I'm blessed to be able to play 5 different courses at the resort I work at. I've found every type of ball imaginable and tried them all. Nothing beats a yellow Pro V1, but a very close second is the neon green Vice Pro. Honestly, I would play the Vice if I paid for balls, but with 300 million lost, someone has to find them.
I recently brought some Vice pros and love them. The durability of them are great. I hit alot of trees and still good durability. Feel fantastic too. Alot cheaper then others
Beginner here, grade B lake balls at £25 for 50! I lose on average one ball per 2.5 holes. So as nice as all those fancy balls may be, if it’s round and not cracked, I’ll play it.
I really appreciate that you are promoting affordable golf equipment. I have been using the Kirkland ball for 3 years now. Played the ProV 1 for many years and yes the Kirkland bal maybe a half a club shorter but off the irons and wedges it feels and performs the same. My only complaint was the poor durability of the cover on the V2 but have been playing the new version for a couple of months now and it is noticeable how the durability was improved.
I bounce between a 5-10 handicap. I've been using the Kirklands for the last 3 years and using the last of my V2 stockpile before I switch to the V3. For $27 for 2 dozen there is no better price per ball anywhere for the Quality. To put this in perspective for 55 dollars you can buy one dozen Pro V1's or 4 dozen kirklands. Now lets say you use a sleeve of balls a round you would be paying an extra $165 in golf balls every 16 rounds of golf you played using the Pro V's. Stretch that out and every 48 rounds of golf that $495 and every 100 rounds your looking at a $1000+. So with that saving you can either buy a new driver every year, a new set of irons every 2 years, take lessons or even take a nice vacation to a dream destination. As long as I can find the Kirklands I will continue playing them and enjoy my savings and give up my 3-5 yards on a drive and 300-500rpm on wedges. Thanks James for the great content and keep it coming.
The Kirkland V3 are absolutely terrible. Unpredictable and spinny as shit. Had to shift my stock yardarges back like 10 yards to compensate for how terrible a golf ball it was. Fuck that.
Been playing Vice Pro Plus for 2 years now and I prefer them to any other ball. I love the way they stop on firm greens when hit with a mid-iron. I buy 5 dozen at a time to get the lowest price and as a 12 handicap that will last me a whole year. I'm not sure how durable they are as I tend to lose them faster than I can wear them out.
Absolutely love Vice Pro. Tons of feel, good distance, and nearly $20 cheaper than Pro V1. Once these are gone I'll give Kirkland a try as those are the only ones from your list i have available in my area.
At the risk of being repetitive, my personal pics are, in order of merit. At number 1 Vice Pro, and a close second, Snell MTB black [ now called the prime ] the MTB X was also good, but I do prefer a softer feeling ball, and play high spin, also , the Vice was a bit more durable. [ in my humble opinion ] On the budget end the Kirkland and the Enisis were just too unpredictable. I would be interested in re testing the Snell mtb prime, but it would have to be something VERY special to knock the Vice pro out of my bag.
I got my annual shipment of 5 dozen Snell MTB Prime balls about two weeks ago. I think I paid $27 per dozen. I've played them outside once (it is winter up here after all) and they perform very well, including being very spinny on the scoring clubs, which surprised me. Indoors they exhibit the same spin characteristics, low off the driver face and three to four thousand rpm off the sand wedge on a 35 yard chip. And they are very durable; on my last outdoor round I had occasion to get into a couple of sand traps (wet, hard packed sand) and the ball came out without a blemish, spun to a quick stop and were very much everything I had hoped for. These will last me the entire 2024 season, partly due to mad skills and partly because I'm not long enough off the tee to get into real trouble any more. Your mileage may vary, of course.
Like many here I play the Vice pro plus. It has been an extremely good ball for me. There was a very short adjustment period when I switched, mostly around the greens. 3 rounds after the switch I can't imagine changing back. I still find and play Pro V1's every now and again. I do admit that the Pro V is better. That being said, you would have to be a better golfer than myself to utilize the differences.
Vice Pro Plus are great balls. I love the soft feel and stickiness of the ball. They work for my game. As well, I’m a big fan of Titleist trufeel bslls.
I have played both the Kirkland V.-1 and V.-2 as well as the Seed balls. For the money, The Kirkland works as good for me as any ball out there. Good quality at a good price equals value for me.
Snell is fantastic. I first tried Snells GET SUM ball. Very good 2 piece ball for only 18.99 a dozen plus $5 shipping. I then went to the Snell MTB prime. WOW. For me this 3 piece ball felt exactly like a PROV1. I mixed them up at home and couldnt tell the difference. Superb ball. Try them out ajd find the ball for you. You wont be disappointed.
I have been using SD-05 and very pleased with them. I sometimes go 2 or 3 rounds before losing it, or, as you say, I start spraying them around!!!! Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
I played this video again and I love it when you try to speak about plastics as if you are aware of what they are and how they perform as a material. Please keep saying urethane. It's very funny. Cheers bloke.
I've been using the Maxfli Straightfli and have had great luck with them. Durability has been outstanding. I'm not good enough to worry much about "spin" yet but I've been happy with it's rollout after landing. Also love the orange color.
I play Kirkland V3. I found that teeing up high and hitting high on the driver face really reduces the spin. Best ball I have found for the money and it isn't even close.
I am currently playing OnCore Vero X1. I absolutely love them and tests show they are comparable to Pro V1. For $40 per dozen they are well worth the money
That’s a great video James. I’ve been using Kirkland for a couple of years now, and I’ve always wondered if there was a better option for the similar price point. Much more useful than telling me how it compares to a ProV1. Keep up the good stuff mate.
the only one I've tried is the Kirkland and for the price and performance, it can't be beat. I'm glad it topped your list now I have no need to try the others and my local Costco is literally about a good par 4 away. In a straight line it's probably 2 tenths of a mile.
My favorite ball is a found Titlest Pro v1 and there seems to be lots of them. Currently, to replace the Snell when they stopped making them I used OneCore. Long and nice bite.
I have used Seed 01 for last 18 months soon to run out, they are great, i tend not to lose many balls, play a new ball each round, keep the prior for practice
Love the theme of this video. Wondering if you are considering doing this same video with their mid range balls. Thinking people like myself 25 hcp would find it valuable. Cheers.
I picked up a dozen Wilson Triads based on your review and I'm really enjoying them...plus, the Wilson brand takes me back. The Wilson Killer Whale driver is my favorite ever!
Golf Galaxy/Dicks Sporting Goods Maxfli Tour. Very very close to ProV1. The Kirkland balls are also very good but I found them to have some manufacturing inconsistencies resulting in the same inconsistencies in yardage on the course. For a mid to high handicapper they are great.
For me, Callaway chrome soft X. No better feeling ball, but, when I play courses with lots of hazards and I am not particularly striking the ball well, my next choice is the Kirkland. Hurts when I lose a 4$ ball. Kirkland's have a good feel and performance overall for the money. Always carry a sleeve in the bag.
I have been using the Kirkland balls for a few years now and find them great. always easy when throwing up the balls at the start of a round for partners as i seem to be the only one that uses them. People give them a funny look as if they are sub standard, and then loose a Pro V at £4 ago!!!
i do appreciate the outdoor comparisons, for myself the 2 soft piece balls work better until the greens firm up in the summer then i play a soft urethane ball, but i am 60
Made it to hole 12 the other day without losing one, which i don't think I've gotten past 9 without losing one before and im about 40 rounds deep into playing this hard game.
I have tried several and personally have found the Vice Tour longer than most and stops without spinning back so slightly less spin than the pro but much cheaper. Would like to see you guys give it a try.
I've tried most of these balls. I spent about 2 years trying to find the best ball for my game. The course I play on is usually windy. The Kirkland balls are absolutely awful when hitting into the wind. They just spin up and go nowhere. Of all the balls I tried they were the worst! I now play Wilson Triad all the time. If you buy in bulk, around 3 boxes, you can get them for less than £30 for a box of 12. I found the quality of the Vice balls very variable. I got some very strange flights from about 2 in each box. I assume the centres were not concentric. Golf Spy have recently done a review on the best golf balls available regardless of price. It's worth checking out what they say about the Wilson Triad.
Money and performance=Kirkland! good distance, a softer feel. and great spin for stopping power on greens. Additionally, they are much more durable than the original model
I have completely switched over to direct to consumer balls and the OnCore VeroX1 and 2022 Elxir are it for me. The VeroX1 beat Titelist ProV1 in Golf EQ’s testing
#In the aftermath of the golf ball factory fire in Taiwan I'd be doing a bit of research on the balls they make before taking out a a subscription. From the scant details it appears it was mostly two piece they produced but I reckon it's going to be a tough time for some of the DTC brands.
I love the vice ball, so much I hate to lose one😂. Rather lose a Pro-V that i found than a vice I bought. The bright colors are awesome. Know it’s me rolling up and easy to find
Thank you for thinking about the average golfer and not the sub 10 handicap group. It's nice to see an article about affordable and not top of the line equipment. I'm a fan of my golf spy but they don't talk about affordability as much as they do top-of-the-line equipment which is disappointing
Put me in the category where the type of ball I hit is irrelevant, simply because I am not anywhere near good enough to realize any difference there are in the different balls. For a long time I've been able to stay ahead of lost balls by finding others when looking for mine. I just hit whatever I find. I recently purchased a large batch of recon Kirklands on the cheap. I can confidently say that if I score poorly, it isn't the balls fault. It would be very interesting to see at what handicap does ball performance start to have an impact on your score.
Could you also test the Sugar golfball? I am playing with them for 2 years now and they really perform at Pro V1 level. Curious about your experience with this ball.
Been playing the Seed SD02 for short game. Feels fractional less pingy off face. Prob lose distance on driver as slowish swing speed. But I'm better off around greens
Really liked the seed ball. Played it for quite a while. Only not playing it now as been buying the tour response for a little less and really like them too. Vice good. Snel good.
The old Kirkland was a great ball but did scuff up easily, the new Kirkland feels the same but is as durable as any premium ball on the market. Don't tell too many people, they are starting to get hard to get.
Vice Pro or Pro Plus for me. Sadly to get best price I have to buy 5 dozen. I now rarely lose a ball on my local course, so 60 balls will last me a couple of years
You must not have deep woods or lakes or houses just off the fairways.. you should consider yourself lucky..my course it’s easy to lose a ball that’s not that far off line ☹️☹️☹️
I play the seed ball SD15 and love them I tried the seed SD02 but didn’t notice any difference between these balls so SD15 it is and that’s all that’s in the bag
James, if possible can you review the Druids S1 Pro Freel Tour ball? Its £9.99 for 10 and a three piece urethane ball (even though the site says Surlyn) quite an interesting ball given the cost
I loved the previous version of the Snells (MTB-Black and MTB-X), which you guys reviewed and liked. I've heard that Snell had to change factories for this new model because Taylomade Bigfooted the factory they used before. How is the durability?
Been test driving the Prime and Prime X and find the durability decent. Only been able to keep a ball for 9'ish holes till I hit it into the desert but haven't gotten too many scuffs. The Prime feels a bit softer and visually has a slightly higher flight.
I have loved Snell Golf Balls (and the "X" versions in particular) since they were first introduced ... and Dean Snell is a great guy, as well. I own 5 dozen of the MTB Prime X balls and they are fine golf balls in every respect. However, I also love the Vice Pro Plus balls. If you consider Maxfli to be a DTC ball, then it is a no-brainer for me -- the 4-piece Urethane cover Maxfli Tour X ball is the best ball of all, IMHO!
I have played the Vice Pro Plus and thought they were fine and was going to give the Snell MTB prime x a tryout since they are on sale currently for $124.95 for 5 dz..definitely a bargain since pro vs are twice that..should I get them? I’ve never tried them before but for $25/dz you can’t go wrong…
@@Tom-ok2rh- I say “go for it” if you are thinking about buying the Snell MTB Prime X balls. They perform great, are of very high quality, and if you weren’t aware of this, Dean Snell’s name is on the patents for the ProV1 and ProV1x balls, as well as several of the 5-piece TaylorMade Urethane-cover balls.
@@dougmael yea I saw his video a few years ago and am aware of his experience with golf balls I’m sure he would not put out a lousy product..like I said I think as long as they have them on sale I can’t go wrong..if they are even close to the Vice pro plus I’ll be happy..thanks
I was using balata and for practice sirlin balls in nineteen seventy. But larger went out of fashion because itid1878 S too expensive and gets knocked about the 2 holes. Sir, Lynn blasted forever. Do you not remember the original spalding Top Flite balls? Which would smhatter in the winter? Or the Balate Penfold Ace. Wound balls which would go around corners? Gary Player used these, boy you could get smilies if you mis hit them. It was title list with the pts ball that gave the first promise that you could not cut it , if you did, they would replace it.
I have been playing this for the last few weeks and WOW, what a ball. Best ball I have played in a long time and i also find it pretty long off the tee too.
I’m thinking about ordering some..they are currently on sale for $124.95 for 5 dz. With the top balls double that price I think they are worth trying them out..
And yet you will admit there’s golfers who can shoot 90 with a Pro V1 and have no business wasting their money on them.😐😐I’m a decent golfer and I can’t really tell much difference in the top balls that’s why I switch brands all the time..I’ve tried them all and am thinking about the Snell brand because currently they are on sale for $124.95 for 5 dz. With the top balls $50/dz $24.99 a dz for the Snell is worth a try👍
One problem with these DTC golf balls is they often develop a ball that mimics tour-played balls like Pro V1 and Pro V1x. Unfortunately those two tour balls aren't necessarily the best balls for many of us in terms of swing speed, spin rate, ball flight, etc., etc. Since the better players wont likely play these DTC balls I wish they would target the average hack like me and make a ball more slower swing friendly. The price suggests they are but thats about it.
Good video. I'm a 4 hcp. Lose very few balls. Don't buy most of the balls I use. We play tournaments and best shots where fortunately we win back enough to get balls when needed. Would like to see all these compared to other name brands on 40-50 yard shots outside. For me, the DTC are a good alternative but not what a Prov1 does. Durability can be iffy also on some DTC. Also, I use yellow. I do see the Kirkland ball has yellow. Might be worth a try if the durability has improved. At age 56, I just see yellow so much better. Last note: I'm in USA. Titleist, Bridgestone, Callaway make some versions of their balls here in the States. I support that for a few additional bucks.
