Here's a hack I wanna share (for artists): When I can't seem to read the bible, listening to the bible while drawing praise art (art for God) really encourages me to spend quality time with the Lord. I also listen to sermons too or worship music.

My personal hack for prayer: I found my praying is more natural and organic if I go for a walk when I pray. I just can’t focus on it sitting still.

Mason, God bless you for these videos. As a 42yo woman with ADHD, I oftentimes find myself comparing myself to Christian influencers and their perfect 2- hour quiet time and then I get discouraged. They're having these deep moments with the Lord, and I'm over here organizing my Bible highlighters halfway through mapping one verse. I've found the tip to write my prayers very helpful. I write prayers in one color and praises in another, so I can go back and see how God has answered my prayers. I also have to break Bible study into segments I work on a few times throughout the day.
@dannirabbit
@dannirabbit 6 месяцев назад
That's how I am, too. I start multitasking while reading the Bible, I grab a cup of tea, then I forget I need my highlighters, and then I need to grab a notebook and maybe a blank sheet of paper. I'm all over the place with my adhd sometimes. 😅😅😅 so don't feel bad about it . ❤

I would add (haha!) for Christians with ADD to make sure to stick to whatever practice will truly ground you and make you stick with it. Remember that ADHD is all about playing to your interests. Don't go with obligatory thinking that says you have to do things a certain way. YOU know what will hold your attention in your private times with God and I encourage you to do that same thing over and over again if that's what's needed. Example: like many people with ADHD, I am drawn to watch the same movies and TV shows over and over. There is something about the predictability that is highly comforting in such a chaotic world. I rarely look for new content unless it's in a field that I am already interested in. Likewise, in worship, there are some songs and albums I NEVER get tired of! If you have specific books of scripture that are your "bottom line" scriptures, use those, too!

As a Christian with ADHD, what helps me is Catholic-style prayer, which allows me to stay focused while kneeling rather than lying down with my eyes closed.
@yosef_daniel
@yosef_daniel 4 месяца назад
I have felt drawn to Catholicism my whole life because I have intuitively felt that the rituals would ground me during prayer and devotion. The Catholic mass being the same service every single time seems good for me, as well as holding a rosary during prayer. However, the strength of Catholicism as a ritual-based faith is also its weakness in my case because it (for me) quenches the joy of the Holy Spirit. That being said, I am still interested in incorporating aspects of historic Christian practice that would work for me!

This is such a fantastic video. I think every Christian struggles with prayer, even those who have been Christians for decades. For the ADHD Christian however we all know that it can be so hard to concentrate on what we're saying. If I keep my eyes closed I start falling asleep because I can't have coffee or tea or anything caffeinated at the moment (health condition/on a strict diet) If I keep my eyes open I can get easily distracted so I sit by the window every morning and look out at God's beautiful creation and it causes me to start meditating on His goodness and all the wonderful things He has made, it's like a stepping stone that leads from one thing to the next. I try to keep in mind the Lord's prayer and use it as a template so thankfulness leads to praise, leads to God's holiness and wanting His name to be seen as holy in our hearts and minds and therefore throughout the earth, leads to asking God that His will be done in our lives and our nation etc, leads to asking the Lord to undertake for the needs we have as individuals and as a church, the sick etc, prayer for the salvation of our loved ones, neighbours, friends etc, leads to praying that persecutors of God's people be saved and our suffering brothers and sisters be delivered from imprisonment, slave labour, those fleeing their homes etc. (Barnabas Fund is an excellent source to find out more how to support them in prayer). This leads to asking the Lord for forgiveness of our many sins and enabling us to forgive those who've wronged us etc leading to asking the Lord to deliver us from falling into temptation and from evil, leading to glorifying Him and acknowledging Him as Sovereign over all. The above is an ideal prayer but of course there are many days where I get tongue tied and can't always think clearly to pray all that I would ideally like to think to pray and God's grace is sufficient. He reminds us and guides us in prayer. There may even be days when we feel like we've got nothing... Nothing is happening, nothing's coming out, we even groan inwardly, Romans 8:26 (Take heart) we may feel oppressed. We may even be overcome with sorrow and weep. These are the realities of the Christian life. A sound Christian once prayed "Lord, I am oppressed. Undertake for me. He knows the way that I/we take and when He has tested me/us I/we shall come forth as gold. Job 23:10.

I just posted the very same thing under Cultivating a Prayer Life with ADHD (ADHD Christianity channel) in hope I can be of some help here :) 1. I try to make a routine of reading Bible when I take my suplements in the morning - it helps me bind two activities together (I rarely forget to take my vitamins so maybe I won't forget to feed my soul at the same time). So, I keep a book with today's Gospel in the kitchen where my pills are. Alternatively, I take the same book with me when I walk my child to a kindergarten and returning, I enter my Church (so happy to have it so near me) and read there. Sometimes, I manage to come in time for Blessing at the end of the morning mass and then I feel very grateful and empowered for the day :) 2. I pray while walking somewhere, to work or wherever. This is my concious decision not to put my headphones on but to spend my time with God instead. 3. I pray when my littlest is starting to doze off. I kneel or sit next to him which helps him falling asleep and when his eyes loose their focus I know he want distract me any more and I start my prayer. And I'm very proud of this as it could have become my routine as I'm doing it everyday. Also, I memorised it's my time for praying so when we have some little change in routine, like he falls asleep in a car and we move him to bed, I stay there nonetheless and pray all the same. 4. Twice, I went for a few days retreat for spiritual exercises (Ignatian spirituality) which are chrisian meditations throughout days spent in silence. I did that not knowing I've ADHD yet and obviously, where distracted a lot but during the last day we shared our testimonies with other participants and you know? Everyone gets distracted because it's hard not to when you don't talk, don't listen to any music, don't read books (except for Bible of course) and still, you can benefit a lot from such time. I highly recommend that and wish for my kids to grow a bit so that I can repeat the exercises.

OH YES YES YES!! PRAYING WITH MY EYES!!!!! WOW!!! Since 2019, I started this thing where I write out my prayers to God ('Journalling' if you will) and it's helped me develop my walk with God so so much. Now, I get 'distracted' during school thinking about God and jotting down my little revelations on post its in the middle of lessons. God is so good!! He turns my ADHD into something so special and powerful!! I still have my moments of deep struggles and suffering, but it's so good to know that God brings the best in every situation!! EDIT: I typed that down the moment I heard it and now hearing the rest of your words. YES YES YES. Staring into one spot or writing into notebook. AND Yes it makes me think deeply about the things i'm praying for/meditating on. And keeps me focused on my one train of thought. AND THE THROWBACK MOMENT is SO useful!!! all in all i think it's rlly cool that the same Holy Spirit has taught us the same strategies, and I can't wait to try the listening to sermons idea again (i've sort of stopped listening to sermons outside church for a while now :p) and it's so so encouraging to see how it is to have ADHD, yet have some practical tips to pursue God wholeheartedly even so. :D

My husband struggles with consistency in the mornings. He doesn’t have ADD but he has a long commute so I convinced him to listen to an audio Bible. I do the same if I realize the morning got away from me and I never read the Bible. Days like that though aren’t quite the same as reading and marking up my Bible as I pray.

I grew up with ADHD and didn't know about it till adulthood. It was very difficult because of tradition. Having my eyes closed in prayer is not for me. The bad thing is that it took me many years to figure it out and learn how to deal with this. The good thing is that God was very helpful and once I new what was going on I figured out how to deal with my bad days. God is almighty and can help with this problem

Yes amen to that! I love that idea of community building :3 what really worked for me too is listening and singing to worship music. Like I would literally play worship music out from RU-vid or Spotify and I would stand and just sing and worship to it. It gets me into the right heart posture of awe in reverence for God's sovereignty such that I'll feel a greater inner desire to read His word and learn more about Him. Doesn't have to be long one to two songs is great! If you don't wanna sing that's okay, you can also worship in the spirit

Thank you. This helps. I have another idea that helps me when studying the Bible. I use 1 to 3 colorful pens to underline, box, or circle what stands out to me as I read and sometimes write off to the side what I learned about that section inside the Bible. (Just like studying for a class). The good thing about this is you can go back and find it easily in the future.
@IHaveADHD
@IHaveADHD 2 года назад
I have only done this tip with pens, but it's also really helpful to see how I've spiritually matured! I've written questions to myself in the margin of my Bible about a section of scripture and now as I'm older, I will read it and almost cringe, like "wow, that was not what that passage was about at all" lol But it helps me to see what I was thinking back then!
