Confession: I'm an old head who was a C Webb era Kings fan. After Shaq & Kobe eliminated them from the playoffs in '02, I quit watching basketball for a whole season.
After the suns got screwed by Robert Horry in 2007, I stopped watching basketball until 2010, so I can relate. It sucks knowing that you could've and should've won a series and a championship but didn't. After we got beat by the Lakers, I never really got back into it because we were horrible for 10 years, but I've gone back to it ever since we went 8-0 in the bubble.
I don't know if this is a confession, but the reason I became a Bobcats/Hornets fan is kinda stupid. Basically I bought NBA live 2005 because of Pau Gasol (I'm from Spain) and looking through the rosters I saw that the Bobcats had a lot of cap space. From that point on I always chose them on every game and eventually I started watching as much games as I could. Been miserable ever since
Haha hang in there man. I'm a heat fan myself but I lived in Charlotte for a couple years, and the year the bobcats became a team we got season tickets. It was fun and all but man.. that team was rough lol. Their "star" player was gerald wallace lol
I can relate with that confession from the Warriors fan. I think a lot of it is just getting older and understanding the game more. I didnt pay attention to trades/free agency until the Warriors traded for Steven Jackson. I wanted the Warriors to keep Monta Ellis over Steph mostly because I didnt watch Steph in college. First people I actually watched most of their games from college to the league were Anthony Davis and Draymond
I was at a point where I thought my understanding of the game was getting to a decently higher level. But 4 years of coaching later and there's still as many questions as answers; is this the best strategy for the personel, which plays would get these guys the best looks, which lineups should be on the court to end games, ect.
Determining how to schedule and run practices was always my issue. Although we only had the head coach and myself one assistant, i imagine this would have been easier and better had we had two or three more people.
@@undergrounddojokeyboardcag701 oh yeah. We ran a group of 3 coaches with an A and B team. So we ran everything together and then with the last 30 minutes we split off the A and B teams for team time
That 2-3 year comment hit hard... living on my own, working 48 hours a week, get home at 12am. Very different from living at home, just going to school and watching all the basketball I can. Doesn't make me any less interested in what's going on, but I miss being able to actually watch with my own eyes and form my own opinion on these younger dudes and my old favorite players decline.
My confession is that I was always fascinated by Sacramento Kings roster. And I was always rooting for them to reach the playoffs. Imagine years of suffering... But that died when they gave up on Haliburton...
Sorry bud, but you have absolutely no basketball knowledge if you thought haliburton was the answer LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not even cousins could get them to a playoffs 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Kenny I’ve been watching you since I was in 7th grade, now It’s been almost 2 years since I graduated from high school and I still kensistenly watch all your vids across all channels. Your content has got me through a lot, thanks for being there and keep going bro. Love you man
I got a few confessions. 1. I'm a fan of a lot of teams. I have 4 different categories of teams. teams I dont like (Spurs, lakers, nets), teams I respect but don't have too much of an opinion on(rockets, jazz, 76ers), teams I like (Raptors, Suns, Grizzlies), And the three teams I stan for no matter what they do (Blazers, Celtics, and Pistons) 2. I will find random players to stan if I either like their story or playstyles. Players like Ben Wallace, Scottie Barnes, Isiah Stewart and Ja Morant. 3. I dont like teams nearly as much if they got most of their team from free agency(not much of a confession since this is a very common thing)
About learning the X’s and O’s just by watching the game, I feel like the average fan can watch all the games in the world and only learn so much that way. There’s actual players on the court who struggle to grasp their respective defenses/offenses despite dedicating far more time and effort into understanding the game so I don’t expect fans (whose opinions are often based on having zero context since they’re not the ones on the court) to TRULY understand what’s going on just by watching the games. That’s what makes it absurd when people go on Twitter and Reddit throwing around these opinions when they actually have absolutely zero idea.
Yup, and that's how we know Steve Kerr is great. He can make a whole team understand it. The movement, position, timing, etc. His style is like "Total Football" in Soccer. A style used by Nederland long ago where a play/tactic/strategy is always on whether a player have the ball or not. Even if they have the ball, the must do specific thing in the tactic, not to feel the urge of instinct to just play by themselves. Even if they don't have the ball, they must move according to the tactic to make it easier for their teammates who have it, either be the decoy or actually searching for space & trust their teammates to find them when the opportunity to score present. Not just standing in rest and let the one who has the ball play by themselves. The same for defense.
5:41 I felt that. I call my college sports games play by play. This shit is harder than it seems , like I understand the game of basketball. I get good defense & bad defense. But while I’m calling the game live, I be kinda confused. Maybe since it’s my first year doing it, hopefully I get better as time goes on
Kenny im a fan of your channel since a year a go, im from Py, South America and i really apreacciate your videos; i learn a lot about the NBA, entertain and also learn english. So much love for you man
I’ll let mine fly. I started watching basketball HIGHLIGHTS in 2016 here and there because I thought Steph Curry being Steph Curry is the most fascinating thing ever. Since then I’ve come to enjoy players more than a team itself but I do support the Warriors the most. I am a huge fan of Steph but I LOVE watching LeBron, Luka, Giannis, Embiid, Jokic, Ja. The list goes on. I’m more of a fan of basketball and can’t wait for the Enjoy Basketball merch because I don’t understand why people just can’t ENJOY BASKETBALL.
I should state that I work in the evenings and do my best to watch every Warriors game. Lakers this year just aren’t enjoyable to watch so LeBron has taken a backseat to the likes of the Mavs, Bucks, Griz if they playing another good team
Kenny you are the GOAT, seeing your growth over the past few years is amazing. To this day I feel grateful to have found your channel way back when the white sox hat was in every video, ifykyk
My confession is that I only started REALLY watching the NBA in 2020. When covid broke out and I was in quarantine, I started playing 2K and watching The Last Dance, which got me interested in the league. Of course that was during a time where games weren’t being played. The first time I watched the NBA was in 2017 as a bandwagon Warriors fan but didn’t know much about the league besides the warriors. Then in 2020 when the warriors couldn’t play in the bubble I rooted for the nuggets because I have family in Denver. Now today I have learned a lot of the history and know a good bit about every team and have stuck with both Warriors and Nuggets even with all the injuries both teams have had the past two years and I will stick with them always from now on. My philosophy is you shouldn’t judge someone for being a bandwagon as long is they stick with the team after bandwagoning them.
Hey Kenny, your point about the drama in sports is actually only true for American Sports because your media just covers everything around the game all the time. Love your videos and your way of approaching things, you really got me into the sport.
My Confession is After the 18-19 Season the Kings were 9th seed that year I thought they were going start making the playoffs that next year and be one of those good young teams in the league, yea that definitely didn’t happen
Confession: I've been watching the NBA for about 6 years now and I still haven't become a fan of any team in particular. Sure, I have my favourite players and teams I care more about but I wouldn't consider myself a fan of any particular team. At first I explained to people that living in Ireland and watching at a later stage, made it hard for me to connect to a single team. Now, I realise it's more so that I don't want to get tied down to a team and experience the tanking or rebuilding stages that can happen.
Pfft I've been watching 30 years I still don't have a team. I can't help it I just can't make myself care about dirty laundry than the people themselves.
I'm ngl that comment about not understanding plays is very true for me. I have been looking at plays on 2K that helps me somewhat understand them but overall I just watch the players/ball move on the court
When I started watching the NBA (specifically RU-vid highlights) in 2019, I was drawn to this certain player. This guy could shoot the ball, and I mean like really shoot that thing. He was launching it from 25-30 feet on a gamely basis, and I was like oh snap, what team is this guy on? The Golden State Warriors. But wait, where's that other tall dude that's a bucket that I saw in all the highlights? Wait, these clips are dated in 2016-18. This team is so much different now. So, wait. How did this happen? Ohhhhh snap. Injuries. Injuries. Injuries. I became a Warriors fan right after the dynasty, and during the recovery... that is my confession.
Same i thought nba was likr football (real) system You play matches get points and win the league I wanted to buy a basketball jersey even though i only know few names including curry i started watching his highlights and i was a fan immediately, just like in 2010 seeing Diego Forlan in the word cup as an 8 years old and him becoming my favorite player . But so far ive only seen the warriors past 2019 finals and things haven't really been good
Confession: Used to be a Nets fan, then a Lakers fan, then changed to the knicks when melo got there. I shouldve stayed with one of the other teams. Also, Stephen curry has been my favorite player for almost a decade... but he's not a top 10 player after this season. And im unimpressed by the warriors this year (Playoffs might be different).
Huh? You’re unimpressed by the warriors after they won a combined 54 games in 2 years and are now 43-19 with the same roster? You’re unimpressed by the warriors after watching the leaps Jordan Poole has taken in his 3rd year? You’re unimpressed after seeing how well that team plays together after the past 2 years?
@@askyourwhoremother3292 Unimpressed, like I expect them to be much better. I thought they were going to be like the Strength in Numbers, but sometimes they are really off or really on. I just them to be more consistent. Even though they will still be hovering around 55 wins. Still rooting for them.
5:45 I would love for you (and/or if anyone knows other creators that already do this) to make content that is "breaking down plays" and explaining this kind of stuff. I really feel that is a missing component of nba media. When you do talk about games, sometimes you show 2-3 little slow motion clips and explain them - I find that incredible interesting and helpful!!
I respect the transparency on selling engagements. Also I confess that I played ball without watching a single second of play and only 2 years after quitting became a fan
I’m kind of like the warriors one but just 10 years later 😂 I started watching during the 2016 finals and was a warriors fan for the following years, but I live in Sacramento. So I became a kings fan around 2018-2019 and am now a diehard Kings fan.
I‘m from Germany and one of my friends was watching basketball since 2017 or some and I told him that I also watch a lot, but at that time I barely watch anything and started a few months later Love your channel kenny
Kenny not watching no college basketball until march madness makes so much more sense now. March Madness is known for it's drama, hence the name. Finally figured it out.
Confession: When Chris Paul was on the Clippers, I said he would never win a championship. I thought I would be against him winning last year. While I was rooting for Giannis, I wouldn't have been mad if CP3 got his.
My confession is that I don’t watch very many basketball games, but I could listen basketball podcasts and videos for hours on end. The ones I watch the most consist of Kenny for real, Through the Wire, No chill with Gilbert Arenas, The Draymond Green show, All the smoke and the list goes on man
the "dont understand the game" one fits me pretty well ngl. basketball isnt a big sport at all in my country, and i grew up playing soccer. and when i got into the nba at like 16, i could instantly recognize i dídnt have that natural understanding of the game that ive always had with soccer. but watching talented and informative content creators has helped a lot, not only more technical and nerdy people, but also more easy going and surface levle stuff has helped. so ig thank you kenny for helping me understand the game a bit better (although if i had to draw up a play to save the universe, the aliens might as well just blow us up straight off the bat)
My confession is that I consider myself an NBA fan and have followed the league since 2003 but I hardly ever watch games anymore. I keep up to date with the league through highlights, statistics, and RU-vid videos. I just don’t have the time or attention span to sit through whole games consistently.
As a fan of basketball for my entire life, a huge mav fan and Dirk being my favorite player of all time. I never started watching games consistently until Luka. I've gone from 5-10 regular season games to watching 70-75 regular season games a year.
entertaining players like luka who are all-nba level are always gonna get more attention there's nothing wrong with wanting to watch talent on your team, i'm a hornets fan and i've watched more games this year than any year of the past 5
I been a Lakers fan since 07 which was the first time I ever watched a full season of basketball and this years Lakers team is the hardest year I ever had to watch to the point where I gave up on watching them every night and am ready for the off season.
Sixers fan here. Ive been a fan for 10+ years and was there when we went 10-72. As you can see now, it gets better. The Lakers will bounce back, im fully confident of that
@@joshbergman3481 yea I feel you man but the thing is you guys was a tanking team and that’s totally okay cuz basically every team goes thru that. We aren’t we are a win now team and the way this team is playing is making it seem like they are the tanking team. They play with no effort, they have no chemistry and no one takes accountability and they are super inconsistent. That isn’t Laker basketball. Part for the reason is the roster itself. I liked almost everyone on the roster besides Russ and DJ. Bazemore and Ariza was good pickups to me but both fell all the way down. Reaves was a weird one but is now a good member on the team. AD is one of my favorite players and yes he is injury prone but im laughing when people say we should trade him and not Russ. You take the good with the bad. Russ on this team is all bad and Ad Is good with the bad.
@@basedsaeed13 Russ is not bad he's just a bad fit, they only needed a couple of shooters and they would still be a good team even with all the injuries. Next year they will probably move Russ as salary dump to a team that is truly rebuilding and start from there but what they should set goals right now:do they want to compete or rebuild?
I was building my dream home when sadly I ran out of bricks. Suddenly, I see LeFraud walking down the street! All I had to do was tell him the game was on the line and he threw up enough bricks for me to complete my ENTIRE HOUSE! Thanks LeMickey! You finally came up clutch!
My confession is that after a long day out and about id rather come home and listen to a funny podcast or some RU-vid video and play 2k over actually watching basketball. To watch an NBA game I have to be comfortable basically giving away like 2 hours of my relaxation time to study the game in front of me. If I spend too much time on my phone or only look up when the ball goes in the hoop I know I’m not getting everything out of it so my time feels better spent elsewhere. Weekend games mean so much to me. I also love watching with other people, especially people who ask questions about the game
The Space Jam post makes me want to see you review some basketball movies... IMO the best one movie in years was High Flying Bird (2019) by Soderbergh (Ocean's 11, Contagion) and McCraney (Moonlight). Impeccably shot political thriller set during a hypothetical players' lockout that actually has something to say about the game and who makes money from it. It's streaming on Netflix and everyone's sleeping on it!
My confession is that I actually enjoyed the tanking years of the Cavs (2018-2021) more than I enjoyed the LeBron years. Now I’m not saying I wasn’t absolutely elated when they won the chip (nothing will ever compare to the joy I felt that day), but there was just something about being an underdog team that nobody gave af about and then one of our players would have an amazing game and I’m just like “that’s my guy.” Also there’s the fact that wins came so rarely that whenever they did, I was so damn happy and it kept me super engaged in the game of basketball just wondering who the Cavs could realistically beat, reading up mock drafts, the excitement and nervousness when the draft lottery rolled around. It’s just different.
My confession as a fan of a "smaller" market team(Raptors and Bosh had just left) I pretended to hate the 2010-2013 Heat but it was honestly awesome seeing them play
Confession: I used to be a Knicks fan. The first game I watched was Melo's game winner over Luol Deng in 2012 (sorry Kenny). I also liked the Bulls and Pacers. I watched almost every Knicks game in the 2012-13 season. When the Pacers beat the Knicks in the 2013 playoffs I jumped ship and starting rooting for the Pacers. Been a Pacers fan ever since and no longer care about the Knicks.
The point abt the sport being tv as well is super accurate for why baseball is struggling. They have no idea to market the personal/drama side of the sport and so casuals don't care at all
Bro I hated basketball and hated on bball throughout HS. Graduated and started watching it and now I love it, brought me back into collecting cards too
I started watching basketball in 2018 and I had always been a 49ers fan cause my family is from the bay. So I decided to be a fan of the warriors without knowing how good they were. When people found out I had to fight for my life that I wasn’t a bandwagon. 4 years later still a die hard warriors fan and will always be.
As someone who’s from California my favorite basketball and football teams are both outside my home state. Also, I rarely find myself rooting for LA being only an hour from there.
Ive been a Sixers fan (basketball in general) for about 4 yrs now and I have never really understood the game, just like that one guy said. But something clicked when James Harden got traded to philly that made me really engaged thinking about the game. What probablh helped me was playing 2k MyGM early on and talking with my smarter friends. Watching videos and stuff is good and informative, but unless you’re engaging in the game via discussion or playing like Kenny said, you won’t develop an understanding. Regarding the Harden trade tho, I was (still am) extremely excited for the new-look Sixers and thinking at a deeper level because of all the information I had soaked in over time.
I’d say I still have about 40% of the game that just goes over my head, and I couldn’t draw up plays for shit, but I can def recognize what works and what doesnt work as a fan on the couch.
Confession: I’m a bucks fan but I was lowkey rooting for the raptors in the 2019 ECF. As much as I wanted the bucks to win, I really loved the Kawhi Leonard story and his fit on that team, and was amazed at how well he was playing. At least things worked out for both teams in the end.
My confession: A lot of times I'm acting like I actually know a lot about NBA, but really I do not watch the games, coz I'm european and I rather sleep. So I act like a guy who's an expert especially when it comes to ranking and comparing players when I'm acctually not
Hey Kenny, any suggestions for me? I’m a beginner to nba basketball I know the basic but I just want to take the next step in learning rosters etc. any suggestions?
I’m this way with wood carving. I don’t know how to whittle, I have no interest in whittling, but there’s a channel called Carving is Fun and I watch all of his videos.
I was in Antarctica hiking the mountains with my pet polar bears. Suddenly one of them asked me, "Father, is it true LeFruad is 3-6-1?”. I HAD to lie to them. My pets need a better role model. Shame on you LeFraud!
My biggest nba confession is that I was born in Boston, but not raised. All of my favorite teams are from the New England area (Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, bruins, etc) but I am a die hard Celtics fan. I always say I’ve been one my entire life, and fell in love with basketball because of the big 3, but that’s not nearly the truth. Truth is I started out as a thunder fan, and Westbrook was my favorite player. Then, during the KD/warriors era I was a raptors fan and was one until the 2020 season started. Throughout those years I still stayed consistent with the Celtics and would call myself a fan, but not nearly as close as the die hard one I am today
I was born in Haiti, lived in Fort Meyers for abt a yr, and I've been living in Canada since around '09. But fell in love with ball after seeing Russ and Giannis in 2017 and been a Bucks fan with those 2 as my favorite players ever since, but i've been called a bandwagon for liking winning teams and not liking Toronto
Ayo about that post where the guy didn’t understand the game, I recommend Daniel Li for that content, literally my favorite. Guy breaks down Xs and Os, reads lips, breaks down player strengths and how teams enable them. I’m not affiliated w him at all, just a fan and think he’s underrated
My NBA confession is that after Hoiberg's first season, I renounced my Bulls fandom and became a hardcore Celtics guy, my reasoning being that I could only cheer for a team that's well-run (ha!). Celtics management going down the shitter coincided with Chicago signing DeRozan, Ball, and Caruso, so I just shifted back to my original team because they were finally competent from a management perspective
I started watching basketball when Kobe died. Literally heard he passed and started watching his highlights and said “wow this dude was nice” 2020 lakers were the first team I really rooted for even though I’m a bulls fan (from Chicago)
That not understanding basketball but enjoying it is kinda how I see baseball. Stuff like field shifts and certain types of pitches are like a foreign language yet I enjoyed playing till high school and still enjoy watching games
It’s funny how when we are kids, sports can be a huge part of our lives and we can be so dedicated. Then you grow up and tend to really just appreciate Greatness.
Kenny I highly recommend checking out some of the beat podcasts. Between locked on and sport ethos there’s a lot of local guys giving good info on their teams. Also for heat content check out miami heat beat. Great people and a lot of fun. They’re also really cool to talk to if you wanna learn more. Let them know I sent you.
