they was 10. If ur from Az and u think shit don't happen here ur prob haven't done much yet in the streets
Theres nothing in the streets except homeless people and junkies. So no theres no gangs, thugs, or robbers or any of that bs. Who would wanna be in the streets anyway?
Yung Tragedy imma be 100% honest with you right now. Phoenix is split in half we got really nice areas and then drug infested old run down areas the more north you go the better. I know we have gun, drug, theft, and robbery issues for sure. As far as Gangs There down here I even beefed with some bloods in high school but niggas usually hustle for themselves no real reason to bang down here like that. Shit can get really bad down here tho I remember back when I was in school (only a year ago) there where 2 dudes fighting in the bathroom and like 12 people were watching and then out of no where they all pulled out straps...and I fucking dipped cuhz fuck that. Also the circle k shut down a couple months back cuhz in 1-2 months it got robbed and 2 cashiers got blasted in the face. Say what you want but we know what’s really poppin off down here. Like i ain’t trynna brag, I’m trying not to live here but don’t diss AZ just cuhz people move different down here, niggaz just do there dirt low key down here, but here’s a hint start lookin for shoes up on phone lines once you see them start knocking on some doors and you’ll find what your lookin for.
Born and raised in Phx,AZ was in a gang myself not proud of it but when younger it was just a way to survive but made smart moves got a college degree now got both street and book smarts always remember where I came from keeps me grounded
Man u guys need to chill do u realize that the block or set u bang doesn't even belong to u it's not worth a life for a dam street snap outta it guys ur better than this
Phoenix has gangs, but rarely any murders, its mostly robbers and drug dealers, nobody calls the cops here (Unless your in Scottsdale or some shit) There's actually alot more crime than you think, its just that people are really silent and quick with it. Not saying PHX is the hardest city in America, far from it. But sometimes shit does get heated. But places like Chicago and Compton are way crazier.
It doesn't matter where you're from or what you got the bottom line is we need to help each other and be kind to each other because we don't know that other person or their lifestyle. Arizona is a beautiful place.
I too am a product of the early 90s gang banging era. I grew up in the Avenues. Im from One Nine. I remember peopl used to find out I lived in south Phoenix and they would be astonished. It used to get a bad rap. Yes it was violent at times but it was home. I ran the streets since a youngin and me and my roll dawg used to go everywhere. Phoenix for the most part is like this.. As long as you come with respect you'll get respect. But if you trip its going to be on and popping. I had homies in the Evil Side, Wicked Side, and the Notorious Side and was always welcomed back. I've seen homies come and go. Proud of those who grew up, settled down, & doing the family thing. Some are still around and a lot have gone on to be with the good Lord. Some riding on that torcido train, going in and out and a few even who unfortunately ain't never going to, get out. Consequences of the game we played. *knock on wood* I've seen too much in these Phoenix streets. Been in many'a circles. Somethings I will never ever speak about, for as long as I live, but the things that I am able to talk about. Would capture your imagination and take you on the rollercoaster ride of your life. The Valley of the Sun, I'm proud to be from. Trust.
Born and raised in Phoenix. Lived all over the valley but my roots come from south Phoenix. 16st Southern. Sierra Vista, Bush, John R Davis, Boys n Girls Club, to west Phoenix Borman Jr. High then back to south Phoenix to graduate from south mtn high in 2000. Family & friends all over the valley. South Phoenix is changing. It’s being rebuilt and driving out a lot of minorities to other parts of the valley. Phoenix is a great place to live if your about being successful. If your lazy and rely on bullshit to get by, you will struggle. Facts. Positive Vibes & Stay Blessed 🙏🏾
Lady been cold I grew up rite there in that hood and ain't nobody slang outside on the corner everyone slangs from there house it's to hot to stand outside
Also, not much nightlife except small downtown areas, campus and Scottsdale. Arizona is best enjoyed by people who enjoy the outdoors, hiking, off-roading, exploring etc. Phoenix is just another big city, a place to live and make money. And yeah there is a lot of money to be made here.
Phoenix has the same problems any big city has. I grew up in the Sidney P Osborn housing projects. Ive been around the world while serving in the navy. This is the place i chose to plant my flag and buy my house, raise my kids. Phoenix stand up. Its not hard to make a difference here.
140 crips were caught in matthew henson and then it started quieting down. Mexican gangs slowed down the killings when the crips were caught. Original crips from Los Angeles at that time in the 80s were killing people black and mexicans. Mexicans fought back and chased the crips back into matthew Henson that is when cops raided getting 140 crips and locking them up and then knocking matthew Henson down and building condo style apartments and not allowing those black family's back in. Crips and their families were spread out to other projects or houses.
Born and raised in Phx, Az and shit ain’t rough where I live. There’s no gangs, no violence, nun of that bs just mf parties every or every other Saturday. It is just honestly a beautiful city despite the heat
Oh stop. You know there are places you won’t walk in Phoenix let alone move to. Best places are Eastside, Far west side Goodyear and North side. Tolleson isn’t considered Phoenix
I live in Phoenix. It's not hood at all. Yeah sure, there are "low income" neighborhoods, but it's no different than the poor neighborhoods in other states. The neighborhood that lady was in are made out of 80,000 to 100,000 dollar houses. These homes dont look the best, but you have to be at least middle class to own one of these houses, and old ones are getting renovated everyday. Most of Phoenix is white and Mexican. Barely any blacks. I have no idea why they're trying to make this area look more "hood" than it is.
No one owns anything on the soil of the United states Corporation. Not hating, but as long as u know how to separate your strawman (corp) from the human you, your good!
Your right in the neighborhood I'm living in there was some old nasty houses, but they ended up tearing them done and replaced them with some nice modern houses. They now cost 400-700k
Don’t mess with Phoenix. Perfect example of wolf in sheeps clothing. Gangs and witchcraft ain’t a good mix. Phoenix is real quiet until someone starts acting up. No one ever talks in Phoenix.
The Disciple 😁 that's funny cuz gangs and Witchcraft mix real well down there. I met real satanic and gangsta mfs out there. If u look around theres a tarot reader in every community.
The Disciple fuck phoenix az it ain't shit your fakeass mickey mouse wannabe gangs and fakeass hoods it's all fake fuck fakeass arizona all of the entire state alot of haters out here
I lived in Phoenix in 1983,1984 on Buckeye road before the freeway way finished. Was working at T&S furniture on Buckeye road right at the freeway entrance around that time it looked much like a shanty town with metal roof buildings and people hanging out drinking beer and very hot. I did not run into any black people that was business minded or musical. I sought after those types of people because music is in my blood.. If I had the money I would buy some houses and or apartments and really do a lot of music production, recording, mixing, and mastering with various artist in Phoenix, but people got to be business minded and real with their profession.I love the positive vibe from the artist, studio owners business people blacks in general, wish that it was happening when I lived there. Someone need to bring everyone and everything together that makes money doing music.
Phoenix like a hood in da suburbs. It ain't Chicago, Detroit, or Compton, but dat shit ain't sweet. Niggas hustling out here and thass ong. Niggas who say Phoenix completely soft ain't never step foot In da hood. We got hella crips banging out here. But I will admit we got a bad drug problem. But it is still a good place to live since the crime rate low but that's prolly cause it's hot as a bitch
Just moved here to Phoenix to network and built Our Black Business. The mind set is different here i see as of now. No unity but there's alot of opportunity here.... We have to realize there's enough out here for us all.... No need to be selfish we all can get and live good here. Just have to form our networking community to spend money with one another like other ethic groups do to enhance their People. We moved here to Build and Help those who are willing to help themselves...
Carlos Ramirez crazy you asked... It's a different work force out here here then back home Little Rock Ark. But there's a lot of work and need for skilled tradesman. Just been finding my way independently. Doors are opening now. Been here a year as of March getting my HogOn lol.
apeshit clothing thanks always love networking. I have a Welding & Hip-hop Sermior We are working on to educate our people on how to get a skills and mixing it with business. My logo is ready to get pressed up on some shirts here soon.
Detroit Rockin Reggie I feel you. Out there you can relax.. I'm from Saginaw.. in the D just gettin gas can be crazy. Phx don't hv spot like that. But all love for the 480. My sec hm
California license plates every where. Rent going up. Doug Ducey is no help, Arizona is being stripped of the true essence of what is use to be. Gonna have to move to Tucson because Phoenix is getting over crowded. Smh 🤦🏾♂️
The old Phx is really gone they knock down all the old varrios and the hoods that we had are really gone as well making people move to the west side which was mainly white neighborhoods even maryvale was all white but as our city grown everybody scattered through out the city which look like nice neighborhoods which makes Phx look like it has no hoods or varrios times has changed in Phx even our old neighborhoods are gone we used to be a more inner city but our city has grown and spread everybody out
I agree. I’m just saying that it doesn’t feel like a lot of big cities. It’s not all piled on top of itself. And it doesn’t really have actual dangerous areas.
Brian Embree Doesn’t have dangerous areas? LOL It definitely has its pockets, bozos like you just watch the news and don’t see the stuff that doesn’t get reported. Stick to your guitar and enjoy your coffee shops.
I'm from VA. My son was born in Phoenix in 96,I caught Greyhound out there,it took 4 days. My wife..who was my girlfriend at the time lived in "The Dupa Villa projects",aka the 'dupes'. The essays showed me love out there! DVP 👌19th & van Buren
That's love fam! I'm born and raised in Duppa Villa Projects, but I was in prison in '96! That's one thing about the Dupps, we look out for everyone living in the hood, because we are all subject to the same!
Alot of yall on here leaving comments are slow speaking on what's hood. There's a difference between hood and ghetto yall mixing the two up. I've been outside my state and it goes down everywhere. Yall watch to much movies, the hood comes in different forms smh but it's still hood
Glad to see this piece. Been in and out of the hiphop scene professionally recording since 93. The scene as of late seems to be oversarurated with mediocre artists as technology becomes cheaper and recording easier. Why are we not seeing more quality music given the number of artists compared to the 90s and early 2000's? I used to love and support the scene and now I cringe at how "local" it sounds because of the "melting pot" factor. There was a "southwest" sound but I think due to lack of leadership it may have been all but lost. Good luck and shots out to those of y'all still working and striving for a signature sound to differentiate our scene from the rest. #$topdahating #$tartcreating. I see you @freez
No offense but all the people on this video don't know anything about Phoenix hoods born in north Phoenix hood I claimed norte my bro claimed WS CRIP my sister chilled with the paisas and white boy crews talk to people that really know the city
@Mica Rubio i hear about GDs in Mesa. No latin kings or vice lords. Lots of people from Chicago in the phoenix. Most of them converted to crips or local gangs
I grew up in West Phoenix in the 60s and 70s. West Phoenix was somewhat rural back in the day and had a heavy Hispanic population. It was a strange area because it was big city with a touch of horse stables and farm land! We had some of the best Mexican food in that area that I ever had!
Maryville is the worse in Arizona but it’s not that bad for real I grew up in north philly (Kensington) and can assure you it’s way worse. I live in the square. 32nd n greenway it’s not bad but it’s not that nice either. Just a bunch of junkies( myself included) I pick up in maryville and sunny slope and those r prob the worse in Phoenix area
Lived in phoenix my whole life. Good areas and bad but It's a good city. It's growing for the better and picking up it's game. Everyone struggles, every state has run down old cities...but Phoenix is fine. I've seen worse in other states...more homeless, more poverty and more violence. So Visit phoenix and see the good side and how it's growing and looking good. Nothing trashy or ghetto about it. Just low income families trying to make a living...aint nothing wrong with that and people support each other and help each other and are open minded. Very diverse area,it's good.
PHX reminds me of the IE here in Cali, but the culture is like 10 yrs behind. Lived off 59th ave and camelback rd while going to school. Rocky Point was the spot during spring break, the locals there treated me like family...they drink bud light while the tourists drink Coronas LOL. Cruising Mill ave in Tempe or Central in Dwntwn was the easiest way to meet AZ’s finest ladies. Most of the girls I met there would hit me up with ‘’Are u from CALI’’ cuz our style (our clothes, cars, & slang) was their future. Anytime a DJ was spinning I had them put some CALI rap and would proudly wave my fingers in the air and never was told not to, that shit wouldn’t fly if it was the other way around. The only trouble I ever had there was when I came back to Cali for winter break and my pad got broken into, it was just a bunch of poor kids from the projects who stole only clothes. I couldn’t be mad
Back in early 2000s I was working at Circuit City at 75th & Thomas and we were loading someone's truck with a fridge and this dude got blasted right in the neck. Bled all out and died minutes later. Cops came and laughed it off...just another day at the office.
Man ppl be saying these spots ain’t bad they bad. I’m 14 and I live in AZ and the gangs ive ran into are vicious and I came from the south side in the trenches
Great video dawg ! Much respect to all the Varrios,Hoods and Pjs in South,West,North,East Phoenix! Born and raised in South Phoenix 35th Avenue Gangsters by Manzanita Speedway & Cash Community!
Snoops Queen your very funny you know that all of arizona is whack and fake you guys copy L.A. and other very big major cities nothing but mickey mouse wannabe hoods and wannabe projects jjaajjaaajaa this Disneyland you phoenix idiots are all fakers jjaaajaaajja
Pablo Montoya3 Boy please! You must be the super gangster huh?! Nobody is harder than you I forgot . Keep in mind there'd always someone bigger and badder than you! You speak immature I'm sire you live at home with mommy and daddy ! Real respect real and you have no respect which means you get no respect !! It's levas like you that talk and talk no action! Grow up and realize there's struggle all over in every Varrio . Raza Unite but you know nothing about unity! Only your stupid rap videos you try to imitate . Don't ever doubt the next person you don't know their story !
Garfield School area is where I grew up and that shit was THE HOOD lol Dudes carrying sawed offs and tech 9's down their pants, low riders with bullet holes, dope house every two blocks lmao
Naw az soft 😂 I been there 5 years and ain’t shit pop off, I left Chicago and moved to south phx and nun 😂 u can walk all night long and nun gon happen to u 💯 drugs is everywhere 💯
Man I’m born in raised in Philadelphia for 20 years and moved to Phoenix. If these ppl knew how crazy places like Philly is they would be happy they live there. It ain’t bad in Phoenix
Born an Raised West Side Phx Maryvale Area...Now living in Central Phx tryna make a better life for my son and I!! Az dont play tho..always be prepared, expect the unexpected!!
Mikie Jones 🙏🏽🙏🏽 They don't know the struggle I was born at Phoenix Memorial Hospital n raised on Buckeye Rd. Lived in every project's the Henson, 16th Ave,Coffelt Projects. So they don't know what we talking bout!💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
It is HOT out there like temperature wise, I'm from Glendale and it was not ghetto at all in the places these people speak of. If it is ghetto it is because the people made it that way. That sun is cooking your brains, get some A/C on that forehead. If yall thought more positive and stopped talking about,"its because were black" race aint got nothing to do with it, work ethic is what people are looking for.
You’re not from Glendale haha. So you lived in 52 projects, 61 projects, 63rd block that’s Glendale. You probably lived where arrowhead mall is at haha that’s not Glendale haha
Van Buran Ave. used to literally close down out near the airport in the evenings back in 1974. Pimps and Ho's , dancing in the street, weed, booze, and loud music. Like a big block party.
I live in Phoenix Az for 10years and I'm always growing beautiful place I'm from Detroit,Mich. And what some of these good people need to do is go visit back East for 2 to 5 years and I bet they'll be motivated to make Phoenix work for them..
I have been in Phoenix for a long time no matter what anyone says it’s hood I have also lived in Atlanta LA And San Diego, in other cities the black population are much higher which makes it seem more hood cuz there more Community’s organization and structure but Phx is the true definition of the Wild West there’s no structure no code no respect for Boundaries I have seen so so much dirt done smh just thinking about it still shocks me it’s truly gods country we’re the devil Lives
yup. A lot of connects get Robbed out here thinking shit sweet. Grimey is Grimey in all hoods. Anybody can get caught slipping. A lot of people moving to AZ so that community feel isn’t there in some places. Old neighborhoods nothing like the new ones. There’s pockets in the city I wouldn’t walk at night by myself. Easy to get marked
I don't want to sound racist, but some of you will say I am. Anyways, why is it almost every single time when it comes to the hood or the gang, has to be black folks? Like why can't it be another race? And it has to be black people
Phoenix is different than a lot of places. I was born here and moved to Vegas when I was 16. I've lived in South Bend Indiana and San Antonio in the past, I'm back in PHX now. A lot has changed, it's cleaned up a lot and gangbanging is kinda outta style. The thing is AZ is rough, the laws, the heat, everything trying to kill you, the plants, animals, everyone carries a gun. But, people here are hustlers straight up, I give credit to the heavy influence of Mexicans here, everyone here works 2 jobs, gotta small business, play sports and hike. Very ambitious City. The crime is low key compared to other cities, the whites and the cartels keep their shit more quiet, in other places I've lived in the gangs ran the streets loudly. The Cartels are quieter...
@@ramboeastwood1522 SB is ghetto, but cities out west are different. Tucson is much bigger than SB but it is super quiet. SB actually feels “busier”. People in Arizona like to keep to themselves for the most part, very different cultures and to be honest you might feel really out of place. I’d recommend Arizona to people who like being outdoors, like, a lot. Off-roading, shooting, hiking, just exploring the desert, if you’re not into those things heavily, there is a huge chance you will absolutely hate Arizona, especially if you don’t have a reliable car with AC, everything there is spread out and there isn’t much public transportation. I love AZ, and miss it, but it’s not for everyone.
@@paintup46 I hear you. I've been out west and yea it's just different. Their culture, their hoods is all just different. I've stayed in Washington, Oregon, Texas a little bit of Cali. My pops used to live in Tucson. I'm aware of the differences. I don't think western hoods are worse than hoods back east tho, they are for sure different, almost to the point you can't really compare. But eastern hoods, like SB, typically have higher violent crime rates and higher murder rates. The thing about western hoods I hate is all the homeless junkies. That seems to be the trend in western hoods. Love the outdoors btw. Hiking, camping, fishing, all that
@@ramboeastwood1522 Yea you pretty much nailed it. A lot of the violence in AZ is cartel related stuff and drug related violence. Mostly low key stuff. I live in SW Michigan at the moment, not too far from South Bend, I do feel safer out here though. The people are not as aggressive as people out west, people here like to be around other people it seems like.
@@paintup46 I'd have to disagree with ya there. I think people around the great lakes are aggressive and just in general more assholes with shitty smug attitudes. I'm a homeboy and rep my hometown but I'll never live back in that area. If you lived in the hood out there you wouldn't feel so comfortable or safe. but yea outside of the hoods and the winters, the midwest can be nice. But I guess that goes for any place. Michigan has hella ghetto cities but also alot of nice outdoors
They made this as a music promotion not about gangs!!!they used "gangs" to promote themselves 😆😆😆 ask the people who actually run ARIZONA not just south Phoenix!! The mexicans run AZ!! LA, Chitown And new york ,Tx
❤💔❤💔❤💔💞The brother in the T shirt and the other with dreadlocks realy touch on some real point. Music and sports is only 5% of economic and many of us as black people are missing out on the other 95% of the economic prosperity. They wasn't just talkin about Phoenix Arizona they were talking about being more diverse and having realistic goals so we as black can accumulate wealth for ourselves and for our future generation. I would like this! We need to stop looking behind use and start looking in front of us as black Nation.
South of I - 10 and the city of Guadalupe are not great areas, but the vast majority of the Phoenix area is nice. Regardless of who you are you can live almost anywhere you want in this town, with the only exception being age restricted communities. That's age, not race.
can't speak for 2day, but late 80's to early/mid 90's shit was pretty wild. north side has always been safe but south, east & west sides were pretty wild.
This is facts I was born and raised in Phoenix my brother got killed in the 80s, and I was born in South phx it's really alot of love out there.its just what you want to be and what you want to. What I got out of this is if you hustling in the streets hustle for a reason let's get our own stores get our own apartment complex make something of ourselves. They done came out here and took over. It's sad but we as us black people need to get together and do this shit and the ones that don't want to get in then oh well. And you can be a felon in Phoenix Arizona and still get a job that's the sad part we just need to get up and do it real talk and show ourselves that it can be done we can live just like they living on the other side of town.its just getting together to do it. Because without black people they will have nothing
I’m from South Phoenix Brown Pride Chicanos 17th ave , shits calmed down since the 90’s but don’t test nuts you will get left where they lay you at. I’m sure that goes for every hood n barrio in the us
I like this clip much respect... only thing yall forgot bout us in central Phx..from VanBuren to Buckeye, Central to 19th Ave... too much history even to the East side much respect...Marcos to Matthew Hensons to Coltfelts, even DupaVillas... too much history
I think in the next 10 years Phoenix is going to blow up. I am happy and a little worried because I am not sure how the city will handle it. The downtown scene has grown substantially in the last five years.
Born raised and the black westside didnt happn till around the late 90's the OG true spot was the southside. Grew up on 19th ave and Darrell lol true true southside
