In this video I review the Thermacell Backpacker gen 2.0 mosquito Repellant. I'm a big fan of Thermacell products and the Backpacker's Thermacell is no different. I provide a complete thermacell review and thermacell backpacker instructions for set up and lighting. This is a great asset to backpackers in buggy seasons who are looking to take control over bugs when at camp!

I was looking at this, headed on youtube for reviews and found yours. You're always thorough. I don't need to look further.will be great for my trip to Kilarney and maybe Algonquin. :) thanks.

This for canoe trips because you have the luxury of extra space! I bring it on my csnoe excursions regularly.

For kilarney no, mostly hiking and sitting. For Alginquin yes. I try to keep my pack under 35lbs either way though, but we are anticipating bad bugs for August. So this seems cool.

Thermacell makes great stuff. Sometimes on hot humid backpacking trips I've wished I had one of these. I hate mosquitoes and I hate when moths fly at your headlamp. 4oz is just a little extra weight for some added comfort and relief from damned bugs.

Yeah the bugs flying at your face is awful!

This is a neat little thing. I’ve seen this model in the stores in passing and have been curious about it. I wondered if it would work but looks like you got it to light on the very first try. My old original theramacell can take a few clicks to get engaged. Nice not to have to carry around the little butane cateridges.

Yeah I bought it on a clearance sale and am pretty happy with it.

I’m not really stationary enough to warrant bring this in the backcountry but for car camping or messing around the shed at home it would be nice to pop in on the fuel can and peace out.

This was one reason I never bought one. Got it on a closeout sale and use if mainly for car camping but also would use this for backpacking in July/August in Illinois.

You can use that device on a 1 pound propane canister with an adapter.

These require an iso/butane blend. They won't work with 100% propane, if that's what you're referring to.

@@OMGWTFLOLSMH I disagree, I do it all the time.

I’m using propane with adapter. It works fine but seems to be blazing through the pads. I wonder if the isobutane mix would allow the pads to last longer since the adapters can be faulty in terms of regulation and/or the boiling temp is lower. Anyone experience with both?

To be fair, it's not made for walking around, so your first drawback isn't really a drawback. You can buy one for walking around.
@LoneCrowAdventures
@LoneCrowAdventures 2 года назад
Yeah none of them really work well when you're on the move because they rely on concentrating the air with scent to be effective which doesn't happen if you're moving.

Meh, there are way too many poor reviews of this product on Amazon and Cabela's. They either burn too hot and use up the pad in about an hour or they won't stay lit or won't light at all. This particular product needs some refinement and quality control. Maybe Gen 3 will be the ticket. I like the idea of being able to use a 16 oz canister for hundreds of hours, but I don't want to have to buy a new unit every year and go through hundreds of expensive consumable pads. Jesus, just give me something that works reliably and consistently, year after year, and I'll gladly pay for it.

Yeah since filming this I've fallen into disuse of the backpacking device.
