But that isn't really true. You are thinking about quality products, which has nothing to do with high fashion at all. Though some high fashion makes use of quality products. Quality products are not much more expensive than regular products. You can get quality leather shoes tailor made for a few hundred bucks that will last a lifetime if you get them serviced every three to five years depending on how rigorously you use them. For that price you have about what's needed to be allowed to take out a loan to buy some cheap "high fashion" shoes. Not even talking about how high fashion shoes, especially for women don't tend to be made durable enough to survive any real amount of service visits.

I only retired them because there is a big etched and a painted Adidas logo on top (black rubber slippers with bright white stripes) that was heavily faded and the dye on the rubber was also slightly discoloured and I was told it makes me look like a homeless cheapskate. I sill have those slippers and intend to keep them as a spare pair just in case I need them for something. They also were not that expensive either I got a multibuy offer and I think it was 2 for £25 which is less than $30 and I gave a pair (blue slipper with same white logo) to my brother but his pairs are in much better condition and I only stopped wearing mine a little over a year ago and I got them in like 2015/16

If people know you possess expensive items, they will think you're accomplished or powerful person. Because these items are sort of "membership ID" of powerful class. The door to exclusive circle of power might be opened to you. 2. You want the personal satisfaction by buying "high quality" items. Even though most brands lies, your brain can't comprehend such lies, due to the powerful marketing the brands have. it is easier for your brain to accept that they're high quality, than the possibility that it's all a massive fraud. they are in the US too, at least they were in the 80s/90s. It was always so disappointing when mom said we were getting new shoes and then we went to payless.

Yes, there is still a difference between quality and cheap shoes. Payless isn’t going to get you quality.

This was really good, but too late to save Payless which is sad. I remember my designer shoes I had just bought recently broke while I was at a mall and I had to buy some 20 dollar shoes from Payless. Those shoes lasted yearssss. Payless quality did go down so much, but their shoes were still on par with these pos designer shoes that sell the same shoes at luxury prices. Real rich/wealthy don't wear any of it and are paid and given these products for marketing. The things they actually wear aren't even offered to the general public as exclusivity is what that type wants.

I used to get most of my shoes from Payless and they felt comfortable and held up well. I was gutted when they closed their stores.

The whole point of luxury products is to show off that you can afford them, it was never about the quality. As long as the quality is reasonable you just have to convince people it's expensive.
