The Altima hasn't just been what it used to in the 90's. After the 2nd generation Altima ended in 2001 quality and reliability dropped significantly. At least Nissan adressed the size/interior space issue that 2nd generation had.

Bought a 2011 Altima rental car with 40K miles in 2013, have changed CVT fluid by dropping pan only 3 times. Now we're up to 180K miles no issues. I also changed the small trans filter once at about 120K. Bought a 2022 AWD Altima new, has 33K miles. Like the ride & trunk space & 35 mpg in our mixed driving not much in city. Have Blizzak tires on steel rims only snow drifts will stop it ! Last winter drove it up to Arapahoe Basin ski area twice on snow covered pass & feels like riding on rails !

I’m on my second Forte GT (first the 2022 six-speed which I sold to Carvana for more than I paid for it) then an identical 2023 GT with the DSG. Each with the 201-hp 1.6T engine. At $26K fully loaded OTD it’s been really enjoyable, and a hell of a value. FYI this is my 38th car (32 new / 6 pre-owned)

@@reserva120 I’ve bought exactly two Kia’s in my lifetime. One last year which I sold to Carvana at a $1500 profit. And one this year (with 4% interest and below standard OTD) which is my current daily driver (which is to say I hardly drive at all these days since I work from home). At 8 months I’ve put only 2K miles on it. I never trade in, I sell outright at a higher price. My cars are meticulously maintained and tend toward rarer/more desirable powertrains and options. As for your oh so helpful comment, I’m very good at managing acquisition costs, using leases where prudent, and maximizing returns on the ones with bank loans. For most of my career I’ve been able to take either mileage or acquisition cost deductions from my taxes which increase my refund to where the payments and insurance are covered. So I’m not losing money at any point, and I’ve got the spreadsheets to prove it. I’ve been doing this since I was 16 so maybe (just maybe) I know a bit more than you on the subject. I really wanted to like the VW Taos but honestly, the 7spd dsg 4motion version is just unsafe from a drivability perspective. In 15 years I've owned versions of the mk5, mk6, and mk7 golf, so I'm brand loyal to VW. I like the way the taos looks and handles but in traffic situations I have never in my life experienced a vehicle in which the engine, transmission, and gas pedal are literally at war with each other. The sad thing is Ive heard the 2wd version with the 8spd auto has none of these issues, but I after drove the dsg I went down the road and bought a Honda CRV hybrid. I don't love the Honda at all but it does what I need it to do safely and I trust it.

I've also had to do $2k worth of suspension upgrades but now I LOVE the way it drives and handles. It has come a long way from what we know muscle xars to handle. This car handles amazingly once you upgrade suspension components all because Ford uses cheap rubber bushings. If only Ford had done polyurethane instead.

Being in the parts supply business, why do the parts for Kia/Hyundia cost as much as parts for BMW, Mercedes, LR/Jag parts? Also, late models are harder to find parts for. Customers are shocked at the prices of the parts for "cheaper priced" vehicles. We are seeing a lot of Korean vehicle trade-ins at our dealerships... satisfaction rating?
@foellerd

Nobody “wants” a Korean car but plenty need one. Why? Cheap buy in and reliable with a warrant for 10 years/100k miles. After that they fall apart and are throw aways. Bottom line, they get the job done for cheap till customers can satisfy their aspirations to own something better. This is comming from somebody who’s owned 3 new Kia’s and seen them come and go. Now my family has Toyota money and we will never look back.

That 10 year/100K was definitely a deal maker. When we could afford better we Got better. There is a need for vehicles in that price range.

One issue with these list from consumer reports.. they are based on surveys that cover a range of years. These tend to create stigmas, positive and negative that are reflected in results. For example Honda minivans had horrible transmission issues for a few years but still received positive reviews based on previous years. Meanwhile cars that had teething problems early in their life tend to suffer in their ratings for years after it’s been fixed. I suspect that is some of Nissans problem with the Altima for example. They had horrible problems with their CVT’s for years. From what I hear they are now much improved. So how much of their negative results are the result of these kinds of bias? This can make it incredibly difficult for a brand to fix their reputation.

I owned a 2007 Altima that I maintained better than 99% of Altima owners and the CVT transmission still died at 135k miles after receiving regular transmission fluid flushes. It died without warning on the highway and I had to get it towed. Now, I have a 2010 Avalon that I love to pieces. I work at an auto auction and it is insane how often and how quickly Nissan CVTs fail. I've been in multiple 2022-23 Nissans that have a dead transmission and/or check engine light around 30-40k miles. Don't believe anyone who tells you Nissan CVTs got better. I personally have sworn off Nissans forever but if you absolutely need a Nissan, get something with a manual and pray that it wasn't trashed to hell mechanically by the previous owner or modified poorly (🎺🎺🎺). Side note, Nissans fail so often at my work that they are usually not worth fixing so a large percentage of our lot cars are Altimas and Rogues with bad transmissions, bad engines, broken AC, broken suspension, etc.

It's a great product, it's a great successor to the original Godzilla, unlike BMW Supra or GR 86-grand. It's the epitome of pate 2000s - early to mid 2010s gas-powered car: it's got the turbos, the all-wheel drive, it's massive and it's gorgeous. And Y62 Patrol might not be the most capable offroader, but it's the most confidence-inspiring one with absolutely enormous suspension travel and clever electronics that works seemlessly and instantly. Unless you got stuck with all 4 wheels or you simply lack geometry to clear the obstacle - this thing will just go not giving a single damn. And let me not even start how beautiful of a car the Y62 is, especially in that super asian gold color😍 Those two came out in 2007 and 2009 respectively. During the same era Nissan made a ton of cars that weren't particularly that outstanding, but had at least some cool quirks to them: the alian-looking Premera, the small and nimble Juke - the Nissan's vision of Mini, the great overal Murano, also as the Infiniti brand Nissan made arguably the best interpretation of a sports sedan, at least design-wise with those tasty two muffler tips in the back and overal very sporty yet elegant look with the G37 model, and it made the absolutely revolutionary, absolutely insane sportscar-based crossover, which was like a DBX of the early 2000s, except cheaper - the FX.

I owned Infiniti 2004 G35x with factory Nismo aero kit for 10 years had no issues what so ever! Then I bought 2012 G37xS Infiniti for 7 years fortunately, it wasn’t as reliable. I was going to buy Q50 Red sport but transmission and price was not worth it. I was down with Infiniti did not like the directions was going. Genesis is everything Infiniti should be.

Low range EVs will not sell well in the US at any price. You can get fine used eGolfs and Leafs now for under $10k.. Under 250 mi delivered range is a utility cart/golf cart of limited interest compared to a base ICE for 50% less. Even 300 mi Model 3s are a challenge for buyers. Infrastructure, poor cold weather performance, and price are a continuing challenge.

Most of these are starter/budget cars. Not surprising that people aren’t satisfied with cars that are small, slow as molasses, and have no features.

The 2013 Ford fusion is a disaster. It looks terrible crushed. The rear wheels camber in and the front struts explode while the lower control arms snap like twigs. The 2013 Ford Taurus looks good busted down. Furthermore the 9 speed ZF trans axle is a disaster. It has that dog clutch that makes it shift funny between first and second gear. ZF makes a great RWD transmission.

I sold my 94 Civic and got a 2004 Sebring limited V6 fully loaded. Would I buy another. No! I was stuck with that thing until 2022. I had to put a starter and alternator on it in addition to maintenance and tires and brakes in that 18 years. Sometimes the dash lights flickered when it was 12ish. Had cars not been in such demand I probably would not have gotten the 3k I sold it for. I got myself back into a Honda. Guess it all worked out.

I truly think that Infiniti, Dodge, Chrysler and even Nissan are in a very bad position. Nissan for so long has been the rental and budget option. People looking for quality don’t consider Nissan. Infiniti is even in a worse position. No one is happy with a CVT or cars that date back years and years. For Fiat, Dodge and Chrysler, I have no idea how those brands make it. The dealer network and so little models is mind blowing to me.

18:07 well the car's main appeal is it's price, and while it's a good price, you slowly realize how little you got for it. With the Chevy Trax now showing Nissan how it's done, I hope they are taking notes

I have a 2019 Nissan Altima SR AWD, and yes the CVT is a pain the ass, the horsepower sucks, and why would you have CVT in a turbo engine, they dont understand the buyers needs, the CVT needed to go a long time ago, why would you do a soft refresh 2023 model Altima and still have a CVT, rant over 😉

After buying a used 2018 Honda Fit. Its honestly not that surprising to me why more affordable cars are not that satisfying to owners. I know I am several years away. But cheap affordable cars are CHEAP. I have been incredibly disappointed with the ownership experience of the Fit the build quality is the biggest flaw. Most of the issues are with the car itself being so fragile and cheaply put together. Opening the door makes me have a mini heart attack as I am afraid it will just fall off. I have a huge leak in the back atm and numerous other flaws. I dont really mind cheap materials as long as they dont break. But these be breaking. I think one thing as well is so many peoples first cars are used larger better built nicer cars. Even though many of these cars are over 15 years old. I think some people who are finally able to buy new are just disappointed how after 15 years the car they get lacks many of the features their old worn out rust bucket had. I was very surprised how my Fot had all this tech like three cameras but was missing stuff like rear cup holder, lumbar support, and more. Also the weak pathetic engines these cars have. I drive like a grandpa in a land yacht. But even my Fits lack of power can really be dangerous at times. But for others the lack of power is just boring as they have hevaier foots. Its definitely more to it than that. But I think its one perspective to consider. I have absolutely no intention of buying a cheap car new or used ever. This whole experience and seeing other cars being made today makes the cars just feel so weak and so easy to break. I doubt my Fit will last as long as my families other vehicles. Same applies to other cheap cars made today. Already seen tons of issues with the Trax.
