Formed Solutions is your single source for dimensionally accurate thermoforming, including vacuum forming, pressure forming and compression molding in Holland, Michigan.
Is it possible to build your own thermopress? I want to use a mold to make a chair out of PET felt. The plastic needs to melt a bit to take on the shape of my mold so vacuum forming won't work. There are lots of home made vacuum formers so, I am hoping that I can make my own thermopress. Thanks for any guidance you can send my way! -Susan
It not clear to me the difference between vacuum and pressure forming. I understand one uses a vacuum and via the video it appears the other blows air into the mold but why would you use one method over the other? Does pressure forming allow for more detail, deeper draws, use of thicker materials?
This video isn’t very well explained as it doesn’t show the suction or movement of the airflow which is an important step in each of these 3 processes (otherwise you’d just trap air and get bubbles everywhere). Also I believe compression thermoforming uses a combination of pressure+vacuum forming so this may be overly simplified and misleading.
