This physics video tutorial explains the concept of the first law of thermodynamics. It shows you how to solve problems associated with PV diagrams, internal energy, heat, and work. It addition, it provides plenty of examples and practice problems associated with isothermal, isochoric or isovolumetric, isobaric, and adiabatic processes.

Reading the comments under these videos shows me that this guy has genuinely changed peoples lives. With his videos, people have gotten that lightbulb above their head for a certain topic that allowed them to pass an exam that got them into the school they wanted and made their dream come true. @Bbbbbbbbbbhhhhhhh 7 месяцев назад
How did it go?
@Eolopolo
@Eolopolo 7 месяцев назад
@@Bbbbbbbbbbhhhhhhh Basically, stick to your studies and a regular schedule, you'll be fine. I won't sugar coat it, unless you're massively passionate about the engineering subject you're going into, then you're not going to get the typical "best years of your life" student experience. While I enjoy the aerospace sector 100%, boiling it down to numbers gets old very fast. On the surface, it's very interesting, but when it gets to the numbers, you're nearly guaranteed to find at least 50%+ of it a pain in the arse. Most engineers end up in a very specific section of their industry, and universities can't just show you that very specific part you may end up doing. So instead you'll of course cover a wide array of topics and you'll find a good amount of it a ballache. You'll be tired, a lot. There'll be weekends where you don't get to rest because of 3 assignments, maybe week after week. Because of the tiredness, you'll probably also fall behind on lectures by a week or two sometimes. And because of that, you won't be living some ideal student life you may have been told is possible. BUT, it remains Aerospace. At the end of the day, I am studying in detail some of the coolest shit on the planet. And for the 50% boring shit you'll end up doing, there'll be a good 50% where you think, damn, this is actually kinda cool. And after it's all said and done, once your get your degree, you'll end up reaping the profits of your hard work and sacrificed social life. Could I have picked something easier? Without a doubt. It would've been a hell of a lot less stress (a HELL of a lot less). But at least this way, 10, 20, 50 years down the line, I won't be thinking "what if I actually went as ambitious as Aerospace engineering".

We really appreciate this 3hr long video,Sir. 👍👍 At 3:00:24 there is a slight mistake, it should be P_o by P_f instead of P_f by P_o.

This video is excellent. Thank you. When explaining the Isothermal Process at 2:59:50 you state that W=nRTln[Vf/Vo) and W=nRTln[Pf/Po] is that a mistake? W=nRTln[Po/Pf]

In isothermal processes, W= nRTln(Vo/Vf) or W= -nRTln(Vf/Vo).

As a SHS students, this matery is so heavy for me personally cause it combains main course of chemistry and math. But, I finally understand it easy with your explanation Sir. Thank you so much for making this. Just be honest, this is very helpfull for students like us rather than remember the formulas only from the article outside.

thanks for the video sir. but i have a question. when should we use Q=nCvT and Q=nCpT because the values the formula of Cp is different from Cv and they both affects the answer too. that's my problem. Thanks

You have used old equation of internal energy i.e dE=q-w but as per IUPAC the new equation has been changed i.e. dE=q+w. Due to this the sign convention of work will change i.e. work done BY the system is taken as NEGATIVE and ON the system is POSITIVE.#Thank you😊

You would be correct if this was chemistry. However, in physics we take the POV of the surroundings which means dE=q-w. Confusing I know, but correct he is. In physics W="+" when work is done by the system. In chemistry it is the opposite because the POV is reverse.

Thank you so, so very much for this helpful video and for the easy, clear explanation! I came in frightened of Thermodynamics and I'm now a lot more confident in my ability to solve its problems. I also have a whole chart of equations which will really help for solving in the future. May God bless you.~

May I ask. Why do you use the universal gas constant (8.3145j/kg-k) for R in computing Cp and Cv instead of using the actual gas constants of the elements?
@Abi4u
@Abi4u 5 лет назад
I am wondering about the same, universal gas constant is being used throughout the video instead of specific gas constant.

on the problem around 1:14.06 it should be [5/2 R ] because it is at constant pressure, at constant volume it would be [3/2 R] why is 3/2 R or is it a mistake?
@Samuelllllllllll
@Samuelllllllllll 6 лет назад
For a monoatomic gas, [5/2 R] is the Cp, while [3/2 R] is the Cv. Cp is used in the equation Q = n Cp dT where Q (heat transfer) is being calculated. However in this case, *dU* (change in internal energy) is being calculated, where dU = n *Cv* dT is used, so [3/2 R] is correct.
