Yes to realistic advice ! I am with you with duplicates, they are not clutter, they just make our life easier. Also for not laundering as often (we all do it but won't admit it). Some popular youtubers almost shame us for having more than one item but not you. This is real life, not a minimalist contest.😇
I so agree. In fact, when I don't have duplicates, then I create more visual clutter because I'm more likely to leave the item sitting out in the room I used it, instead of returning it back to its home in another room. Plus a time waster when I can't remember what room I left it in and have to go searching for it.
I live in West Africa so grocery delivery isnt a thing. We live 45 minutes from the supermarket area and i used to go every week until covid came. To minimise risk i cut it to once a month and suddenly life seemed so much easier! I plan meals so i always have ingredients and i shop locally for fresh bread, fruit and vegetables. It saves money on petrol snd because I'm not picking up extra goodies just because i see them on the shelves.
I have and still do watch multiple channels on decluttering, organizing and cleaning. It interests me to see the different theories of multiple channels. However, I do not subscribe to all these channels as it would be too much to keep up with. But, your channel is my favorite so I have subscribed. You seem like a down to earth person who has reasonable goals and great content. I thank you and encourage you to keep up the great work.
There are a few things that I keep on every level of the house and lip balm is one of them... I actually have one in the pocket of every jacket and coat too. The other items are lotion and scissors. The final point was a real life-changer for me. Now, I stack household chores onto times I'm already standing to do something else that's a regular habit, usually after eating a meal or while making tea. When I go to the bathroom, I'll clean some part of it and generally try to leave any room in better condition than when I entered it.
One of the nice things about working in a grocery store, I can just pick things up daily that I need throughout the week. And even better, I close so I can actually SHOP while the store is closed as they always keep at least one self checkout machine open for the over night crew so I don't have to deal with other customers as I shop. That's WONDEROUS!
I also keep multiple chap sticks!! Yes I am addicted!! Scissors are everywhere in my house!! I keep one in the car…4 in the kitchen…one in each bathroom & bedroom!!🥰
@AnnEaton-xj6ic lol, I collected scissors into one spot for awhile. Lol. We got up to 16 pairs before they scattered again. We need duplicates there, but we need them where we use them. Lol
My mother had two vacuum cleaners - up and downstairs. She was in her 90s and still did her own housework. I thought it was a genius idea at the time. Humping a cleaner up and down stairs is dangerous as well as hard work.
I don’t often message on RU-vid videos but I just needed to say thank you, you made so much sense to me & have motivated me. I’m really pleased I found your channel & I'm looking forward to watching your future content too.
You are so CORRECT! I have been doing pretty much all the same things for several years now! I have a pair of scissors in every room of our house. :) I have a vacuum downstairs and one upstairs. I have cleaners in each bathroom - which is 2 upstairs and one downstairs. I don't have groceries delivered but I do the pickup order at Walmart. I don't wash sheets every week. I don't even wash our towels after one use. We use them 2 or 3 times before washing. I wait until I have a full load of clothes before washing. Good video! Good tips!!! Cleaning is not my favorite activity, but I like a clean home, but I do agree that we don't need to "over clean" - "we don't live in a truck stop" to quote you. :) LOL
Pleasantly surprised that I do all of these already! I was just telling my husband the other day that I really don’t feel like keeping the house clean is all that hard, or that I spend an astronomical amount of time cleaning. I wipe down the bathrooms when it’s needed, which is pretty often since I have 4 boys in my house but I keep supplies in each bathroom. Robot vacuum stays downstairs and the Dyson stick is upstairs. I’ve tried doing a cleaning schedule but find cleaning as needed saves me time overall. I should probably dust and change the sheets a little more often but we’re all fine. Keeping things decluttered is my biggest struggle as things are constantly coming in.
The custom of washing your sheets once a week was established when people only bathed once a week. The frequency that you wash your sheets can be in direct correlation with your physical cleanliness.
I agree with a lot of your ideas, however, I could clean the bathroom every day- I don’t, but bathrooms are the one room that bugs me if its not clean. Right now, I’m cleaning, decluttering, donating in my basement. It was on my brain, day after day, and finally I said just start it, cause I knew after I started, it would be so much easier to continue. I’ve been down there 2 days. I gave myself yesterday off, because we had a couple of appointments, but today Im going back downstairs and do some more. I’ve got about 3 more days. A job I dread! 😝 Thanks for your great videos.
Great list! Totally agree.. I have dustpan and brushes in several rooms ie where I need them. I have cleaning stuff in each bathroom and vacuum cleaner and floor mop on ground and 1st floor. I use the 1st floor ones for the second floor to. I clean my bathroom every 2 weeks, but do the sinks, toilets and showers in between when needed. Also bed change every 2 weeks. I buy 3 goods and tins and hygiene care, household stuff etc every 1/4yr as a big shop. I fill freezer 1x month and fridge every 2 weeks.
Many chapsticks, especially the brand Chapstick, make your lips feel better initially but actually dry out your lips so you keep applying more. That’s why people become addicted to them. Do some research and discover brands that genuinely moisturize your lips.
Love your videos and they've helped me sort everything in my life. I follow all your tips religiously. Curious to know if you have more tips on how to make the kitchen / cooking less overwhelming and time consuming. Cooking multiple times a day seems kind of impossible a task.
I keep duplicates for convenience, not for ‘just in case’. For example, I have 2 robot vacuums so I don’t have to pick up and move it physically to vacuum the whole house. It also allows me to program each of them separately - one runs every night in the high traffic areas and the other runs once a week for the lower traffic areas, like the bedrooms.
Many of these are my survival skills as someone with ADHD. I would not get ANYWHERE in the morning if I sat down for breakfast so I walk around with a smoothie. Duplicates of things. My multitasking could feature more cleaning but it is what it is 😅
Great video! Thanks! I just moved to the US and Clorox (or other brands) wipes are great for quickly cleaning a bathroom, kitchen in between deeper cleanings.
I can’t imagine not cleaning the bathroom! I have a 13 year old son who gets in hurry in there and misses because he wants to get back to whatever he is doing. My 11 year old daughter isn’t so neat with things either. They both can’t even hit the hamper. The clothes end up on the floor BESIDE the hamper. The tub ALWAYS has a ring around it because they like playing outside and get dirty. Unfortunately, this isn’t a task I can do even once a week. It’s at least two to three times a week if not more. I put as many of my bills on auto pay as possible. Like you, I was too scared of missing a payment. I’m going to cancel most of my cards as I get them paid off. Already cancelled 4 store cards. They give you deeper discounts for using the cards (these I usually paid off each month if used them) but the stress of being afraid I forgot to pay them made it not worth the discounts. My house payment, power bill, car payments, and a few other things are automated tho.
I pay ALL my bills on the first of the month. This way those creditors who want payment NOW are paid NOW. I still have some that involve writing checks, but a lot of them are online. I drop off the checks on my next errand day.
I am the same way with store specific cards. I just don't use them often enough to build them into my routine. The mental stress of carrying it forward is not worth the so called savings.
Thank you for this. Great tips. With bills I pay all mine by direct debit, that way everything goes out automatically every month & I don’t have to worry about it. Do many people in the US do direct debit?
I am OCD and have to put on lotion a lot. I have made my life so much easier by just making sure there is a bottoe of lotion in every room in the house.
I like many of your ideas. I'm eyeing up your stick vacuums. I have a regular one, but it looks like the stick vacuums are much lighter with no power cord. Would make smaller jobs much easier. Any suggestions on a good one? Also, I really love that dog you're dogsitting - I think it's a labor doodle? So cute. I enjoyed this helpful video. 😊❤
I can vouch for cordless vacumns ! I resisted for so long until I went to my daughter in laws for an extended visit ...all I can say is change your life !!! Also she opened my eyes to a steam mop ! Love love it .
Aw thank you so much! That dog is Bailey - she is so sweet! This is the vacuum almost the same as I have (same manufacturer). It's the Laresar and it's very lightweight and has a light on the front so it's easy to see everything. There also isn't a charging block, you plug the vacuum straight in, which I love! I just looked and Amazon also has a $30 off coupon right now if you check the coupon box! amzn.to/4fXc4xj
