✨ I honestly didn't think the Xero Prio for Women or Xero Prio for Men would be the ultimate travel footwear.
I needed multi-functional shoes for my 3-month trip for Europe; functional and stylish footwear capable of looking good on the city streets, solid in the gym, and (most improbably), capable of handling technical mountain hikes.
⛰️ I threw everything I could at them, and frankly much to my surprise, they held up! Even exposed scrambling at 2,000+ metres in the mountains of Bulgaria.
I officially dub Xero Prio Shoes the most multipurpose travel footwear I've ever owned. I adore them!
Learn more about barefoot shoes and why they're great for travel, and see my Xero Prio shoes in action in this video.
👀 HOW DID I GET HERE?
Before I got the Prio, I had the Terraflex, which are designed for trail running and hiking. I took a leap and replaced my hiking boots with them, and I never looked back.
Here's my Terraflex Review - • Best Travel Shoes for ...
But the Terraflex weren't good for much other than hiking. So I looked at everything Xero offered, and decided I would try the Prio shoe, hoping they would be the best all-around travel shoe. Watch the video to see what happened!

Thank you Nora. Your travel tips have been very, very useful for me. I’m going to be in Europe this year in November and December and I’m seriously thinking of getting the zero Neo shoes for walking, but just wonder what you would recommend for rainy days in Europe . Much appreciated -great channel! Laura from Canada

Tough call with the rain factor. The good thing about the Xero Neo shoes is that they will dry quickly if they get wet. Personally I might try to puddle jump ;-) That said....I just ordered a new pair of shoes (ankle boots) from Vivaia that are water-resistant, designed for fall rainy days! You might want to check out their newest lineup of stuff.....it looks AMAZING: vivaia.sjv.io/0ZR5nV

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I love barefoot shoes - they are currently all I wear! However, I still wear trekking barefoot boots when doing variable terrain because I enjoy the ankle support they give over a shoe. Vivobarefoot are my go to hiking boots. However you are right that boots are harder to travel with. By the way… your feet look great in the Xero shoes because your feet are small!! My size 9’s always look a bit like clowns feet in my barefoot shoes - but it’s worth it for the comfort. 😂
@NoraDunn

I must admit even with smaller feet (8 - 8.5), it took me a bit to get used to the wide toe box on barefoot shoes in general. And good call on the barefoot hiking boots. I'll admit I took the Prios on this trip as a travel experiment, but if I am going somewhere where I know I'll be doing some serious mountain hikes, I would be inclined to bring more appropriate shoes/boots.

I started wearing a pair of Prio's last May, wore them all summer with no Issues. Then in October the right insole, only the right, started backing out. I bought t a pair of Run619 for barefoot shoes, they do the same thing. I've put a strip of double sided fabric tape on the right insole, so far so good, but haven't taken any long walks yet. I tried the shoes with no insoles, but November in Michigan is cold and I did feel a it with no insoles. I do love the Prio's even with this going on I'm sort of glad I'm not he only one having this issue.
@NoraDunn
@NoraDunn 6 месяцев назад
So odd about the insoles! I took mine out and haven't looked back, but it can get cold on cold ground (as I discovered hiking on a bit of snow!). Glad you love your Prios though - I do too.

I have the Xero Prio as well and it's an amazing shoe. There's basically nothing I would change about them functionally. If there was a more stylish version of it, I'd be all over it. I tried another couple of pairs of Xero shoes that were more stylish, but sent them back and tried a different barefoot shoe.

How are the Prous shoes.for walking on pavement? I hike in the ZTrail sandals quite a lot but my feet end up sore and swollen if I have to do more than a few miles on paved roads or sidewalks. Dirt, rocks, cobblestones, sand, or really anything else is fine.

I have no problem with the Prio on pavement! They have thicker soles than the Z-trail, for sure.

Two thoughts: How well do they dry? Are they any good for river crossings? And I'm often on super slippery trails. Lots of dust or pine needles. How well do they prevent slippage in such scenarios? Thank you.
@NoraDunn
@NoraDunn 3 месяца назад
Great questions! If you plan on doing river crossings, I would suggest one of their water-friendly styles like the Aqua X Sport which is designed to dry quickly. I've gotten my Prios very wet (like, step in a full puddle kind of wet), and they dry fine but it takes some time depending on the environment. As for slippery trails, it's difficult for any shoe to adhere to dust or pine needles. The Prio is okay but not amazing. For that I'd choose a style with bigger lugs on the bottom. The Aqua X actually has a great sole for it, as would the Scrambler Low (which actually has a Michelin sole!), Terraflex, Mesa Trail, and a few others.

I just bought my first pair of Xero shoes and, like you, I have experienced the insoles sliding out of the back of the shoe. Definitely don't like that, but I'll try going without the insole and see it that helps my comfort level. Thanks for the video!

I have hobbit feet, as wide as they are long. I often buy orthotics and switch out the super thick insole for a thinner (but super comfortable one). In Australia the brand I use is Klouds as they are pretty broad. I’m going to check out the Xeros, I’ll have to try on but same, if I purchase will use Nora’s link.

Carpet tape. It is 2 sided and is made to take abuse. Had a cushion on a bench wouldn’t stay in place, now it doesn’t move at all. It will keep that insole in place.

Thank you for the video! While I am interested in these shoes, I am concerned they will not have enough support as I have back issues. Are they recommended for people who need more back support? I typically where HOKA's, but have purchased the Terrex Swift R3 GTX Hiking Shoe for an upcoming international trip. I will be hiking, but plan to use them as well for an everyday shoe. Thanks!
@NoraDunn
@NoraDunn 4 месяца назад
Do HOKAs have arch support? I thought they were pretty minimal shoes too, but perhaps I'm confusing them with another brand. Because Xero makes barefoot shoes, they don't have "support" the way most people define it, which is usually arch support. So if that's what you need then maybe barefoot shoes aren't for you. That said, you might want to check the Xero website, because they have a lot of info about how barefoot shoes can solve problems that people THINK requires support, but really requires the opposite.

Generally speaking, I love minimalist shoes. Over the years I've worn Vibram Fivefingers, Goatgrips, Xeros, and... at the moment I can't think of the brand of my minimalist sandals. I quit taking them hiking/camping, though. Even though I like feeling the ground under my feet under "normal" conditions, I don't like feeling every little rock and root when I'm hiking. Is that just something you've gotten used to?
@NoraDunn
@NoraDunn 8 дней назад
Great question! I haven't found the ground-feel factor to be too bad with any of the shoes I've used. Sandals, yes. But trail shoes, no. The Prio style has a particularly beefy sole. But maybe I've also gotten used to it.

@NoraDunn

I own the Xero Z-Trail EV sandals. I haven't made a review of them. To be honest, I'm not super in love with them, but more because they're not my style than anything else. As for the Prio, I think it would be okay for narrow feet.....but check the website. I believe there is a robust sizing guide.

I’m a new subscriber and enjoy listening to your RU-vid transmissions. I purchased a Xero shoe after listening to your recommendation. The shoe wasn’t as I expected it to be. The shoe was more like an elastic sock with a sole with decorative shoelaces. When I tried to contact the company, their recording said that they were not taking any calls and referred me to a website. I am returning the shoes and I have to pay the shipping both ways. Right now it’s looking to be a $15 mistake. I purchase things online all the time and this experience stood out as being unlike any other purchase I’ve made. Really like listening to you, but very disappointed with the shoe company. I’m not confident that I will ever receive a refund as the website states I should expect a long delay.

Others will use their heads and assess their environment in an ongoing fashion and change their behavior accordingly. You won’t meet these people on the job.
