So glad that you've been able to find some solace in Tad Williams' works and that it has helped you escape a little from your current predicament. Best wishes to you - the fantasy and book tube community is sending lots of love your way.
Mr Brian, I send you all the positive energy and blessings, I always watch your videos, they are great and because of you buy TAD WILLIAMS longings and sorrows, and remember that booktube and its followers need you, a lot of strength and many enditions, greetings from Colombia.
Dear Brian, I'm so happy you are alive! I'm mostly a silent watcher, but I told myself, next video I will leave a comment. Love your channel, your videos, and currently also reading "The forgetting moon" and loving it. Please be well and write more epic books! Greetings from Germany. 🥰🤗
Book 1 was an absolute treat! Just finished Book 2 and looking forward to read the epic conclusion! Youre the reason I regained my love of reading, get well soon!❤
Nothing alters my TBR more than the title for this video. I’ve had these books on my shelf for years. Now I gotta read these and soon. Get well Mr Durfee!!!!
MST is like a comfort blanket for me. Any time things are bad I reach for either the paperback or the audiobook. Similarly to you, there is something about the opening lines that calm me... "On Tthis day of days"... There are few books that do this. Whether it's Simon or Pug. Sometimes these characters and books can be lke old friends and give you comfort. Feel better soon and we'll see you for The Navigator's Children...
I wish you a full and speedy recovery Brian, your recent video on the Shannara series by Terry Brook inspired me to reread Sword of Shannara for the first time in nearly 30 years and I am loving it! So thank you and Tad Williams is also a favourite of mine and I’m glad he helped restore that zest to read again. Godspeed and get well eh.
Brian, I know it has been a while since you posted this, but I wanted to tell you that you are rarely out of my thoughts and I am praying you and your loved ones are given strength and encouragement to the degree that you have given strength and encouragement to so many through you channel. I am sorry you are unable to read but recognize that hospitals are rarely conducive to anything besides whatever the hell is happening then and there...lol..wierdos spending time saving lives, changing bedpans and having crazy rendevezous in those way to cramped linen closest :)! Anyways, maybe...only if you can seek headphones or a decent pair of laptop speakers, you can enjoy some of your Audible listens. I know that you hate ebooks (me too) but you can totally hit play on those audio books and when you zone back into the story a few seconds to sync up the brain with the ears and you can totally pretend like you have exclusively tuned into the 96 hour 1x version of War and Peace and if anyone gets too probing with their questions...talk slower and more sarcastically and I bet they back right the hell off! Thinking of you, wishing you smiles, health and healing! Go slow just keep going...we'll all be here when your better able to deal with your frenzied fan base. --CDC // Texas // 7/3/2024 @ 3:50AM CST
I’m glad you haven’t lost humor in these past few videos. Dry humor is the best in my opinion. I’m still here watching and wish you a speedy recovery, much love!
The power of a good story should never be underestimated. Glad to see that you're still doing what you love. Hope it keeps you going and healing. Hang in there, Brian.
I hope more than anything you get better and can keep spreading your positivity and love of books to us all. I am 28 6ft 165 perfectly healthy and have started having issues with my heart. Dont have any answers yet really but after this experience i fully plan to prioritize my health in a major way. Heres to you and health and recovery 🎉
Brian, I don't know how ANYONE could go through what you have without experiencing some depression. All in all, I'd say you're handling things pretty well. Here's to hoping you can be back in your own home very soon.
I just found The Dragonbone Chair in a thrift store and my husband listened to the audiobooks and said it's like Game of Thrones, but better and has an ending! So I purchased the sequels on ebay and I want to read them as soon as I get done with Outlander.
When I see a new video by you, I can't click it fast enough! Glad you recaptured your love of reading, I realized just how much I miss hearing you talk about books. Keep focusing on your health, we appreciate you whether you are reading or not, brother!
Hope you get better! I was wondering if you have read any more of the Shardlake series? I read Dissolution because of you and some of the other books are even better
Just finished the series for the first time tonight. It really is something incredible. I think it would have festered on my TBR for years without your encouragement. Thank you, Brian. Appreciate it and I hope you’re feeling better!
Glad to see you looking good and on the road to a recovery. I understand how you felt about reading, same when I have been ill. A wonderful series, that I just reread last year. Prayers to you, and we all look forward to you being back in the saddle reviewing.
Stories, words, literature truly are healing. There is a reason they are such a key part of human culture. They keep us going, give purpose to our lives. Tad is one of the very best. I am so happy his work is helping you through this tough time - and you’ll be perfectly prepared for The Nagivator’s Children later this year (surely you can procure an ARC?)
Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is excellent and The Last King of Osten Ard almost equally so. Such beautiful writing, immersive world, memorable characters and story. Wishing you healing and peace.
I'm a big fan Mr Durfee and I sure hope you make a speedy recovery. The worst is behind you and now just focus on getting better and soon you will be back making great content on your channel. Gods speed sir, all my very best wishes.
I had The Dragonbone Chair in paperback at one point but didn't get around to reading it before getting rid of it (downsizing my collection again). I have a tendency to go to bookstores for fun but have a hard time getting into books, so I can relate to your inability to get into them for a while. (Even if I try to leave without buying a book most of the time, I still end up with a lot more books than I actually read.) One time I wanted to try to get back into reading so I went back to one of my old favorites: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and that worked. I'm glad you were able to get back into reading, and I should really give this book / series a try.
Brian you have discovered what many of us fantasy readers have discovered when we have to deal with tough mental challenges… fantasy novels can be the cure for getting us through it intact!! For me the Song of Ice & Fire & a Witcher podcast got me through!! I only read Memory, Sorrow & Thorn on your recommend and actually the last hospital stay I had with my son I read Feist’s The Magician, another Durfee recommend!!!
As Winston Churchill once said: "If you're going through hell - keep going" - glad to see you further recovering. I have read Memory Sorrow and Thorn a long time ago but I don't remember much - I plan to do a re-read, as it is so highly recommended by you in a number of your videos... All the best from Germany 😊👍
It is wonderful, but you have to commit to the first 300 - 400 pages. This series begins V E R Y slowly! But once it gets going, it's hard to tear yourself away! Just keep in mind that this is a dated book. The temp is decidedly different from our modern-day fantasy.
I'm currently reading an excellent series called The Five Warrior Angels, but after I finish reading those I'll definitely pick up these books. They sound incredible.
Glad you are healing! Just started rereading Stone of Farewell to prepare for the big conclusion to the second Arc of the series in November. I slightly prefer the second series because I love the Norn point of views and some of the newer characters but everything Tad writes is awesome. Still need to get around to reading War of the Flowers…
I don't know why but every time I see your face I think of the prison story you told on a podcast about a prisoner calling you Fat Faced blah blah blah. And you was like "😲You think I have a fat face?" 😂😂😂😂
I don’t think anyone could blame you for not wanting to read during this period. But still, if you had to read someone while laid up, you can’t do better than Tad Williams
Your presence makes a difference. Keep on keeping on… like we used to say in the Sixties. Being a writer, you may get a boost from Tolkien’s short story “Leaf by Niggle”.
