Welcome to an immersive journey into the heart of India's biodiversity hotspot - Kaziranga National Park in Assam! Let's venture into the lush green landscapes and wetlands of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to some of the world's most magnificent and endangered creatures.
Planned my Trip to Assam with 'Banjara on Roads'

-------------------------------
Let's discover the remarkable wildlife in Assam. Kaziranga National Park is famous for its thriving population of Indian one horned rhinoceros, but that's just the beginning. It is also home to elusive tigers prowling through the tall grass, herds of wild water buffalo, and the majestic Asian elephant. Kaziranga isn't just about big mammals; it's a birdwatcher's dream. You can explore the vibrant avian world by capturing the graceful movements of the white-winged wood duck, the impressive beak of the hornbill, and the calls of numerous waterfowl.
Kaziranga National Park is not just about the wildlife and Jungle safaris. There are people who live inside the National Park with the wild animals. They are called the 'Tea Tribes of Assam'. The "Tea Tribes" in Assam, India, refer to a significant ethnic and social group primarily composed of tea plantation laborers and their descendants. These communities have a unique cultural identity and a history closely tied to the tea industry in Assam. The history of the Tea Tribes dates back to the colonial era when British planters introduced tea cultivation in Assam during the mid-19th century. To meet the labor demands of the tea plantations, the British brought in workers from various regions, including tribal communities from Central India (mainly Chhota Nagpur plateau) and other parts of India, as well as neighboring countries like Nepal and Bhutan.
The Tea Tribes consist of a mix of ethnic groups and communities, including Adivasis (Scheduled Tribes), OBCs (Other Backward Classes), and other marginalized groups. Some of the prominent tribes and communities within the Tea Tribes include the Adivasis, Santhals, Munda, Oraon, Kharwar, Gonds, and others. The labor force provided by the Tea Tribes has played a crucial role in the development of Assam's tea industry. These communities have historically worked in the tea gardens, plucking tea leaves, processing tea, and performing various tasks related to tea cultivation.
The Tea Tribes have a rich cultural heritage that includes their own languages, music, dance forms, and traditions. Over time, their cultures have blended with the Assamese culture, creating a unique cultural amalgamation. The Tea Tribes in Assam represent a historically marginalized and economically disadvantaged group that has played a significant role in the state's tea industry. While progress has been made in addressing their socio-economic challenges, there is ongoing work to improve their living conditions and provide better opportunities for education and healthcare. Do plan a day with these tribes in Assam. You can contact 'Banjara on Roads' for a customized trip to Assam.

Hey desi girl traveller. Welcome to Assam ❤. In most of the homes in Assam villages , people leave their footwear outside the home . And dheki is used with barefoot. Not your fault, your guide should have informed you. Enjoy your stay 😊😊

Hey Nandita ! Thanks for the insight. Yes that's true most homes of Assam village people leaves footwear outside but it's not mandatory and neither the dheki to be used bare foot - it's not a custom neither a rule to use barefoot. Anyways thank you - will keep your words in mind. Also come travel with me - I will definitely give you a real cultural and true Experience.
