Okay, about the counters with edges: maybe the little backsplash shelf is unnecessary, but the outside edge I LOVE on mine. Maybe I am clumsy, but there are countless times spills did not drip down the counter onto my cabinets because that edge is there. I love it!!!
Haha dusting was my job as a kid, too! New windows, the Dyson Animal cordless vac, an air purifier and doing laundry more often make a huge difference!
so excited for you to have connected with Cas! I have been watching her since she had about 30k subs! she has grown so much and I have loved watching the journey, she is the one who started me on my decluttering journey! and then I learned about Dana and Dawn, that trio changed my life! I am glad yt suggested your channel to me when it did:) I have been watching you grow super fast now too! I found you at about 4.5k :)
Dont shower with soap. We use watered down shampoo. It does not leave soap film. No it isn’t bad on your skin. Plus bring an extra medium size towel to wipe down shower walls after you have rinsed the walls and door when done showering. And teach your kids to do it too. We have a 1950’s pink tiled bathroom and the grout has stayed white because if this.
I have found the plush toilet paper does indeed give off little fibres. Do the planet a favour and install a toilet bidet. It took a bit of getting used to but I only buy toilet paper for guests now. We don’t need to wash our precious forests down the sewer.
I’ve never heard anyone else say this, but last month I paid $1200 to get an air duct cleaning of our home, and since we had that done I honestly have not noticed less dust appearing on surfaces - which has been surprising & disappointing. I assume the duct cleaning must have improved our air quality, but since the pollen has been very high in the weeks since we had it done, I haven’t noticed any improvement in terms of allergies in our family. I saw the guys going into every vent in our home, vacuum them out, and remove the bags full of dust from our home - and they were there from about 8am to 1 pm - so I know the service was legitimately provided. One option when getting duct cleaning is to actually get it CLEANED - not just vacuumed out. I did not have the cleaning done as someone had warned me years ago that it can be dangerous breathing in the chemicals that are typically use, especially for children. Had I opted for the hardcore cleaning, maybe that would have made a big difference in reducing the amount of dust i see in my home & how quickly it accumulates. But much like Ozempic, it just wasn’t a risk I was willing to take.
I would have felt the same about the cleaning chemicals! It's definitely a risk. But removing bags of dust is great - I bet that helped a lot for the air quality!
Hi! You have given me a lot to think about. Regarding the toilet paper - This gets really personal but I had my husband install a hand held bidet to my toilet. It didn't cost very much and was super easy to install. I have been using it not only for #2 but every time I go #1. I love that clean and fresh feeling. I find that since I have been using it I don't use nearly as much toilet paper. Just a thought... Hope I didn't gross anyone out!
Dust comes from dead skin and hair from pets and humans. You can never be rid of it. My husband has psoriasis so we have more dust than ever before. Bc he’s constantly shedding skin at an accelerated rate. I’m not going to,feel shame about dust. Sorry, not sorry.
1. Clean bedding and couches regularly 2. Add front door mat and rug inside front door 3. Vacuum with a robot vacuum and handheld vacuum 4. Regular mopping of floors 5. Use an air purifier 6. Have less clutter 7. Close windows 8. Exfoliate and moisturise skin regularly 9. Use thinner toilet paper I think I missed one along the way 😅
Paper Products !! And then the Pandemic came, and people went BAT SHIT crazy buying every package of toilet paper, paper towels, handy wipes, and Kleenex. Do you know how long it took us to find ONE package of toilet paper, in the beginning ?? Almost a week !! Do Not Declutter !! People needed this a while back, instead of buying out every grocery store in the city. 1 shopping cart, twenty packages of toilet paper, HEY you gonna use all that this week? NO, then give me one package !! Nope, not on your life, I NEED this toilet paper !! I might OUT POOP myself.
Another source of dust is cheap cotton jersey clothes. We've noticed that after little investigating into why we have so much dark dust in bathroom and bedroom. We upgraded a bit and the difference was huge.
I am sorry, but rushing doing all of that just stresses everybody, especially the kids. I rather read my Bible verses in the morning while drinking my coffe, then write down the most important things to be taken care of that day and then play 1/2 hour of piano before breakfast. Life is too short and now that I am retired, I want a break from all the stress of rushing and not enjoying the precious things in life, the dishes can wait.
Our stainless isn’t at all hard to keep clean, but didn’t everyone learn how awful tile countertops are back in the early 90s? Are there any even left these days?
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the recipe of your Grandma written in what I thought was Russian! Then I looked up closer and saw it was Ukrainian. I speak both. And I felt connected. I find it so sweet that you've put that in a frame. Great video, thank you!
I really enjoyed this video because I love all things "home." I'm happiest when I'm home, and I love the opportunity for creativity that your own space provides, like choosing the paint colors, for example. It was fun to listen to you speak about your home because it's obviously important to you. I feel the same way!
I usually wake up without one but if I need to get up at a very specific time, I set it on my phone and keep it in my master bathroom (I can hear it from my bedroom)!
I find my house so dusty, I hate it. I can dust all the time and boom, it doesn't look like I did anything. It has cut down dust with changing the sheets weekly and using the bamboo sheets which we love! It does help with less dust. Now to implement the other tips and grab my vacuum!
1. Wet n' forget shower... best invention ever. Never have to scrub a shower again. Spray down shower after your shower and walk away 2. Wipe microwave down every time you have dish soap in your sink 3. Children over age 7 can do laundry... have them help 4. NEVER put dishes in sink as they can go directly in dishwasher unless they are hand wash (teach everyone in family to do this). WHY did it take me so long to figure this out?!?!?! 5. Have wipes under all sinks and wipe down sink/vanity area after brushing teeth for night
If you still like to use bar soaps, cut it in very small pieces, and put it in a zip lock bag, and use one or two pieces when showering, it's cleaner, and last a long time
Also, for the things that you don't have in a curio cabinet, there is something called Museum Putty that you attach to the bottom of your knickknacks and they stay put. You can easily use a Swiffer around them and not have to pick them up. Just a thought.
Don't forget that a vast majority of dust in your bedroom is produced by your own body(ies): dead skin cells. Just check out your socks, leggings, bras, etc, when you're doing laundry! Turn them inside out before tossing them in the laundry and watch that dust fly! So, not just micro fibers, oh no, tons of dead skin cells!
L always throw away junk mail right out of the mail box. Keeping less clutter in the kitchen. I like you would just throw all the mail on my counter, uck. Now I have a place for my mail in my office.
Thicker toilet paper is bad for the environment. The water treatment plants have to deal with it because it won't dispose of itself. And if you have a septic field you are asking for trouble.
Change your furnace (HVAC) filter more frequently. Our service tech said it’s better to have a cheaper filter and change monthly for example than have an expensive filter and change it every 6 months. We noticed a huge increase in dust during/after the Canadian wildfires. In fact, our windows had a hazy film on them as well, both inside and out.
My family has horrible allergies. I have to wear a mask just to dust because I will be unable to breathe. We tried a bunch of air purifiers, expensive, cheap and everywhere in between. When we got the first good air purifier, I knew. Within one day the secondary filter was full! I knew right then and there my cleaning, encasing everything, etc was not really helping as much as I thought. The dust was so bad because drywall dust in the vents from building the new house. This is no exaggeration, when we got our ducts cleaned professionally, they sucked 65lbs of dust out of them. Now the dusting is nowhere near the problem it was and I no longer have to wear a mask. If you have floor air returns please know you have to have your duct work cleaned every once in a while. I did not know this and I suffered for years.
@@tarynmaria_ I wanted to share my story because of how horrible it was. I’m so glad people make videos like you to help others. Hoping my comment helps someone.
I use Reel Paper that I order online. It’s made of bamboo so it is sustainable. It is delivered in a big box monthly, and they send a text that gives you the option of changing the delivery date so that you always have the correct amount of rolls on hand. There is much less dust in my bathroom since I started using it. It is no more expensive than buying at the grocery store, and it is satisfyingly soft. And a silly perk for me: each roll is marked with a stylized “r” for reel paper. When turned upside-down, that “r” looks like a “j” which is my first initial, making my bathroom look like a nice hotel with custom toilet paper rolls. Hee!
Your heart seems to be in the right place, however, my takeaway from this video is that its intended audience are people who want to keep most of their stuff. This is declutter “lite”. Perhaps it will help ease those people into the process though. Cheers. 😊
