Is this just a problem with video games? I've worked in software dev at companies of varying sizes, I have never heard of a company using Discord 'gamertags', let alone making horrible edgy jokes and threats in a Discord server. Even some of the smallest, most creatively driven projects and companies still use a Slack with full names and professional emails. This entire thing seems so unprofessional and backwards.
Its a small studio problem, indie dev teams and freshly formed companies making their first game arent going to have the money or the time to have someone making sure their volunteer discord mods are behaving. They dont have hr or public relations teams.

As the moment one person that acts like those individuals involved on the incident enters a development team they can cause so much damage and everyone involved on that team is very likely on the hook for that person’s actions. As long as they have extensive background checks to make sure that the applicant isn’t anyone like that, it should be fine.
@@glockenspiel604 My first ever job was at a 6 person company. No HR or PR team. I was hired by the senior developer through a job-posting site. There was a formal interview and vetting process. Unpaid interns were also hired to the company through the same process. If you really are taking your project that seriously, and you don't have the budget to hire paid employees why not put the effort in to do that? We have literally seen the ramifications if you don't put in this bare minimum effort.
I know i'm pretty late with this, but Lemonator47 has been around the Rising Storm scene for a long time. Even Red Orchestra if I remember right. I think i've even seen him in the Company of Heroes forums. He always posted on the steam forums, but never really said much if you know what I mean lol.

So far you showed one guy who made threats and probably pieced together personal info that maybe be stuff you've publicly mentioned(maybe you're super careful about what you say IDK) and one weirdo who has an edgy bio and perverted behavior. I'm not condoning their actions but you showed two people with questionable behavior and you claim you have a bunch of evidence but they'll just hide if you show it. That still requires us to have faith in your claim and the logic doesn't really follow because either way they would do that once this video was released so why hold out? If you have the evidenced archived it doesn't really matter much what they do. Given what was presented you're trying to bring into question the ethics of developers for the actions of two separate individuals and force them to make some sort of acknowledgement that weird people exist. As far as I'm concerned until proven otherwise there is only two obnoxious people present in a discord server which frankly isn't saying much. You like wagging your finger and trying to rope the developers and it just comes off like you're a helicopter mom and the developers are your children. They should focus on the game and not some petty virtue signaling where they apologize for the actions of strangers.

The moment a team behind a project of any kind starts throwing death threats or legal threats is when they've lost all the trust. There's no good reason to throw money at project like that until they clean up their act and and actually provide good enough proof they're worth something through their actions.

Yeah it's really quite sad - I remember frequenting gaming forums a lot - and it was almost entirely focused on excited speculation and just genuine community, having a joke and sometimes getting to know each other. Behaviour and speech like this was exclusive to certain 4chan subs - the underbelly lol. Now it has pervaded everywhere and I've got kids 15-20 years my junior who talk like this telling me "welcome to the internet"
@@samkedwards2032 It saddens me so much that less and less people care to remember or maintain the old spirit, i'm with you on this, i was a kid when i first discovered internet forums and it was honestly a great experience, nowadays if i were to experience what internet has become through modern social media, i definitely wouldn't want to be here. Somehow we had a great and utopic freedom to build better lives and communication with all around the world with only language barriers separating complete exchange of passion and words... One thing i admire Connor is how he built this game development community focused on sharing a game for free with a dream to just put out nerdy fun stuff for all to enjoy. I see a lot of the old internet spirit in him and this community in general, and to have him constantly be harassed for no reason is heartbreaking, the way he said about having a concealed carry to protect his family, i mean, I don't think these online threats are the only reason for that as the world itself has become more violent, but it certainly seems to weight on his mind which is enough to really question if exposing yourself in the internet is really worth it
I remember back in 2009 the first time i know internet, when i joined small forum of game discussion and review. The community was fresh and healthy it's a shame that many edgelord and people larping as one individual. Dead internet theory is real.

I tried OHD and its was kind of...meh? To start the map needs a huge revamp imo. Now to be fair I compare the game to squad witch makes it feel very bare bones, but my take is that it has a fairly long road ahead until its fun for more than an hour in my case. It is free though so that is definitely a HUGE plus! Hope it gets some dev love in the near future!
