Paul McBeth during his final year on Innova in old Disc Golf Pro Tour series Championship, he had an issue with older version basket where outer chains were also having sideway chains same as inside and Paul was forced to use his AviarX3 beuse disc was in champion and he could slam putt his discs without worrying on cracking his main Aivar or warping his Nova. Next year these highest level baskets were no longer made but it took whole season for older model to sell out on stores website. Nobody was buying because price was higher then new update and I suspect company just had people working removing sideways chains and scrapping for money for company or workers at end of summer season.

I have the lower end Prodigy baskets on my property. Since they have fewer layers of chains, there is less mass and less "push back" on the disk. I've not experienced any more spit outs of the front of the baskets that any other baskets that I've played on. Prodigy can easily fix this issue with a little engineering effort.

The simplest fix is to slightly increase the size of the bottom basket in relation to the chains. An extra four inches of bottom basket diameter would likely have saved both of Issac's Preserve spit-outs. Additionally the basket edge could be engineered to make for a better catching surface. For instance if instead of a vertical basket edge, if it fluted slightly outward near the top this would encourage any discs that hit the chains and then bounce and hit the basket to bounce back toward the center instead of straight up. This would give the basket a very mild funnel effect.

they need to just make the cage at the bottom wider..like if you hit chains the disc should stay in. like in basketball, if your ball passes through the rim and into the net, it shouldnt be able to fly out of the net and not count. if the disc hits the chains it should fall in the cage

Hear me out, so we all know there’s baskets out there with triple chains. What if the outer chains are smaller gauge, then the middle chains are slightly larger, followed by the inner chains being the largest? It would give the disc a chance to pass through 2 sets of chains before hitting the biggest, and I think that would almost completely eliminate the chance of it coming back through the first two chain rings. Or, they design chains that slide along the top just enough to keep them from swinging back so hard. Idk, but our local park has baskets from Amazon that are triple chain and they’re PHENOMENAL baskets and the best I’ve played on to date. Haven’t had a spit out yet when I hit it in the center, only when I throw a bad putt and glance off the left side.

What if there was just a basket, no chains. Just a pole that holds up a basket. So you have to have touch to land your disc in the basket. With the baskets we have now they discs would bounce out so we would need to make them deeper or the bottom can be soft so it absorbs the disc.
@caseysmith544
@caseysmith544 13 дней назад
Yes deeper is solution as foam would not last. Another would be a big cone on a pole where when a disc hits hey ring in a specific tone. One was sold like his in 1980's to very early 1990's as a piece of playground equipment for a noise toy but some old disc golf courses as old Mach II were hard to buy always sold out. I saw a video on RU-vid on a Kansas City course like his, was a higher quality promotional video piece for a bid on worlds in 1980's but course lost becuse old layout of course did not use a tee off area/tee pad separate from previous basket, only hole 1 had a natural tee off area.

So I have made my own disc golf baskets & when I Googled the dimensions & parameters I specifically used the 6 inner & 12 outer chains design. Mimicking the disc catcher style of old. It works great! I don't understand why disc golf basket manufacturers are trying new chain configurations & design when the 6 & 12 chain design works fine. I think the chain links connecting the inner & outer chains is ridiculous! Like Uli said. They spit the disc out.

@Qcn0xa
@Qcn0xa 13 дней назад
The problem with Prodigy baskets are simply the horizontal chains. I think Isaacs putt went into that square pocket of chains and couldn't fall down like in other baskets, so the chains pushed it out. Last year his putter rolled on top of one of those horizontal chains and went through. In other baskets the putter would've fallen between the chains, and just maybe hit the cage on the backside if anything. I think the only big problem with other baskets is when the chains don't slow you enough, and you hit the pole too hard and bounce back. I don't think we need to change the size of the basket. Just try different combinations of vertical chains to see what catches the best. Heavier chains in the middle to make the last effort to slow the disc down before the pole, and lighter chains on the outside, so they don't push the putters out. Just see what works the best.

A. Is it possible to put like "retainer chains" on the chains (attatched to the chains and the center pole of the basket) so they can't swing out from the basket as much and hence not beeing able to push the disc to far back out? B. I was first thinking of having loser chains but that wouldn't help since gravity would pull those chains down and create the same tension anyway I guess. (But maybe the disc would start dropping a bit before the chains start pushing back and hence make it fall lower and have the "guard rails" stop it easier?)

The reality is that equipment fails all the time across all sport.its more common in some sports than others but its just a part of the game. Bats break all the time, every now and then a ball goes right through a glove and a runner is called safe since the ball was “dropped”. In motor sports, there are mechanical failures all the time and it cost drivers podiums, wins etc. Baskets failing and spitting good putts, is unfortunate and sometimes heartbreaking when a player loses strokes because the basket “failed”. I think it’s difficult to say but the only reasonable decision I could see if universal baskets at all pro tour events and also maybe a new rule that a card or third party rule enforcer can make a group decision that the out should of been good and perhaps give a retake with 0 stroke penalty, just a re attempt basically. But idk if that’s the best solution.

@themechanicalhound9932 they have a new technology roof, cool. I've heard some turf is okay, but one type of turf is the big issue. (Giants stadium)

@@michaelmaniloff9297 Old Bills stadium the turf or foam was another as was no grip in any kind of precip be it rain or sow and foam in winer on cold days sometimes became so hard players were so messed up they could not walk again or players had brain injures when foam was hard. Giants have all kinds of issues and field was a major reason Jets moved from said stadium.

So I was going to try and make a product myself that would solve some of these problems and make a more unified putt "feel". Life is not gonna allow me to invent my product, so here you go world! A 1/4-1/2" thick silicone rubber sleeve on the pole. Step one The inside chains are lighter gauge than the outside chains. Step two Both steps manage, but not excuse "zippy" putts, therefore leveling that facet

Imagine a professional bowling event where the pins were more weighted on the bottom and pins just randomly didn't fall over. Imagine a professional darts tournament where the board randomly rejected darts 5% of the time. Imagine a swim meet where the timers sometimes didn't register when the swimmer hit the wall. Bad equipment leading to more randomness is a HORRIBLE look for any sport trying to be taken seriously. These trash baskets gotta go. It's honestly ridiculous we are still using them.

Isn’t that the “Tonal” disc golf originally had? It was just a pole that made a ding sound when you hit it.

Soccer occasionally has issues with equipment complaints. World cup balls especially the South Afrika ball was highly criticized.

Chain whiskers thin enough they wouldn’t keep it out of the basket, but would help it not bounce out.

Everyone throws at the same basket, maybe it’s not the basket.

I've been commenting for a while that there should be a standard basket for all PDGA Silver and above events. The ball golf target is exactly the same every time. Why can't disc golf be the same?

He needs to take it up with his sponsor. I do believe you need to putt with touch, but those baskets rejected some pretty soft putts.

What is similar is they used a new reinvented rubber basketball and it ended up only lasting in the NBA for a month.

Magnetize the discs! There is your fix for Prodigy baskets. Or just place them where they belong in the trash. Both are better options then what we have now.😂

That looks like it could be fixed with an engineering solution.

With any basket, every link on every chain presents the potential to affect how the disc reacts when it hits them. You could not even write a physics equation to address the variables involved. Other sports have a much less complicated way to finish (hoop/basketball, hole/ball golf, net/soccer & hockey, goalposts/football, etc). Solution: Eliminate the chains and the pole, and, so the disc can fall downward and not spin and roll/jump out of a now shallow chain-less/pole-less basket, keep the basket size as is but then the basket tapers, like a funnel, all to the way to where it mounts into the ground. Now aces by players would be much more rare (like ball golf). Long putts would be much less successful and lag putting would be very important (like ball golf). Not trying to make disc golf the same as ball golf, just trying to make how one completes a hole in disc golf to be as uncomplicated as it is in ball golf. To me, more uncomplicated = more fair. Pipe dream , yeah. You'd have to retro-fit everything, but in the long run, these new "baskets" would be a lot cheaper to make and the sport would be more fair.

I could have sworn that, while watching jomez a year or two ago, the topic of using smaller baskets like bullseyes kept coming up, because disc golf was getting too easy for the pros. So now we need baskets that catch absolutely everything? Which is it?

Just make the basket under the chains a little larger on prodigy baskets…

No basket is perfect. People always complain and there will always be spit outs. That said I am starting to think these Prodigy baskets may be worse than most.

There is a comparison to type of bat and/or glove you can wear in baseball, type of racket or paddle you can use and not use in racquet sports.
