i agree with you. I've used non-insulated pads in the winter many times, often times with a foam pad underneath. Works just fine! Good video!

Nice informative review! Just found your channel and subbed based on this good review and thumbs up for your local. Looking forward to checking out more of your content. I grew up in Wy and used to live in Pine Haven WY near Keyhole Reservoir up until my college years. Spent many years stomping around the Big Horns and Wind Rivers and miss living in WY now that I'm in the mid west. Still have good friends in Casper and try to make it out their at least once a year for now until I can hopefully move back within the next 5 years. 🤞

i used an xlite for years before moving to a hammock, it's really is not that noisy. A little bit as you get on and off it, but not when you are sleeping and moving around a little. So I don't see anyone moving to the uberlite because of noise. I do see people taking advantage of how lite it is, very impressive pad. Will be interesting to see the reviews over time as to how well it holds out.

The Uberlite is a great pad--when it holds air. It's prone to leak, and when it does, you are going to be miserable. My Uberlite gave out on me on the first night of a 5-day backpack trip in the Pecos Mountains. I was cold and miserable. Ther-a-Rest "customer service" essentially blamed me--must have been something I did. Thankfully REI gave me a full refund.

So, you can only use the Uberlite in winter if you put an insulating pad under it.. So your total weight is likely more than it would be if you just brought a pad with a higher R-Value.. Excluding the lower noise, what's the point?

Erik Normark uses his blowup pad on ground cloth, then ZLite pad and then a closed cell pad, (like a light yoga pad) on top of that...then his sleeping bag. Usually all on top of snow in the Swedish wilderness! Makes sense to steer clear of the cold air in a blowup mattress! Even a XTherm! Now...I’m searching for the large, wide yoga type pad....that’s lightweight! Any suggestions out there??

I bought one of these last week and went out 5 days ago with my wife on a 3 day hike. I was delighted with the size/weight . My wife slept on it the first night and I wanted to scream when I heard it. The night was still and I am sure that a couple of other hikers about 150 yds away could easily hear it also. My wife is deaf at night without her hearing aids on so she could not hear it. I used it the second night and it was comfortable enough but I am thinking of getting something else. You can only hear the offending sound when you lay on it and move around. It does not crinkle but sounds almost like a roaring sound

Any issues two years later? Has it been holding up long term?

I am sorry I've watched the entire video & thought about the information but I don't understand the reasoning behind favoring the UberLite + Z Lite combo over the use of an XTherm or XLite depending on the season (winter or spring & fall). Other than noise reduction there seems to be no advantage since the combo increases both the total weight & bulk as well as lowering the overall R-Value of the sleeping pad system when compared to the XTherm or XLite. What I am missing? Thank you. I always enjoy your videos them challenge me to think.

After reading this review last winter, I purchased and attempted to use the Uberlite on my AT thru-hike (3rd trek of full AT). Results were not pretty .. 1) after about 700 miles, the welded seam around the valve blew out and the pad went flat. Wasn't fixable using a patch and Therm-a-Rest agreed to send a replacement to my home but it would take a week or two (ugh). My wife expressed me an older pad and I continued hiking. About 3 weeks later, I finally found time to call them again since I'd not received notice of shipment and they said, oh, we're out of stock for replacements, it will probably be another 4-6 weeks before we can replace your pad. Gee - thanks. Since I'd bought the pad at REI, I called them and they expressed me a replacement and let my wife drop the dead pad at the store back home. Points for REI, complete loss of confidence in Therm-a-Rest. 2) after roughly another 700 miles, the internal (horizontal) welded seams inside the pad broke free and the pad suffered an aneurysm, looking like a snake that had swallowed a largish animal whole. It held air but I couldn't sleep on it with the bulge. Remembering previous history, I didn't even call Therm-a-Rest, just shipped the pad back to REI for store credit. Wonderful outfitter in Lexington, VA, (Walkabout Outfitter) not only had an Xlite in stock for me to purchase but brought it about 16 miles to a road crossing and then shuttled me to nearby town for mail pickup and shopping. Awesome. The Xlite has worked well, no further pad failures. Observation 1) The fabric on the Uberlite seems reasonably tough - I didn't manage to puncture it. The process / quality control / weld technology for that pad/fabric isn't acceptable. Two failures in 1400 miles is two too many. Not having any customer service / product replacement availability for a thru hiker (or, really for anyone) is also unacceptable. Observation 2) When I look around now, I see that lots of retailers no longer carry any Therm-a-Rest products, or just carry the Uberlite. (Can't find the Xtherm or the Xlite at REI, etc.) Is this plus the customer service failures indicative of some broader issue with Therm-a-Rest - maybe others are having quality issues - maybe they won't be around to produce bad product much longer? Anyone have any scoop on the brand issues / changes?

Sadly my uberlite 2020 version was leaking air out of the box, very disappointing at almost 300 cad. I’ll exchange it and give it an other try since it’s the lightest on the market. The new valve is better but still so so compare to the Nemo valve and pump sack of the Nemo. The pump sack of the Thermarest is loose on the valve on both model that I have xtherm and Uber light and the pump sacks doesn’t close so well, again compare to the Nemo tensor (which is heavier, but more confortable).

Has it held up well?

would taking one of the emergency silver rescue blankets , weigh nothing, help to increase the r value for cold nights? For instance laying it on the ground, or on top of the air mattress? I know it would be noisy on a cold night, but if it works it is no weight increase, and better than being really cold.

Who makes the down pullover?

Wonder how this compares to the S2S Etherlight XT. Love mine!

Definitely some skill involved - like learning to not move during the night. I keep rolling off - clearly I'm a newbie.

Does it not come with a pumpsack? And what adapter did you use for the Exped bag?

you mention that it takes a lot of know-howl to get the most out of a sleep system. is there a benefit of using the z-rest with the reflective side facing down? thanks!

The ccf is 14 oz before cutting. The Uber lite is 8 oz. that’s substantially heavier than xtherm. What would the benefit then be aside from a quieter pad?

Interesting pad! I've gathered a collection of these from Therm-a-Rest and recently settled on the Women's XLite with an R3.9. It's interesting the Women's one, for the same weight, is only slightly shorter, less expensive, and has better R value than the XLite. For winter, I carry a ZLite anyway in case I spring a leak. I may try this one and see how it does. I'd love to save the 3.5 oz and some space if i could. I have an XTherm that my wife uses (she sleeps cold) and it's overkill for me. Great review! Got a link to that pump sack? I'm kinda digging it. :)

I still dont understand the point of using a tarp when you can use a lightweight tent like the msr hubba which is probably lighter ,warmer , drier ,easier to put up , the z mat is to bulky so I would incorporate everything into one by buying the x therm or x light

Add a layer of cardboard ...for added warmth doesn't cost anything cardboard can be ultra light...

I have a large rectangular S2S comfort light and it’s amazing but just shy of 2 lbs. I’m looking hard at a large Uber. My concern is I bring my 95lb dog that may step on my pad sometimes. Should I adobos this pad or go with something else?

I really don't understand why you spent 50% of the video speaking about something else than it is in the name of the video. If you name it "My gear" or what so ever, it would be ok and I probably didn't eve start watching it, because I was searching videos FOCUSED on the spoken pad. But I was interested ONLY to the sleeping pad evethough it can be interesteing to watch your gear...

The best part of this video is the slurping sounds of you indulging yourself with a hot drink. Maybe you can make a whole video of you making eating and drinking sounds... maybe a couple of farts and belches as well.

Also the whole beginning of the video is not needed. Just stick with 2 simple things. Your thought on the product and its stats. No need for an ancestral study on the product.
