When talking about the sponsor Isn't gluten a matrix of protein chains? So bassically is a noodle brick made with a kind of strong bead flour. If that is the case then protein content doesn't matter because neither of the basic protein chains that make gluten are essential for your body. Saying that something has protein doesn't make it nutritious, your body needs specific aminoacids in specific proportions, so eating more "protein" by itself is no garantuee of anything. Same as with "healthy" food "high protein" is no more than a marketing lable and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
@@darkkraken1 Salt is good but that picky-ness about balancing amino acids at each meal has long been disproven. Lappe apologized and changed her tune years after her first book.
@@daala6698 Thanks for the info, i'll look it up. That still doesn't change my point though, that just like "healthy food" is a pretty vague label so it is "high protein", and as such it should be taken with some scepticism(since you don't like salt) specially when a company is trying to use it as a marketing label wich is the case given that is a paid promotion.
@@daala6698 And just so that everything is clear, he is promoting a "high protein" ramen brick as a sort of health food, it just so happens that gluten is a matrix of protein chains so it's stands to reason that one can suspect that it's just noodles made with bread flour instead of some sort of "diet friendly" substitute for regular ramen noodles. This is not me blaming the creator of the video since he is just doing his job, sharing his recipies and knowledge with the audience, i'm just trying to raise some reasonable quesstions about a product.
Not to take away from Ethan's great YT channel, but there is also Flexible Dieting Lifestyle which has some awesome macro friendly meals that are generally delicious and super easy to make as well!
I have similar goals at the moment so this is awesome! Please make this a series moving forward as I am always struggling to think of quick and healthy (low calories, high satiety, high protein).
Hey Ethan, I used to work at a Jimmy Johns. For some of our sandwiches, we were supposed to "pull the bread out" on the top half of our sandwich so we could stuff more veggies, etc into the sandwich. It also cut down on calories total by 120 calories. It also helped making sure my sandwich stayed together.
Love this type of content, I always felt that losing weight doesn’t = eating boring food, if anything it is a way to learn more skills and find new ingredients you never heard of. I love creating recipes that are delicious and healthy while also getting to use my creativity, to me it’s not boring at all. I think people are under the impression that a lot of the “healthier” options are flavorless trash, it’s really on us to create the flavor. I was at target the other day and ran to the produce area and picked up a head of cauliflower and thought “I can’t wait to see what amazing concoction I’m going to come up with tonight for dinner”, I wound up making “steaks” and made some farro (tbh, it wouldn’t have been my first choice in this situation) and butter beans I had left over, it was a very random but special meal, I felt full in a good way.
I don't just love how this is a cooking channel with replicable, down-to-earth (and smart as heck) cooking, but man, seeing someone make a meal on RU-vid and actually DIG IN is satisfying as hell. You're one of the few RU-vid Chefs that don't seem like they throw their stuff out after the shoot and that's just beautiful.
For real man. There's something satisfying about the way he is really enjoying the food. I went and tried the chop cheese recipe, sooo good, I could've eaten so many of them.
As someone who struggles with a binge eating disorder and a toxic environment, yet is passionate for home cooking, I adore your videos for both the food science / reasoning you bring, and the exposure to healthier methods of cooking-and in a sense, a healthier way of looking at a diet. Seeing your healthy approach at other dishes would be a treat!
@RU-vid Account I appreciate the feedback and really resonate with what you've said! And with regards to carbs, I have been in a sense, cutting out most to all processed carbs (refined sugar found in literally any product, flours, etc.). This current diet has *really* been of help, mentally, so I imagine I will slowly work towards less and less carbs in general.
Super funny you mentioned the “really full” feeling you enjoy, I’m in the same boat! And I always just thought that’s how you’re supposed to feel after eating! Met my girlfriend a little over 9 years ago and found out she hates that feeling, so it triggered me to ask around and turns out, it isn’t a necessity to stuff yourself until being “full”. Its okay to put the fork down before you’re uncomfortable, is something I’ve got to remind myself of more often.
@alek hile - Are you overweight by any chance? I have a theory enjoying that feeling has to do with the lasting changes to the brain caused by obesity. Ethan admitted at the beginning of the video he used to be overweight. I am too as a matter of fact (steadily losing weight) and I enjoy that feeling for sure.
@@piroman85 I’m currently overweight but not obscenely obese. Always been a normal weight I always did eat until I can’t, because as a child my mum gave me her trauma growing up in poverty. She’s never shown us poverty but every meal was treated like it’s the last ever 😂

I mostly fill up on veggies and fruits. I eat whole grains and meat and dairy sparingly. But don't get me wrong, I'm not above an occasional ice cream or pasta meal. I even went total vegan for a whole year. You can't deprive yourself of everything and be happy.
Love this type of stuff. Especially the convenience factor. It just adds to your options when you're not feeling like cooking so much, so you're more likely to stick to it. Would love more of this
Try substituting the protein noodles with konjac noodles and you loose almost all of the calories that come from the regular ones, also they tend absorb the sauce way better. You can then throw in some more meat or something else to make up for the protein.
@@cdiggidy Be careful if high protein noodles make you shit bad, Konjac noodles don't always digest (sometimes not at all) I've shit out complete undigested noodles before, looked like I had parasites lol. It wasn't a pleasant sight
I was gonna say this too, on paper they’re great but in practice their net nutritional value is very low and not worth the weirdness of how they move through your system. Can cause diarrhea for some people as well, myself included.

Regardless, super proud of you for making good decisions about your health, and I wish you the best of luck!
Made this again. This time I boiled the Naked Noods 4 min instead of 3 so they were much softer. I added some grated ginger, sauteed onions, shredded cabbage and blanched carrots (in the Nood water) plus a little more water. I like the texture of my first batch where I cooked the Noods for only 3 min but this was still very tasty. The Korean ground pepper I used is not very spicy. Looking for something hotter.
I love that you add MSG. I used to live in China and got into it once I dropped my western fear. It's insane how much flavor it brings out of pretty much any dish.
It's just a bit intimidating to buy a plastic bag of white crystals labeled only in thai script. You need to be committed to the idea of buying MSG, it's not something that will just end up in the shopping basket at the Asian grocery store because it looks appealing.

I've tried 3 different iterations of Vite ramen, and I can definitely say they improve their recipe with each new release. Older versions tasted too chalky to me, but the v3 version is legit good. Not as tasty as junky ramen, but it hits the spot while still being healthy.
Really enjoyed this one, I'm always up for new ideas for 500-600 calorie, higher protein meals :) My recent goto's are roasted chickpeas to bulk out meats or replace them and using low-fat hummus (a teaspoon) added to crushed tomatoes to give a creamy consistency to sauces.
As a vegetarian (eggetarian ?) This is great! I cant eat beef for religious reasons so chickpeas, whey, kidney beans , lentils and obviously eggs are my go to
@RU-vid Account So long as you combine different types of plant protein you're fine. Also, just add nutritional yeast. It's 57 calories a tablespoon, tastes great and has all 9 essential amino acids.
@RU-vid Account I think you're being a little disingenuous to the average intelligence. Also, things like, Rice and Beans are a complete protein. Most people are eating complete proteins in their vegetarian options without realizing it. When you eat a meat burrito from Chipotle you're getting the complete protein from the meat as well as the other things mixed into it. So long as a diet is varied and isn't eating the same thing day in, day out, and has variety in the meal itself (which is more difficult for those in poverty admittedly, or who don't have as much food available to them such as here in the US.) people generally don't need to worry about specifically looking for their complete proteins. Almost all cultural/historic food gets you a complete protein, because people have been eating it for 1000's of years and surviving, because it has what they need to survive. To give credence to your point though, I used to work with a girl that went vegetarian and only ate cheese quesadillas and didn't have the knowledge of needing other stuff in her diet. She then had to switch back to a meat-centric diet because she was literally fainting while on the job. I would say that she was an outlier compared to the public, but it does happen.

Had to come back and comment as I am eating it because it is so good... I've had such a bad sweet tooth lately, the chocolate crunch yogurt bowl finally knocked it out! I just added some crushed walnuts to my bowl as well and I get bites that taste like banana bread. Thank you for this recipe!
Tried the Spicy Garlic Noodles tonight. DELICIOUS! Came together quickly. I had to substitute the ramen for alkalized thin spaghetti, and since I haven't replenished my black vinegar I used white vinegar instead. Still great! Thanks Ethan. 😊
I personally find higher fat, moderately high protein, and lower carb works for me as far as being satiated and delivering the essential vitamins to my system. Eating plenty of fat made me lose body fat and killed my cravings for junk food. I got a lot stronger too!
That's cause carbs raise your insulin making it crash in 2 hours or so and making you hungry again. Protein and high saturated fat foods are satiating and very healthy for the body. Calling any meal "healthy" like the creator of this video did when the majority of the dish is noodles (mainly carbs) is ridiculous to say the least.
@@laurynassuliauskas167 he mentioned these meals are what work for him and it seems the main point here is to eat meals with fewer calories. carbs are perfectly fine for you as long as you don't eat a ton of refined carbs all the time
@@laurynassuliauskas167 There is nothing inherently unhealthy about carbs. For most people (which are not athletes), it's actually the most important macro if done right. If you're an athlete, you're gonna need to hit your protein needs first and maximise carb intake, leaving 10-20% of daily caloric intake for fat. Carbs are the best energy source, store water overall and increase muscle size by helping them retain more water = more strength. It's a shame carbs get such a bad rap nowadays. Also, if you want to maximise the value of your protein, your meal should consist for the majority of something else than protein. The body uses calorie for its energy needs first. After that, if it had the luxury, it will allocate to muscle building needs. If you eat 300 calories of protein, most will just be used for energy needs instead of muscle building
@@ilikecommenting6849 Thank you for this well-reasoned post. "It's a shame carbs get such a bad rap nowadays." I totally agree. The Church of No Carbing has evangelists all over the place.
These look really good. My go to low fat/high protein recipes are (1) channa masala (using fresh cut tomatoes at the end instead of a cooked tomato sauce) and (2) grapefruit, nut, and goat cheese salad with a dressing from the grapefruit juice.
I'm in the middle of a cut right now as well, I really needed this inspiration. Thank you, Ethan! I look forward to more videos like this. Btw, your garlic broccoli and chicken has been my go-to lunch for a while now.
Great meals, gonna have to try a couple of these. As a strength coach and former personal trainer, I really appreciate the disclaimer on "healthy" at the start. Everyone has different health goals, though this stuff overall looks like that it can fit into nearly anyone's dietary and lifestyle choices with only minor modification. Good stuff.
I’m on a cut too, but I do not eat meat, and I find it quite difficult to get a decent amount of protein on a low-ish amount of calories. Most vegetarian protein sources come with lots of carbs, so the calories add up quickly.

Out of all the sponsors in the countless RU-vid videos I've seen, these are the first I'm actually considering purchasing. Noodles have a special place in my heart...mostly in my arteries lol
The most important point here is, that we get used to high flavors, mostly from fat. When we wean ourselves off, you really don’t miss it. Just like alcohol, if you drop your consumption, you really don’t miss it…after a while.
This is exactly what I felt when I started losing weight! I wanted to keep eating the same foods I loved but would cut certain things to fit my caloric needs - i.e Chipotle with double meat but half rice, halal cart with almost no rice (still a ton of sauce tho 😅), chic fil a with just grilled meat, etc. It made me feel like I was cheating the system and kept me motivated. I'm also in a similar boat having gone from 220->167 @ 5'9 and am having a hard time dropping the last few pounds after all the holiday binging. Thanks Ethan and I'm excited to try these out!
Hey ethan, I don't know if you've heard of the Protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score, but part of it scores protein based on its digestibility, and its relevant because its how much of the protein you eat is actually absorbed. I have no idea how vite ramen scores here, the website says the noodles are supplemented with quinoa for protein, which to my knowledge is pretty good, but 20g of protein in quinoa =/= 20g of protein from a chicken. Probably doesn't make much of a different at the end of the day, but I know i was eating some foods like kellog's special K cereal which have a ton of protein on the label (and poor pdcaas score), and thinking i was getting enough protein.
Well its not like your body is absorbing Protein and checking where its from. Protein gets broken down to the amino acids and what is called ,,absorbed“ essentially means how matching are those aminos from the protein with the ones your body needs. So given something like soy isnt as matching as protein from a chicken breast but if u combine diffrent protein sources ( like the vite ramen with the ground turkey) there should be enough matching aminos for ur body to make use off. Shouldnt worry bout these things too much just enjoy some nudles
@@1999habib you're referring to protein completeness not protein digestibility the PDCAAS takes both into account. Soy is actually a complete protein, as well. you will straight up excrete in your feces more protein from a grain than from a chicken.
I have heard about it, but I don't worry about it for me and my goals. From what I know, there is some limited validity since we get protein from a lot of different sources in our diet. So even if a food has a lower digestibility score, if eaten with a complementary protein in a diet we get the full (or most of) the digestibility. In general, there are lot of things that I do that are less than optimal for muscle growth/fat loss from a scientific perspective, but just because something isn't optimal doesn't mean you can't get results you are happy with. For example, I only shoot for 120 g per day while cutting. A lot of people would say I should be eating 1g per lb or more, but I find it a strain on my lifestyle and foods that I like. That's why I mentioned in this video that health and fitness is highly individual! I'm not trying to be a body builder or fitness model so a lot of stuff may be better from a science perspective, but if I can get 80% of a result without the strain I'm all for it!
@@EthanChlebowski thats understandable, and I didnt expect it to matter for most people. I just thought I'd bring it up because of my own experiences with it.

Unless you're trying to increase body fat% (like if you're sub 10% BF or trying to increase body mass for power lifting) there's really no reason to "bulk" to put on muscle. It takes ~2800 calories to create 1 lb of muscle; if you want to put on 5 pounds of muscle this year you'll need ~14000 calories which is only ~40 calories a day; even if you were on PEDs or expecting noobie gains, 10lbs of muscle would require 100 calories a day. 50-100 calories is almost impossible to accurately track (you're probably eating +/- 150 calories of what you're tracking) , so you can just eat at maintenance calories and that would suffice for 5-10lbs of muscle in a year. There really isn't a realistic amount of muscle you could put on in a year that would require 200+ extra calories a day.
Don't listen to this Doucette fanboy mind-poison. If you want to gain serious strength and size you gotta commit to a bulk. Preferably a lean bulk (like 10% calorie surplus tops) but still, a bulk.
@@captainobscurity491 only if ur skinny and brand new to lifting. After you’ve got some skin in the game (couple consistent years) cutting and bulking for rest of life is foolish. I’ve tried both. Hey Ethan I noticed these Meals aren't exactly Blood Pressure friendly. I'm only 22 and have the unfortunate luck of having high blood pressure that runs in the family. I have to keep my sodium intake a day to around 1500 milligrams or less. Is there any chance you would be willing to do a video on lower sodium meals that still taste great?
Though I do not have any BP issues, I definitely agree that the sodium amount very quickly stood out to me. Honestly, since he adds his own pinches of salt, I suspect you could recreate these without them and probably cut the sodium in 1/3 if not more. Also, for the first dish especially, you can further reduce it by using low sodium variants for the sauces. Bet it still would taste amazing. Give it a shot and good luck!
Hey I know you posted this two months ago but I was hoping to offer a tip. If you have never tried it before, try using something called “lite salt” it’s half sodium chloride, half potassium chloride and it allows you to cut your salt in half. Potassium chloride normally can be kinda bitter but when it’s cut with have normal sodium chloride I seriously can’t tell the difference. The other thing I would suggest (that I haven’t tried yet) is something called MySalt. Instead of half and half it’s all potassium chloride, it contains no sodium. Normally all Potassium chloride would taste metallic, but supposedly they treat it with something called lysine, which hides the metallic taste
@@stevenarteaga1188 Just as a heads up to you and others, some people with blood pressure (and kidney) issues are super sensitive to potassium. I once watched a woman I worked with turn red (almost purple) after drinking a Gatorade. She actually needed medical attention before the day was over. Her reaction clearly isn't common, but it was a great reminder to me that potassium sensitivity is a real thing for some folks. My own father's BP spikes whenever he consumes too much potassium (pre-packaged 'lite' and 'low sodium' foods are habitual offenders), so it's something I've had to pick up on. Just a head's up. Most people are going to be fine, but for anyone in a similar position reading this in the future, I had to pass the info on.
Seriously have to agree with this commenter. I'm a nurse, and I'm 'salt sensitive', this sandwich has 30% more sodium than I consume in an entire day. GREAT recipes and ideas. and I sincerely appreciate you diving in and enjoying your cooking. And I do like the science behind the flavors, etc and I'm pretty good at modifying for salt on my own. Ethan for your own health, make a few adjustments. For a healthy individual with zero kidney or blood pressure issues should be less than 2300mg in a whole day; your sandwich alone just about half that. 1 teaspoon is 2325mg. PInches add up. And we can develop a taste tolerance for saltiness, (and sweetness ) which means we have to use more to get the same flavor. But, I can assure you cutting back, our taste habits can be dialed back. Your kidneys, heart and arteries will thank you when you hit middle age ...(lol, and that comes faster than you think!!).
Made a variation of your egg sandwiches: followed the turkey exactly, but I’ll add in some super greens, pickled onions (because, always yes), and for the sauce: I’ll take ketchup and mix a bit of worchestshire sauce and a pinch of brown sugar to get a tangy sauce. Pretty delightful.
I ordered your Vite Ramen package with the link when this video came out and my order just arrived! My wife and I LOVE the noodle dish- we make it all the time!
When it comes to Mayo subs, I love Karam's garlic sauce. It's half the calories of Mayo gram by gram, but it still has that same Mayo effect. It does add a garlic lemony flavour, but I often want that in what I'm eating. Also it's vegan if you care about that kind of thing. This kind of seems like and add, but it definitely changed the sandwich game for me lol.
Great video. I’ve been meaning to try that brand of ramen. This is my excuse! For the sandwich, I’d cook down some onion using water to add some unctuousness. I grow the onions in my garden, so one way I prep them for the winter is to cook them down and freeze them in ice cube trays. Then I put them in a bag and add them to my meals as needed. It really helps overcome some of that body I sometimes miss. Let’s be honest, I’d probably add it to the noodles as well. But not the yogurt! ;)
These are amazing, and so is your personality man. You are friendly, humble and creative. Thank you for these. I don't have money for the ingredients now but when I get a job I would love to cook so many things. Thank you
Can’t wait to try those noodles. The higher protein aspect for them will make it easier for me as well (need like 160g/day and don’t like eating way too much). Fantastic as always Ethan!
I lost 10 lbs recently without trying by not eating after dinner and never before 1pm the next day. Quitted cheese due to high cholesterol. Ate less rice, potatoes, & pasta (less carbohydrates). Easy! My BMI is now 23 and my skinny clothes from 10-15 years ago now fits.
Lo mein noodles are the way to go, my #1 as far as flavor, convenience and calories are concerned. In fact, I'm having it right now as I watch this lol
THANK YOU for the knowledge about Naked Noods! I love Ramen, and have read many packages and, until now, have seen that ramen is very high in sodium. For example, Hakubaku Authentic Ramen Noodles, which is offered by Amazon, has 1370 mg of sodium in 3.5 oz. of noodles without flavor. I am anxious to try it.
To increase the filling quality, throw in some carrots, (chopped julienne-style). It won't increase the calories noticeably, but will make the dish a lot more filling. Personally, I like to put onion in as well, (cut thinly and fried hard, so it caramelizes), and for variety you could reduce the meat once in a while and add a couple scrambled eggs instead.
Thanks for the fun recipes, Ethan! Found your channel awhile ago when you made the fries to one-up Adam Ragusea. Since that video, I have watched your channel much more. I love the diversity in your food choices and the ease of making each recipe. Keep it up!
Just got done making the noodle dish. Extremely tasty for how easy it is to make and how diet friendly it is! I split the yield into thirds and found that to be a more than filling meal. Thanks for the awesome recipe, Ethan! I really appreciate the work you put into these recipes and videos. 😄
For better greek yogurt bowls, get plain Greek Yogurt and mix in a scoop of your favorite whey protein powder for flavor! This adds extra protein while also giving you the option to pick what flavor you are feeling for that day.
Getting to this video a bit late but wanted to say "Congratulations" on the weight loss and making the change. It is not easy. I too am 5'6" and my max weight was 240lbs. I made the spicy garlic noodles tonight and it was killer! One of the best things I ever made. I did do a couple differences. I couldn't find black vinegar, so I used white rice vinegar. I also used white sesame seeds instead of black. Also, I used just regular ramen noodles. But man it was so freaking good!
thanks for introducing me to vite ramen. they are so delicious and a perfect replacement for the top ramen you find at costco. cost is much more pricey; comes to like $2.50 a brick as opposed to 25 cents, but the protein content is so worth it. it's nice when the carb source in the meal also has 23g protein; then you add a protein source on top of that and its great. will def be buying more.
Thank you! Calling any carb filled recipe "healthy" is ridiculous and should be pointed out so people stop listening to these lies and actually get their diet on track.
I was looking for a protein-dense ramen. I was just shoving in a ton of chicken breast, but 23g for just the noodles is awesome. Definitely gonna try out Naked Noods
Noodles aren't healthy. The protein part is nice but noodles are mainly carbs which is bad for you. So when you eat noodles you will get a bit of protein but way way more carbs which as a result will raise your insulin level up and with insulin up your body will store all that food you just ate as fat. I love noodles but they just aren't actually healthy. It's just a lie.

Just made the Spicy Garlic Noodles tonight. They were so good! (I doubled the meat & veggies and bumped the sauce up by about 50% to split it between 3 people. I know that changes the noodle to other stuff ratio and the nutrition a little. But it turned out perfect!)
Awsome!! I was looking for recipes which I could follow using a Wok as I just have bought one. The problem is that Wok cooking typically uses a ton of oil, which is a hazard for those following a fitness lifestyle. Many other videos here don’t focus on weight loss/fitness in terms of the amount of oil used in Wok cooking. But your video totally answered all my ‘Wok questions’, with the added bonus of a skillet included, (a utensil I also happen to have but never use because of the fat/oil issue). Your recipes are incredible, especially the stir-fry, where you are kind enough to show exactly how much fat to add and of what sort!!, I can’t thank you enough. I don’t know if you meant to, but you also indicated how best to protect the Wok seasoning to keep it non-stick, by being careful when to add the oil, as well as removing the heat from the Wok before adding the damp noodles. You should do more of this stuff, as there is a need for Asian Wok style cooking recipes targeted at fitness/ body building and weight loss (in my view). I would buy your book for sure!! All the best. 🙂
It’s satisfying to see you actually enjoy your meal, licking your fingers and those faces 😂 when I’m starving I practically inhale my dish lol. Those noodles looked so good
