I have another fun fact. Remember when himmel puts ring on frieren hand, you can see that a cloak tower in the middle right. It symbolises the only thing that stands between them is time.😭😭😭

This exam was different than what I thought it was going to be. Much less fighting and more on strategy. Frieren being able to totally hid her mana and be still enough for the Stille to not "see" her was great. Really like all the teams and the battles going on now.

Ehre (the one fighting Fern) is the granddaughter of the first, first-class mage Lernen. When she says it feels like she's fighting her grandfather, she isn't exactly casting shade.

Wirbel actually would destroy Fern though, as long as he didn't get sniped. Since you're ahead, I'm guessing you've figured that out. They talk tough because they are desperately trying NOT to kill anyone. Looking back, that's the best part of this episode. Even Ubel has a little self-restraint.

@@hitachiuchihamagicwand2776 Because unlike Frieren, Fern has no counter to Sorganeil, his binding spell which binds anything he sees. And since Fern is a mid-long range combatant, her entire body will always remain in his sight, unlike a melee that can get in his face/too close for him to see all of his attacker for the spell to work. That spell is basically a counter to any ranged combatant lacking resistance to binding magic. AFAIK, she has none. Maybe there are things she could do to mitigate this, like kick up dust around herself and blind fire at him, but she'd have to already know about the ability beforehand.

@@djx7134 Agreed. Fern is going to eventually be more capable, but she just doesn't have the skillset for this matchup yet. That's one of the major points presented during this arc: sometimes the stronger mage just has a bad match-up (i.e. cutting hair). It's ultra-advanced rock-paper-scissor.

Ehre is more ignorant than cocky IMO lol. Can't wait for you to watch next ep with the group battle. I really like Wirbel and Ubel so them going at it was fun. This show has such amazing music that fits perfectly with the scenes for the episodes.

These young mages now (in the show) are like Gen Z. They think they are the shit and that they're superior to every other generation that came before them. But they really don't know shit about the real world and lack the experience that makes us wise. The difference with Fern is that she was taught by Frieren, who has been around for centuries. Frieren (and Heiter) taught Fern to be kind to people, not to abuse her magic (by killing/harming/robbing other people). Basically Fern was taught to respect magic. The other young people in this show have no respect for magic. You even see the huge disconnect between Denken and the young people. Denken (the Imperial Mage) can identify with both Frieren and Fern, because he has the experience to observe people and situations. This anime really is a reflection of today's society.

Yeah always like it when the young ones talk a big game not knowing the'yre up against OP characters. Wirbel fighting against demon remnants but Frieren defeated the Demon King. The male examiners are also full of themselves. They always make affirmations that turn out to be wrong.

One more thought on the mages in this anime and how they relate to us: most of the mages have a goal for becoming a mage: They want to get stronger so they beat or obtain X. Frieren doesn't have that aspiration. Her favorite spell is the one to create a field of flowers. The other mages (besides Fern) can't relate to that. They lack the true purpose that drives Frieren and Fern: they use magic to help other people who are in need. They act selflessly and that makes them more powerful than any of the other mages in this show. Because love always defeats hate in the end. Or at least, that's the message we should takeaway from this anime. (and most other fantasy stories)

Nah, Frieren doesn't care much about helping people. She does it to get more "useless" spells. She also doesn't mind if it doesn't cost her much (like if they bump into someone on the road whom they can easily help, she''ll just do it), but she's not one to go out of her way. Fern is the one who wants to save everyone, and she has to twist Frieren's arm to get Frieren on board. Also, the strongest mage (by far) only cares about powerful magic (or so she says ...). The real message, if there is one, is to appreciate the people in your life as well as the limited time you have. It's not demanding that everyone be as saintly as Himmel.

@@djx7134 I would argue that traveling with Fern has changed Frieren. There was an episode when Stark asked Frieren, "can't you use magic to float our way across?" Frieren responded, "that doesn't help the travelers that come after us." They were also very quick to help the village that were all asleep. Frieren could've said, "that's not my problem," and be on her merry way.

@@justinchan6043 Sure, to some extent. Most of her character development happened between episodes 1 & 2, but from 3 onward she still changed noticeably. And yet, in the most recent episode, she still decided against helping that old lady who was struggling right in front of her. There are valid reasons against helping, First, her hands were full, though we know she doesn't really need them for such an easy feat of telekinesis. Second, not everyone likes receiving unrequested assistance. Third, picking up some oranges is really easy, though maybe not as easy for elderly folk. But she could've done what Wirbel did, and she decided not to help. Tbh, I think Wirbel was sort of out of line for chastising her about that. I probably wouldn't have helped either. Some people would get really embarrassed by that.
