I am absolutely FLOORED by the amount of people in these comments who don't even relatively understand the joke he made about millennials. Please read this before losing your mind over nothing lol: The joke is that Millennials are cool, but they ALWAYS act like they experienced things that we (Gen Z) haven't, when we literally HAVE. For example VHS tapes or wall phones. A vast majority of us know what those are, and we used them growing up too. along with nearly everything else millennials experienced. We're a short generation apart, you have to wait a few decades before talking about your childhood experiences like the younger generation doesn't get it lol. I've seen this SO much of that nonsense from millennials in stand up comedy and RU-vid bits, and it's so cringe. And the fact that even some Baby boomers and socially challenged Gen Z's are commenting with steam coming out of their ears without realizing that the joke is defending you...May god help us all because holy crap 😂some of y'all have never heard of sarcasm and by god it shows.
@@papermelon as much as I like the real gear line, I still have a soft spot for the amarda laserbeak which I have and it still works (it turns into a video camera with sounds)
ill be the guy and say that The R lineup is a mirrorless lineup , its not a DSLR , Dslr stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex that requires a mirror assembly - even Sony's dslt isnt a dslr.
Yep, this is true. I just figured it wasn’t worth explaining the difference in the video since general audiences best understand the wide use of the term dslr. Thanks for sharing!
@@papermelon oh i see , no problem then . I can see why you use the term dslr that way then , most of my friends still call any big black camera a dslr.
These are amazing, I love how they actually put robots in disguise actually as robots our daily items, kinda daily items. Honestly these things are alien, I’m gonna be surprised if it doesn’t go above 4 or 8k, amazing videos Papermelon, love the shorts and vids, amazing dude 😊🎉
I'm from Venezuela and for some reason a news outlet in here actually thought the Optimus Canon figure was an actual camera that worked and transformed instead of a toy xDDD
@@papermelon lmao i can believe it. Most collectors complain over nothing basically. I get the complaints with yellowing, translucent plastic, and crappy articulation. But i just cant get the complaints with partsforming. If the figure is solid, fun transformation, good articulation, then is partsforming REALLY a bad thing? People praise Netflix Bumblebee, and for good reason, but people have to be all like "oh no the back of the car comes off for transformation therefore the figure isnt top tier" like what the hell? Sorry for the little rant and long comment
Man, those Real Gear guys are such a core memory! I never got to own them, but I WANTED them so bad after seeing the movie and seeing those on Walmart shelves!
@@papermelon in your short about the voyager class Primal and I asked you how to get the one and you said it was horribly stocked and you said that it would be a good idea to just buy the leader class one
I got both zoom out 25x and canon Optimus prime a while back. They're both amazing. Especially the prime figure, love the simple complexity and look. Also mine is completely tight jointed, NO loose parts. Only QC issue is nub marks on the shoulders and hands. But as a model kit builder I know how hard it is to remove them without paint. Overall, you got a bad copy 😅 Just realized zoom out has his chest flap missing. Sad times 😢
the original Refraktor lineup was absolutely insane! and some of the third party versions of them are even more insane with how closely they can resemble an actual camera. I believe Masterpiece and then Perfect Effects has two varieties. one with all three different colors and then a second, more inconspicuous design where they're all the same color so the entire camera design looks nearly flawless. if you get a chance and haven't gotten your hands on it yet, I highly recommend those versions of the Refraktor/Reflektor lineup. Also, not to be that guy, but if I recall correctly the Refraktor toy was based around a concept from one of the earlier transformers shows (I think either Armada or even the OG english series). three decepticon triplets who turned into a human-sized camera, much in the same way that Soundwave turned into a boombox, and used for surveillance or covert assassination (the camera portion fired a laser if memory serves correctly).
Refraktor as we know him (the purple camera bot) is just how he appeared in the G1 cartoon. He was normally seen in a group of 3 or more. Though the intention was there was only a single individual who just could create copies of himself, but every scene that was meant to show that got deleted. He was often used by other Decepticons to spy on the autobots. The one where they are different colors was closer to what the toy looked like.
I used to have Zoom Out, he's so cool! I loved all the Real Gear figures, wanted the controller figure. Did have the Binocular one and he was my most favorite.
Ah I love both of those guys! The controller was my first ever transformer I bought when I was 8. He’s still my most sentimental and meaningful toy in the collection
the whole "disguising as everyday objects" is part of why i love the micro change parts of the G1 line just as much as the diaclone parts. i love how bumblebee originally turned into a toy car.
DUDE I just looked that up, I forgot that thing existed! I saw some pictures of it in a toy book when I was like 10, and I wanted it SO badly. I might need to pick one up.
@@papermelonyou should look into tfc photron, it’s a third party reflector that turns into a realistic camera and even comes with a. Strap to wear it around ur neck, pretty cool figure imo
I really liked this video, thank you for sharing it. I'm not going to lie, i enjoy that collector's edition refraktor a lot because i feel the bots are individualized and remind me of the toy I had when younger. I understand its not for everyone. I also have a scrapface but not enough to build a third camera. 😅
The Real Gear line is fun. For a while, though, TFC's Photron was my Reflector of choice for ages. He's 3rd party, but he's a really good realistic looking camera bot.
I never realised that there are people now whom are nostalgic about, from my view, new Transformer toys. I am an ‘80s kid and grew up with the old Transformers. Still love them to this day. Keep up collecting your childhood man!
Hmm, they should come out with new versions of some of the camera ones that actually can function as a camera, since nowadays it's possible to have small cameras that can take pictures and record video, and they do have real display screens that small, it would be an awesome updated version of them with fun picture taking features.
I honestly don't understand why MPG Raiden and Legacy Core Volcanicus are treated so leniantly. Volcanicus is a core class combiner which is pretty ambitious but a. nobody asked for this and b. being core class doesn't mean it has an excuse to suck. Yay! Hasbro made a team of six triple changers that compromised all 3 modes isntead of 1! And MPG... at that price man this stuff just isn't acceptable. These things cost an arm and a leg and have breaking joints and a combine mode that just... Takara needs to take some notes from 3p in this department. Ik the MPG simps always say Moon Studio Raiden is very flawed but like it's WAYY better than what Takara gave us and the combine mode doesn't look like it's from a 2006 Chug release.
This is so true for both of these sets 😭 Core volcanicus boils my blood by how everyone’s knee jerk response is “grow up, they’re $10 core class figures, what did you expect?” UM MAYBE A TOY THAT GETS ANY OF ITS 3 modes right?? 😂😂 buying all of the Dinobots for that set will run you the cost of a commander class figure. I want anyone to look me in the eye and tell me that isn’t the most outrageous thing Hasbro has ever done.
As a Transformers fan and a Photographer, all of these are THE BEST I really want that R5 Transformer 😂 (Which can be a Reflector, Optimus Prime or Nemesis Prime :) )
I just learned about the Real Gear Robots stuff last week, when I bought a Decepticon watch named Meantime at a local convention. I also have the better version of seige Refraktor, with all the extra accessories. I love these decepticons!
To be fair, the original Takara toy that would become Soundwave was a working micro-cassette player. like, not completely out of the question to have a working camera in it.
Small thing, but I absolutely love the made up lore kid you gave to the toys. It really brings me back to being a kid and coming up with elaborate stories with all my toys, and it's fun seeing a glimpse into other people's experiences.
God Im old. Watching this the entire time thinking "look how they massacred my boy." Reflector the Combiner that this gray and purple lump is based on had a lot more charm. Admittedly they were much simpler, but at least they all got their own armor color and head sculpts. (AND THEIR OWN FUCKIN NAMES)
Dude I had the same backstory for Photon T34- he was a Decepticon turned Autobot that helped spy on teh Decepticons. Also, mine was grey instead of black
refractor aka reflector is a decepticon trio from the original g1 tv series and the reason why they had the audacity to say collect three of the same figure is because in the show their were 3 bots that formed a camera which was a cool thought but kinda a cash grab imo but anyways nerd point over xD that canon optimus prime is super cool
let's be honest with how small tech has gotten these days, you could probably make a working transformers camera, would be expensive, but it's possible
Refraktor is atually 'way' cool. I'm confident someone's already mentioned this, but the 'earth mode' version is a head nod to the original 1983 'Reflector' 'Microchange' Transformer from G1 (first appearance, Season 1). Cool! Great vids, man - new Subscriber. Cheers! \m/, (*o*) ,\m/
This reminds me of my childhood. When a friend comes over to your house, then you get all of your "super sick toys" out and basically do a show and tell session to impress your friend....... Well, color me impressed 👏 😅.
I got the delorean and ghosbuster car transformers and I LOVE them, might pick up the jurassic park jeep one with the Dennis Nedry design as a robot. Skipped the other jurassic park, top gun and gi joe ones. Would love a A-team, knightrider, turtle car lol loving the collab ones though, even if i dont buy them. Great ideas.
Just following up, you might be interested to know that I got my Jurassic park Dennis Nedry collaboration set in the mail yesterday, and it’s easily my favorite collaborative Tf set ever lol. It turned out super fun. I’d highly recommend it if you haven’t gone for it yet.
@@papermelon great info I'll probably end up getting it. Also seen the new Gi Joe soundwave figure, which made me sad that the line comes with that much kibble. No Joe for me.
@@transformerstuff7029 Yeah, hasbro has massively failed with all of their Gi Joe collabs for me. the new bumblebee is one of the worst figures I've ever bought, and that's saying something lol. I bought him on a steep discount and still regret it. Soundwave looks a little cooler, but I can already tell he's an oversized, hollow, poorly painted joke just like Gi Joe Megatron. So it's nice to see some of their collaborations get it right (Jurassic Park)
@@papermelon " I bought him on a steep discount and still regret it. " LMAO I thought about it but decided I am wasting enough space on figures I kinda dislike.........oh how about the x-men blackbird thing?! Any thoughts on that? I hear its kinda wonky, which put me off from getting it. But I was born in 86, so x-men is totally my jam hahaha
@@transformerstuff7029 I don't have that crossover, but I've considered it. He looks pretty solid. If you're a sucker for X-Men I'd say you've gotta go for it. Let me know how it is if you do!
The reason people expected the Prime Camera to 'work' was because it looked like it was going to be in the same line as the functional gear items like the Mp3 Soundwave/blaster, the mouse Grimlock/Tripticon and USB stick Ravage. More so with that price. P.s. The MP3 Soundblaster is still one of my favorite figures I own even if the mp3 part no longer works.
I want a transformer that is functional. I'll bet it's possible with how small our tech is getting. The radio transformer, build a simple am/fm radio, a tiny speaker and an audio out so you could hook it up to better speakers, then for a camera just a tiny phone sized camera, a button for pics and an mico SD card slot- could probably even work in a tiny preview screen. And they could really upcharge for building in those features. And if they need to, they could make them a bit larger than normal to fit the tech in. I might just know what a future hobby project is going to be! Mod a transformer and make it functional- or maybe just design my own knockoff that works! Nifty collection, I didn't know these guys existed :D
The only thing that would make this video better would be a clip featuring Michael Bay transforming Optimus Prime from his truck mode into a Canon SL/R camera! They have an ability to store excess parts in a separate dimension when shifting from one transformation to another. Transforming into a camera would require a major amount of excess parts storage! 😂🤣🤪🙃👍👍
Hey..... It's not that a functional transformer camera is impossible. It's just never going to be worth the money. But they can make a literal button into a camera. They can definitely make a transformer camera
I unironically had VHS, and a camcorder like the one shown in the video, I was born in 2000. And yes, people still assume I don’t know what they are or how they work
I have the G1 you color of the Siege Reflectors, and it's an awesome set to me. I've only got one of the normal Siege Reflector, but I plan to change that later.
I fucking loved my old Zoom Out and Photon figures. I had a tonne of those every day object figures. Think it was just the handheld console I didn’t have out of that line
One thing i never understood is, how do you display Transformers toys: robot or alt mode? What's the point of a "transformer" if the only thing you ever get to see is one mode? And if you DO occasionally change the display, then you are most def playing with your toys lol
Honestly, wish there was a functioning version of the real gear transformers or the canon camera. (not necessarily for all the functions but just as an electronic point-and-click camera)
I had my own headcannon for transformers that was made from a random collection of figures and because I didn't have a proper soundwave figure I just used my Zoom Out 25x and pretended he was soundwave
2007? I graduated high school in 2007, how the fudge are they older then me? I know nothing about this, RU-vid just recommended this out of nowhere, I've been watching nothing but Lego photography and K-pop music videos.
kinda reminds me of something that star wars figures had 20 ish years ago.. where you would buy 1 figure and get a random piece of a droid with it, so you had to buy multiple figures to get all the parts to build a droid that dint get sold seperate
I feel like takara doesn't need to make EVERYTHING optimus prime... Looks like I'm saving money to get a 3d printer, cause I have some ideas on what to make this guy... EDIT!!: Ok, looking at the head, while yes, it is very prime-y, It does also have some custom stuff... maybe I could simply repaint it...?
We had Soundwave as a functioning MP3 player, Prime as a functioning iPad dock, Rumble and Frenzy as functioning earphones, Ravage as a functioning USB drive and Trypticon as a functioning mouse... but yet we can't do any of this with a camera.
Those are all from the same toyline 16 years ago lol, and not at all the same level of tech as a functioning camera. Some people are impossible to please 🤦♂️.
