While maelstorm looks better in dd2 I think the meteor was so much cooler in ddda. The little twinkles when your meteors enter the atmosphere is such a nice touch.
@@wetteryanWhat? DD Online had a completely different HUD, damage numbers on attacks, levels on enemies, etc. The HUD here is identical to Dark Arisen(which is essentially the same as base game for the purpose of this discussion)
They really should’ve made Warfarer the class everyone ends up as (it’s called “Arisen” in Japanese) Allow everyone to pick 2 vocations they have maxed out and have 3 skills for each with Rearmament switching between them So the old Strider would just be a Warfarer using Thief + Archer
I would rather have the old system with each class having two weapons or 6 skills, and with warfarer allow you to select two weapons to swap in the fly with ANY skill you want, that would prettymuch let you be watever you want. Theres a reason most people use moded warfarer to be able to use most skills....and as others have said...i miss mystic knight....hence im going back to DD1 just to play it again
Too bad they removed so many spells. I also wish that you could vary your cast time for meteor like you could in the first one so that you could only cast a couple of them instead of waiting the entire animation Also you can't manually cast a spell at a location, you have to be aiming at something. Like if I want to cast at the middle of a group of enemies I can't now I have to pick one of them
And you have little control over where you are targeting. No more the days of casting Maelstrom from the distance before the group of enemies started attacking you. Also, now Maelstrom doesn't pull targets from the outer range, so if the enemies get slightly out during the time you start spinning your staff until the spell lands, they are safe and you wasted all that time for nothing.
Honestly getting instagibbed by bandit mages in BBI who used the spell was most likely the source of that change lol. BBI consisted of small condensed spaces which made getting away from the sucktion a nightmare though too so who knows.
A bit disappointed with what they did to the sorcerer, I was kinda hoping they'd add in a new big spell like a thunderstorm or a flaming maelstrom, and they took out my favorite spells brontide(lighting whip) and fulmination,I hope they'll bring these two back in future dlc
@@h3llofademon Honestly, as a Ranger main shooting ten explosives arrows at once in DDDA, I can confidently say that the nerf was much needed. Buying hundreds of explosive arrows is akin to paying Yojimbo in FFX to kill any enemy including the super boss.
@@bukojoetheslapsoils8273 As a ranger player, gotta agree, especially since how strong explosive shot still is. As a ranger and archer primary in DD1 the thing that mattered to me the most was the kickboxing stuff to achieve the fantasy of a highly acrobatic archer rather then only stand stationary and fire like a generic dragon age game.
@@cannedsquasher5923 the only mods for DD1 are graphics and a cheat mod. The engine is so bad there's no gameplay mods to improve the actual gameplay. It's just legitimately just as good and better in other aspects as the sequel.
@@hipcheckboiii1603 Wrong! There are tons of DD2 gameplay overhaul mods to change how the vocations play (e.g 8 skills instead of 4, unique skillsets per weapon for Warfarer, better levitate, mixing movesets across vocations, etc.)There's an incredible Spell Maker mod to create your own spells, an Enemy Randomizer mod to change the enemy variety and sizes of creatures, and true difficulty mods for NG+/endgame which change the stats, attack behaviours and abilities of enemies. Amazing mods are being released and it's barely been out for a month.
@@hipcheckboiii1603 there are gameplay mods for the first one though, like the one allowing warrior to use 6 skills or the one that added an unarmed vocation
I keep seeing this. Most of second set of skills were moved to being combos instead of button presses. So they’re still there, you just activate them differently.
@@vee7514bro for real, people just want to complain, DD2 is an upgrade in pretty much every way, we're really only missing a bitterback isle like mode
For some reason it felt like the upgrade to sorcerer in Dd2 isn't impactful at all, just a few new spells which doesn't do much damage and just the maelstrom. I still ended up using high levin and Frigor anyways
@@ExcessumGamingI kninda disagree I feel with how common camsites are I feel a lot more open to trying new arufd and experimenting, especially since theres lots of great spells and they’re well balanced (fir the most part) so there isn’t a stale meta on what to use.
I like the dda because you can see the sparkles in the sky where the meteors are coming from which is awesome really makes you feel powerful idk if dd2 has that
Just to further add, when you got games like Final Fantasy 16 having a rather creative way to have multiple skill sets by being also able to assign a Eikon to each one despite only having 2 skills per, you end up with a whooping 6, plus 3 more with the eikon special gimmick or 3 sets of skills which can be swapped quickly in-between to allow DMC level of combat. Just another reason i wont be picking up this game because i already have the `controller gameplay `memory hot-swapping distance` as i would call it (aka you forget the controls are mapped differently) when it comes to Final fantasy 7 rebirth and grand blue fantasy relink where how they have the controls mapped tends to jar me a smidge in some ends. Even if i could remap the controls with some of them. Anyway, i find the first one definitely looks more good where the camera shake feels more wow and its got the camera better zoomed out so you can really see the impact of the spell. While it kind of looks like the latter either looks roughly the same or more static, such as the tornado in DraDog2 feels a smidge more static on ends.@@briancaples5614
Facts everytime I bring this up people mistake the statement as meaning I want more so I can be overpowered or something but in reality I just want access to a fun and diverse moveset.
If you played warrior in the first game you only hot access to 4 skills and same for daggers technically though you also had the bow that had its skills.
The Sorcerer feels hella mid compared to other vocations in DD2, or even compared to the Sorcerer in DD1. You get 12 skills in total, 4 of which are shared with the mage and 2 are locked behind long questlines. Then there's the lack of any interesting and involved game mechanic like the other vocations have, no unique blocking or dodging or timing your hits. Nope, you get an ability to cast faster and regen stamina. Nice. I like standing in place and pressing 3 buttons. And the new spells aren't even cool, just some run-of-the-mill elemental attacks, with the exception of the flare, which is entirely busted. I'm not even mad, just disappointed.
I agree, although yeah technically the sorcerer was kind of like this in the first game too because this is the nature of most mage casting focused classes. Still I wish they could have done more with it and not removed spells. (And vocations, mystic Knight)
It's still strong. Augural flare is easily the strongest attack in the game, though it needs a bit of a setup. Very good for wayfarer combos to just have archestaff just to put it up before attacking with something fast. But I feel you, man.
Huuu i dont think so i played with sorcerer and the game was so easy like the dragon didnt had a chance to kill any of my pawns it tooked me like 3 mins or less to kill him..
@@djbootymeatlive1484 Ngl sometimes I just sit on the title screen so I can hear the classic Dark Arisen track. It's a shame I heard so much bad about the new soundtrack that I probably won't switch off the OG.
@@DD-to5ig magick spearhand is an awesome class with tons of tools... instead of mystic knight, which is buff your party and smack your own balls in front of the enemy
Only thing i missed is not being able to use that one warrior move that increases damage when getting hit by enemies while charging but i get why they removed it. It's just an alternative to the currwnt charged slash so it doesnt add much other than charged slash with extra comditions
I like how there is not a single statement in this comment section that is not directly contradicted by someone else in equal amounts. The most even split I've ever seen
@@bridgerbutler661 Caster vocations were especially affected by that. All the other classes had pretty good skills integrated into the core skills while the same thing cant really be said about the casters, aside from Anodyne on Mage. The elemental diversity in your Skillset that you're effectively able to use is nowhere near as good as it used to be
Physical vocations have better core skills which a lot came from the equippable skills. Sorcerers and mages do not have these kind of upgrade. Who uses the normal and heavy attacks without flare. They need slots.
I actually really like how they made the fireballs shoot off like a mortar round in 2. Makes more sense then you just getting yoinking surprisingly tiny meteors that happen to be someplace close to the planet.
it's less cool.. why does it matter that ot makes "more sense" ? it's a fantasy rpg not a realistic physics simulation there's plenty of things that make no sense but as long as they are cool we don't care.
@@birbboi2986 There are a lot less realistic fantasy games out there. This one has relative permadeath, environmental physics, ARPG combat, it's definitely geared closer towards realism than fantasticism
@@birbboi2986 More cool in my opinion since it's a pretty unique spin on the classical meteor spell. Do you know how many games let you call tiny rock from orbit as the ultimate fire spell? It's pretty much all of them that have fire magic. At least this one does something different with it. It's all ascetics anyways. The result is still "magical carpet bomb" so who really cares. I just thought it was a neat little visual addition instead of the game going "they just appear."
I feel there's something missing on some of the skill animations of the other class. Ryota Suzuki which is DD's battle designer is now working on Final Fantasy (Square Enix). I think it's one of the reasons.
The best memories of dragons dogma i had was using a lightning whip spell to kill my first Ogre gosh it was so much fun like DD is the only game where I'd pick a mage and say "its time to have some fun" cause the spells are so chaotic 🤣
As a Great Sword only Warrior, I really hated golems until my Sorc pawn learned Meteoron. I just wish she'd cast it faraway like I always teach her, cause for no reason she just starts casting it under the guy's legs.
I think the animations look better in the first game. The graphics might be better now but the distortion effects make it harder to see enemies when you’ve casted I basically have to back off till they are done to resume attacking
I like the look of old Maelstrom better, tbh it looks a lot like a water spout and I got to see one of those IRL and that shit was cool. It was really far away but still neat as hell. The big new hurricane thing in the new animation looks less interesting to me.
I feel high bolide is better than meteoron in animation and execution, cause with bolide you don’t really have to aim it’ll auto aim, and the animation where you swing the staff feels more purposeful and the camera looking up to where the fireballs launch up to is just really cool.
With how massive the game world is and how many enemies, npcs, large monsters, and interactables there are in areas now I totally get why some of the spells and such were a bit toned down. and they are still pretty awe inspiring
Okay I love that the music artist's channel is linked... but what's the actual song? Guess I'm just gonna have to listen to all of them. ***Update*** Found it. It's the GigaSlayer and uunnff.
This looks so cool😮i watched dd2 boss fight clips and thought wow this game suck, but playing mage build seems so much fun in your video, i might be too harsh on dd2
