I just wanted to say thanks - after watching this video I ditched my John Doe Ramblers and bought the Sidi Adv2. My future ankles want to buy you a beer sometime.
I just went down on the street and the bike fell on my lower leg. Was wearing Alpine star Belize lower adventure boots and the impact was taken near the top of the boot. Got up and was able to ride home and leg started swelling went to ER about 4 hours later. Nothing broken but bruised pretty bad and doc said elevate and ice and compression wrap for at least 3 days. Was lucky I had invested in boots just wish I would of gone further and bought Alpines motocross full length boots for the street. The crazy thing is I was about to wear my Merrell hiking boots because it was warm out. I kept hearing a voice say atgatt from my msf course.
Ive got those Sidi boots and they are so comfortable, that and knowing they are great in an accident makes me love them even more! great vid cheers! PS Silicon lube stops the squeaking.
I've got that exact pair of TCX's - I can confirm everyone hears me coming from round the corner. I've tried squiring all kinds of lubricant in that plastic support mechanism, nothing helps for more than 5 minutes! Glad to see you're on the mend!
They great. So comfortable. Had my current sspeed gortex ones about 4 years and love them. Had the standard waterproof ones before and found they leaked after a year or so.
Adventure bike riders often brake an ankle when they experience a tip over and the aluminum saddlebags crush their ankle due to normal ADV boots that have no ankle protection.
Thank you for this video. I've been looking for a new pair of m/cycle boots. You've expertly explained the vital need for ankle protection. Sidi Adventure 2 it is then 👍
Thanks for doing this video. Keep 'em coming. You have excellent presentation! An appealing voice , very concise and to the point without waffling like so many youtubers.
Wise words for sure. Last year I was rear-ended at a roundabout; even though it was a low speed ´off´ and I was wearing boots, I was still hobbling around for a month afterwards....I shudder to think what would have happened if I hadn´t been wearing the boots.....
love my Sidi adventure 2 boots, they give me the same confidence as my Sidi crossfire 2 i wore for green laning, i wouldn't wear the adventure 2 for green laning but i would wear the crossfire for everyday riding
Yeah I didn’t go for full mx boots incase I didn’t enjoy it. The adventures did the job not sure wearing my boots would have been any different. One break was above the boots and the other three were from torsion.
TBH I judge a pair of boots by how easy they are to get on and off, how comfy they are to ride in and how comfy they are to walk a fair distance in. Fair do's with off-roading and racing that's a very high risk hobby but on the road chances are it won't be just your legs that are damaged so you either go full safety gear which is uncomfortable or go with what you feel good wearing. Having an accident will always carry a hindsight wish. Good well presented video mate. :)
Agreed. It’s all relative. The most protective tends not to be the most comfortable. That’s why I wear adv / touring boots rather than full race boots. With that said the anti torsion doesn’t impact comfort in the slightest. Those tcxs and the sidi adventures are both incredibly comfortable and I’d happily walk a few miles in them. I do take into account protection in all kit. Two of my jackets I upgraded the armour in as I found them comfortable but the standard armour wasn’t great. Thanks.
Fortnine has a video up with which body parts are most often injured in motorcycle accidents, worth a watch, you'll be surprised and maybe more likely to wear motorcross boots all the time.
Way back when I first drove a forklift we were told to keep the forks down near the floor when travelling, but then a good few years later i had to go do a refresher for insurance purposes and was told to keep them higher and pointed up, which sound more dangerous until it was explained to me that stabbing a fork into someone's knee pr lower leg is preferable to their ankle because knees are much easier to rebuild successfully than ankles are. haven't been tested on one for years so may have changed again but it illustrates your point i think.
I got Richa blade race/road boots all in black (dont like racey colours) cause I dont wanna stand out when going to coffee shop and walking around town to shop.
Sidi need to employ you at their advertising department because you just sold me the expensive sidi boots and not the cheaper other brands I was looking at.
Yeah everyone raves about them. I wouldn’t wear them without that protective insert they do. Not a criticism against Daytona. It I wouldn’t wear any boot without torsion protection be it on road or on lanes.
