Tip for next time: pre-finish those panels before assembly. You'll be fighting unfinished sections showing as the humidity changes.

Rich, nice job. Tip, when using the 3/4 black water pipe clamp insert a 1 inch plastic water pipe as a spacer. It will keep the wood raised above the pipe so you won’t have to deal with the black stain on the wood. Sometimes that black stain will go deep in the wood since it acts like a stain. The spacer can be what ever width you want. Regards

With the amount of doors your seem to be setting up to do you’d be doing yourself a huge favor to get shaper bits for the profiles and groover for the stiles and rails.

Richard. With the weight of the door you will need to hang the door as you would an exterior door i.e. two screws of the top and middle hinge must enter into the rough framing to assure to sag. If you don't the weight will pull the hinges and loosen 5/8-1 " screws.-

If you run across an old Stanley #80 scraper plane locally at some point, pick it up and use it to scrape the joints on panel glue ups. It makes it so easy to remove exactly the right amount of material to even the joint and clear the glue. All part of keeping horrible horrible sanding to a minimum.

Nice work mate! Moving more and more into joinery. It’s so satisfying when these things come together. Heads up with oak - be carful how long the material is in contact with metal - bar clamps etc, it will stain. Try some wax paper over you bar clamps when assembling.

I think I would have used biscuits on the joints. They provide a big addition to overall joint strength and stability. Also, be careful to never overtighten clamps. especially pipe clams. You can squeeze the glue out of the joint. This can lead to premature joint failure over time. With Oak, you get a little forgiveness because of the deep grain structure, but on a wood like cherry, it could hurt.
@blakevenableoutdoors9474

Biscuits add virtually no strength to a joint lol they are for alignment

That’s some really thick panels, “looks” thicker than the door frame. I would cut rabbets on 4 edges before cutting profile just to relieve some stress from that router but. 1 question. Why not use the shaper in your combo machine? You can run multiple pieces clamped together.

@davidt8438
@davidt8438 Год назад
Those four cutter Freud bits are really great. Pricy but wonderful finish. Rather than a pencil line you should use a clamp for a positive stop thereby ensuring exact dimensions of your final product on all four sides. You should definitely pre finish/seal the grooves and panel edges as well as the face of each panel so you don’t get witnesses marks when the wood shrinks down the road. It also serves to control and slow down absorption of humidity and water vapor. I would recommend dewaxed shellac as it’s the best thing you can use to slow water vapor. Finally the worst thing you could do is leave the garage doors open during the rain.
