I love complex oscillators because of the insane amount of sounds and timbres you can get from them. I noticed Mutable Instruments doesn't really have one. So I did some searching and found a tip from Emilie to use two Tides and Warps. Mais oui!
This video also features a test with two Plaits and Warps, which is also cool, but it doesn't give you the versatility of a real CO with all the outputs you can patch everywhere. However, the sounds you can get from it, is totally amazing because of all the weird sounds Plaits has to offer. Nothing 'classic' about it though!

Yo that was dope. I love the melodies sort of coming in and out in a haunting way. There’s a mix of randomness but then a hint of some melodies. Definitely the vibe that I strive to get. Great sounds!

@@CinematicLaboratory Yeah I agree. In all my research since being interested in modular the MI modules keep cropping up. They look simple on the outside but are all so very deep, the possibilites (which you have proven) are almost endless. You and @ComparativeIrrelevance are awesome resources for this.

Two and a half years later may be too late to ask, but as I’m just about to acquire a second Tides I would welcome some patch notes. Ah well, I expect it will be fun trying to work it out!

Step one is to find the mode where Tides 2 becomes an oscillator with four different outputs. This gives you a powerful VCO. I think one of the outputs is a sine or triangle. Now add the second one, and patch them through Warps for ringmod, wavefolding, etc. For complex osc patches, use one as a modulator (pitch affects the other one's pitch) and one as a principal. My 259 series will give you the knowledge to figure this out. Since there's no bus, you can use Links, Kinks, Warps or all three of them. When you're ready to go deep, try to add a Blinds for CV attenuation, inversion and mixing.

I have two tides v1 and am now thinking of a third as one of them runs sheep beta firmware. I love this idea and warps is continually on my “one day” list. Great video, subscribed

Thank you for subscribing! I think you can already have insane fun if you use Tides V1 + Sheep and run them through Warps. It's probably going to sound like a ShapeShifter. ...but V2 has the fundamental waveforms...

@@CinematicLaboratory I think I’m going to add a v2 for the extra features. Sheep is great alongside tides, you have a sync input on sheep too. I like pairing it with braids for added fun. Plaits would also be a great match! Thanks for the reply!

@@CinematicLaboratory Oh wow! I was not expecting a response! Frankinkstides is a module from Tesseract Modular that combines two Tides v1's with the max/min circuit from kinks, alongside some switches for fm and sync between the two halves. It's a bit less capable than two V2s and a warps, but its a really neat little module :) Please keep up the good work! You're already one of my favorite modular youtube people, and I think its absolutely criminal that you've only got 3k subscribers.

My Warps just arrived. First patch was both Twin Waves channels. Awesome. My uTides is collecting dust at the moment until room opens up somewhere. I DO have 2 Plaits though. Plaits is awesome, and it's a great ingredient for almost any casserole. Nobody complains that rosemary is useless because it always tastes the same. ;-) Warps meets Error Instruments?

Have fun with your Warps! I still have to do a Parasite walkthrough because this alt firmware is amazing. I also remember trying to flash it almost 50 times before it succeeded (it needs the exact right volume when the firmware is played back). Plaits is a masterpiece and with two you can create really complex sounds. Especially with Warps between them!

I love Tides V1 as an osscilator, its the main reason I bought one in the first place. It certainly doexnt get the love and rezpect it deserves..... I must save my monies and get another one so I can explore its other features too!?

Tides V1 is amazing but V2 has more outputs with elemental waveforms. But V1 can run sheep which is very cool. If you're not planning to start a youtube channel or play live I guess your single Tides is going to give you a lot of patching pleasure. I would go for Warps because it has a built in oscillator to take your V1 to the next level, or a Beads when available.

Many people don't realize that 'analog' means 'direct relationship with the acoustic energy' so you can see/measure the music on the medium that carries it, like magnetic tape or vinyl. Digital just means 'stored as numbers'. You need encoders and decoders to recreate the original energy and things can get lost in translation. I just don't understand why so many people hate digital while it's impossible to listen to anything analog on any streaming service.
