Especially since most hobbyists just get figures to display them on a shelf... I like to at least pose my figures and and transform them every once in a while.
The segment of you and your sibling having fun playing with these was wholesome! And very nostalgic for me. My brother, cousin, and I used to get toys at Dollar Tree here in USA and play with them, and that segment reminded me of those times!
I bet the people designing the mechanics are really smart and could do a lot with proper materials, but production costs prevent them from making good toys.
I have some of the “official” versions of these dudes, I got them from a Cracker Barrel. Believe it or not, there are five of them, and they can combine.
it's weird how as humans we're actually really good at a sort of echolocation skill. When you tapped the plastic i could instantly tell how thick and how dense it was. The answer was not thick and not dense at all.
Tbh, Nerf Gun Transformers sounds like a absolutely brilliant idea from a marketing perspective, like imagine haves nerf blaster that can transform into the likes of Megatron, Shockwave, and Sixshot. Two in one toys!
I used to love bootleg transformers from my local dollar stores and value outlets. We were broke so they were easier to afford, but another bonus was that since they usually had no names or any lore you could just name them yourself and make up your own stories about them. It was why as a kid I'd go out of my way to get these kinds of toys sometimes.
This is the kind of toy my parents would've bought me and my brothers back in the day and we would play it for months on end cause it accomplishes two things young boys like transforming robots and guns. Pretty fun all in all
I bought these from Dollarama a while back, and they are equal amounts terrible and fun. I love these things. Robot mode isn't the greatest, but the gun mode actually functions and doesn't look half bad. I slammed that like button when I saw that you did a review on these 😂
I know this comment is a year late, but I just remembered that I own the purple one of these. It doesn’t pose great, but the transformation is really fun and clever. The only major problem is that the shoulder ball joints are incredibly loose. The gun works pretty well, the instructions are alright, and for $4 CAD it’s not the worst thing. Basically if it just was made of slightly better material, it could be an unironically fantastic toy.
We need this, but like done by Hasbro with the actual transformers team and not the buck fifty store trying to figure out if they should do firearm or deformation so they just make firearm deformation.
As someone who loved Weijiang once said, if Hasbro and Takara made good toys, we would not need 3rd party companies. They were here to improve and give us what Hasbro did not have the effort or budget to do. Too bad most are illegal, and even oversized upscales KOs that can be considered original molds (like Weijiang's MPM scales) or 100% originals from ones like UT, AAT, DX9, and more can get designers in legal trouble (I think Toyworld faced a similar fate as Weijiang, or they shut themselves down to avoid similar fates) just for exercising the right to creativity.
@@cutercills9x9productions9 if by “exercising the right to creativity” you mean profiting off of designs made and owned by different companies then sure
Ok so I saw something similar to this at Cracker Barrel once, but it looked a lot better than this, and it was like $15 so it seemed better quality. ( for those who don't know what Cracker Barrel is, it is a American Southern restaurant/shop.)
I think you've inadvertently just created your best video review lol. That was good fun, especially the shoot out at the end! Also, your sis is quite pretty so that's nice too x
I've got the purple one of these. Yeah, it feels cheap, but that's kind of appropriate considering that it *is* cheap. It's $4 for a large transforming toy that's also a foam dart launcher. I've bought an actual Nerf launcher at Dollarama for the same price and there isn't much of a difference in quality between the two. As a transforming figure it's clearly not on the level of a Generations or Studio Series, but considering that it's less than a tenth of the price one of those of a similar size would have cost that's not a big deal. It does have a pretty good transformation, though, and the robot mode has nearly all the most important points of articulation (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees; all that it's missing is a turning head.)
I remember Bootleg/KO Hunting in the early 00s. We had a Flea Market that was mostly populated by the local Hmong population, that would "import" toys and junk from China when they would visit relatives, and then sell that stuff at the Flea Market. It was an absolute Treasure Trove of KO Toy goodness!
I have all but the green one. They're all terrible. But, as a dart gun they aren't that bad. They're some kind of KO of a gun combiner, some of these even have the integrated combiner parts but they're missing a 5th member.
I remember seeing some knockoff bayverse dinobot combiner i didn't even touch it and i felt that it was either really wobly or really weak plastic from the look alone
There's a semi official original version of this which is 5 dinosaurs which turn into guns and then can combine into a giant robot and they actually work
There is a variant of these sold at Cracker Barrels that combine. They are definitely bootlegs but the plastic isn’t atrocious. But the colors and paint are.
Great FPS-like NERF war footage at the end! As for the knockoff robot modes - “Orange” is OK, with it’s posability. They are large robots - I would use them as impromptu “Legislator”-bots. If nothing else, they are respectable NERF guns.
if these are based off what I think they are, the originals were made from much stronger plastic, though it still felt off but it could handle more strain
I will never understand why people complain so much about bootleg toys. It's not like they're trying to sell you these at premium price. Also, "wow this feels so cheap"... Well you paid less than a dollar for it lmao
HAHAHA I bought one of those for myself and the got another for my friend for Christmas back in 2021. I think he reviewed it on his channel and I am sure he was mentally cursing me out. I gave him the Dollarama dinobot combiner last year.
Hey bro, idk if you’re interested in getting another movie Devastator but Black Mamba made an Oversized version of the Studio Series named “Mechanical Alliance” and I got all 8 for Christmas and they’re absolutely amazing! The die cast, more accurate paint apps (especially on Scavenger and Overload) and Hightower got major improvements along with Rampage and Scrapmetal. Mixmaster looks practically like a Masterpiece, the paint job is like grade 5, you’r Miss take him for a die cast of the cement mixer. Long Haul and Scavenger scale more accurately with the studio series line (you can recreate the Shanghai scene with Demolsihor) and Scrapper has a mace for a hand with chain and feels better quality. I think you should get them! Plus there’s word that an upgrade kit is under way so this is potentially the biggest and best Devastator for the price and quality. I highly recommend you check out ShowZStore or other websites for the first four wave since those were released back in 2020-2021. The second wave of course were released all last year.
Sad part… Hasbro could do official Nerf transformers. The nerf guns even have names that can be transformers names, like Stryfe, Rapidstrike, Jolt…. Etc
There is a brand of "knockoff" nerf guns they sell at walmart, my fiance bought me a 2 pack for christmas. They have never regretted buying me anything more, as the guns shoot LUDICROUSLY hard. Turns out some of the knockoff dart guns are actually /better?/
I've reviewed versions of these molds, my ones had die-cast parts on, but as questionable quality as yours, ellegedly, these are part of a Combiner set?
meanwhile Hasbro has yet to make a transforming Megatron figure that shoots Nerf darts, the old Classics Megatron figure has that Nerf gun-like design but sadly cannot fire projectiles.
