Minimum wage was created to stop employers from exploiting people. Look it up. No matter what job someone does they should be able to make a living (home, food, clothes, basic living expenses).

The idea isn’t to stay in a minimum wage position but higher positions/wages mean you need to be in an industry with transferable skills for at least one year. So why make it terrible for people who have to wait or with no prospects

@@roronoa_raf2201 sorry but that’s an excuse. It’s called paying your dues. We all start at the bottom and should strive for more. Not expect more from the bottom. There a tons of avenues to make progress. You have to put the work in for it to happen. Plus you raise the minimum and everything else goes up too. Make the new minimum worthless. We shouldn’t be paying $15-$20 an hour for entry level positions. Bottom line.

I make my own food and eat for less than 40 bucks per week. But, sometimes you gotta stop and eat out… and I am always sticker shocked now, as it is. I get how people have gotten into the habit of eating out, but it’s time to find a grocery menu that you can keep under a cheapest as possible budget per person. And make your food. I particularly like eggs and potatoes for breakfast… pretty cheap… but I like to cook in real butter… my splurge… then I would get a few toxins for sandwiches to take for lunch and have bean burritos for dinner with sautéed peppers and onions that I cooked up w the breakfast. It helps to eat mostly the same thing all week and switch it up the next week… ie… avocado sandwiches one week l, Bologna the next, etc… these fast food places may just eventually go out of business.

Don't rush too fast to your new fast food position....... you'll soon be replaced by automation. A kiosk to oder your food and an AI robot to prepare your meal. The only person who'll be in a fast food restaurant will be a technician to repair any down robots. Just think, no salary to pay for, no overtime, no health care benefits, no vacation pay, no unemployment benefits that the company has to fork over when they fire you, no workplace injuries/lawsuits. All the goodies that come with not having to worry about an "employee". Enjoy your$20/hr in CA while you still have a job 👍

Typically dine in restaurant employees get tips. This is far more than the 4 dollar difference. Many restaurants have also started tip sharing with the employees who do not typically get tips, like cooks and hosts, though this is not mandatory.

​@1st4mendment maybe stay on topic? We were discussing the differences between the extra 4 dollars paid to fast food employees versus dine in restaurant employees making minimum wage. Also, its not up to you to determine what is or isn't a more of a career according to your opinion or indoctrinated standards. Its people that share your opinions on fast food employees "not having a real job" that has allowed them to be overlooked for so long. Not to mention caregivers are often treated way better and with more kindness by the general population.

Crime would go way down with no minimum wage. Did you know before the Democrats started aggressively increasing the minimum wage there was less than 10% minority unemployment? it is crazy that we make it illegal for businesses to be able to hire teenagers for what they are worth and make them have to spend time out on the streets. They deal drugs, they join gangs, etc,,,,

@demisx I think it's more of what they said. Trying to pay back the people that risked their lives to feed us during the pandemic and so they can attempt to pay their bills. I remember working at fast food as a young man. It was hard work and it wasn't fun. $20 an hour isn't much in today's economy. The REALITY is this is already happening.

@1st4mendment opinions vary. Many Ma & Pa companies pretend to be actual companies when they really aren't. If you have to 1099 your workers because you can't afford different you are not a business. Not really. Also if you can't afford to pay people. The big businesses pay their executives way too much and most of the time those positions do literally nothing. PS Dnt be North Korea or China. Ummm, I didn't get a recap of all 900+ new laws in California! Or a memo in the mail. Not everyone is internet connected nor do they have an address to send the memo to! You are correct that laws are too complicated to navigate - or for the average citizen to comprehend if you are not fully informed. By not informing us of the other 895 laws, that's 895 more chances for you to go to jail in error and have to pay to play Jailhouse revolving door. Homeland Security wants YOUR DNA in the database and have proved they'll use any method possible through LEO's to get it. Almost forgot to mention all the other new laws, over 2,000+, (we) know nothing about that are now in effect in the other 49+ states that (we) live, work and play in. Micro-management of humanity has been elevated to nano-management.

These are employment laws. The workplace is legally required to update their employees…

We also don’t need you. California is one of the top earning states. Industries boom here, it has major cities and ports, land used for agriculture and people who actually care for their fellow citizens

@1st4mendment Hawaii has changed, I been here 41 years! I make $15/hr. That is not a living wage. The cost of living in Hawaii has skyrocketed and the average person cannot afford to live here anymore, very sad for indigenous families.

Some restaurants have already started cutting employees b/c of these laws. There will be fewer people working, more automation. More people on the streets of San Francisco, if they don’t have enough already.

At some point executive level people will HAVE TO take the hit that they dont want to, or else they wont have a business. The fast food wage only impacts major fast food outlets, not mom and pop businesses. It’s brilliant and will leverage other employers to pay more.

@@melaniexoxo most of those stores, like McDonalds, are franchises owned by mom and pop small businesses, their margins are very low, the average fast food store may has a profit of $60K-$70K/year, requiring these owners to run several stores like that to keep financial sense. Plus the profit is not guaranteed, it is business, they run into all kinds of unexpected problems for which they need to pay out of pocket. An increase to $20/hr would mean they will have to cut corners somewhere, like firing people, doing more automation, doing less maintenance, or closing down the business. Big corporations try to avoid dealing with low skilled low paid workers as much as possible. McDonald’s makes money from selling their services to such franchise owners, for charging rent for the building and for holding and selling real estate. If you ever happen to run a large corporation, the last thing you want is to hire hourly low wage workers.
