No money, no job, no vehicle in her name, minimal friend base because she moved, etc, all because she believed the man had her best interest at heart. In the inverse, I've also had clients with poor abusers who create dependence the opposite way; stealing, refusing to work, not paying for anything, etc. In the end, the abusers goal is to make it so that it is extremely difficult for the other person to leave even when the decide they want to do so.
