*PATRONS* of this channel get access to an _even longer_ version of this video, featuring more of Martinů's _Fantasia._ Those kind folks also help subsidize the long time it takes to make these videos, and appreciate all of your support. And if you're a true theremin lover, stay tuned for an in-depth tour of an exceedingly rare model in my next video ...

And non-patrons still get an hours worth of content. You put so much effort into your videos!! You should do more dives into Jazz, Miles Davis would be amazing!

Particularly nice job bringing out the moral highlights of this story. I never cared for the free oscillation of this device but as a result of this video I developed respect for the instrument and especially for the performers that can control its hypersensitive pitch response. Once again I am reminded that a true artist master can create a sublime experience where none of its kind was thought possible. This was a memorable presentation.

WOOOOO SCHILLINGER MENTIONED BY NAME WOOOOO WE STAN WE STAN WE STAN 😩💖💅 On a serious note, a video exploring Schillinger would be really cool. A lot of the stuff about him on RU-vid is mostly technical and focused on his actual theory (most of it being as unclear and confusing as the original work) with very little focus on him as a person in history. Prokofiev called him the next Beethoven, and Einstein loved him, so why was he forgotten, and how did he get it all so wrong? His theories are too fascinating and too wrong to pass up on I think. Ya know?

After watching this, I'd say the history of Lev Theremin is actually far wilder than that of the instrument that bears his name. Also, running wild with all the unique swooshes and sound effects the instrument can make still strikes me as far more appropriate and interesting than trying to pull off Romantic repertoire with it. Anywho, fascinating video!

I have the Moog Theremini, which can quantise pitches. Still find it nearly impossible to play. Kudos to anyone who masters this instrument :)

I think the only theremin serious music I could enjoy would be that which didn't make me feel like I was watching a 1950s silent movie. But if it made me feel like the movie was really great, then I could enjoy it.

The documentary from the 1990s is great, too, but the clip from “The Mickey Mouse Club” that’s used in there is not included on any home-video release. If streaming services have this wonderful and very funny movie, they probably used the cut DVD as the source material. Tape it any way you can if it’s actually aired on regular TV again! Peace.

I'm 14 minutes into the video, watching with the automatic subtitles on, and it's impressive how everytime the name "Termen" is mentioned the subtitles get it wrong in a whole different way than before hahaha

Excellent video. Because I’m a horribly jaded person, I’d like to leave a tiny criticism. Maybe adjust where your script is located. Your darting eyes made it seem like there was an approaching bobcat situated behind the camera. Thanks for the video, very informative and incredibly interesting

I don't have a teleprompter because I can't afford one. I lug an external computer monitor onto a folding chair that I put on top of a folding table every time I want to film a video. When I _didn't,_ I'd get comments from annoyed viewers about my jump cuts. :/ Feels like a no-win situation.
