I just watched your reaction of "The Princess Bride" and enjoyed it immensley. Another movie made 2 years earlier had the same vibe as The Princess Bride and I know it will leave you feeling happy and amazed. The Never Ending Story is about a boy who reads a book that is "Not Safe" and it changes his entire outlook of life. His recently widowed father is trying to keep him grounded in the real world after his mother died, but the bullies at school and the (Not Safe) book that is calling to him are irresistable.

Now we're talking! Not to downplay the strengths of the first three films, but for myself and many others, Ghost Protocol is where this series really finds its footing and starts hitting consistent home runs. They really managed to perfect the format with this one - the fun team dynamic, Ethan doing incredibly crazy stunts (complete with Tom Cruise risking his life for our entertainment), and the whole thing of the heroes facing a neverending string of setbacks and just barely managing to make things work in their favour. Plus, it's got some phenomenal action scenes, a great sense of humour, excellent performances from the main cast, and a killer Michael Giacchino score. It's honestly one of my favourite action films, and crazily enough, we haven't even reached the series' peak yet!

It's a shame the producers eventually did Jeremy Renner dirty. He was being setup to take over the franchise once Cruise retired, but they changed their minds and tried to have Renner's character killed off in the most recent film. Renner refused to do it, and i can't say I blame him.

1:55 one thing I've never seen anyone talk about is the subtle testament, in this scene, to just how skilled Ethan Hunt is. He's casually, and accurately, bouncing a rock off two walls and catching it, as if it were a normal ball.

No. If you watch carefully at around 0:56, you can see him make a throwing motion toward the ground with his right hand right after he jumps (before he flips over and starts shooting). Presumably he threw a device in front of him that inflated rapidly once it hit the ground.

Addie your comment about the team was interesting. The original series in the 60s would start each episode with either Dan Briggs or Jim Phelps sorting through a dossier of the agent pool to select the team for that particular mission. Great reaction.

Also Ghost Protocol is the MI film that behooves Addie to watch a wholly separate franchise or era of a franchise at least, for reasons and I won't spil by saying more! Also, Addie, I will say is not yet done with a gritty film series of an amnesiac agent. Jus' sayin! You gotta see at least one more and then another! Cryptic but you'll connect the dots! @@GeorgeTropicana - This one emphasized how vital they all were and gave all of them (maybe short of Benji) backstories and higher relevance to the story. Ethan deliberately expresses so before handing out the phones in the end how much they were all needed.

With all due respect to the great movies that have followed, this one is just barely my favorite movie in the franchise. It took the great work they did in the third movie and just elevated it to a point where every movie is a must watch in theaters. I still get clammy hands watching the Burj Khalifa stunt. All the other films are a wild ride with amazing moments, so I am very excited to see you watch them all!

If I recall correctly, Ghost Protocol was originally going to be Cruise's last M:I movie. Brandt was being written in to take over as the main character going forward, and the leg injury that Ethan suffers during the climax here was going to be a career ender, putting him behind a desk as the new chief, for no more than quick cameo scenes. But about halfway through production, Cruise decided he was going to stick around as long as he could keep up this ever more physically demanding role, and the ending had to be tweaked to accomodate him. (Amusingly, Renner was also being set up to take over the Bourne franchise from Matt Damon, which also went nowhere.) And BTW you should consider for the next movies not to edit so much because it will lose some important scenes and the movies are going to be longer.

@@GeorgeTropicana Yeah but there was pretty visible CGI in that scene. While the bike jump was real, the train stuff looked really fake. I don't know how much they did for real (I don't think much since Hayley Atwell is in that scene), but the Burj Khalifa stunt was real (with safety cables, but otherwise Tom was really there). I was surprised how sloppy quality the CGI was in Dead Reckoning. You could notice it in several parts. In Top Gun Maverick, not visible at all (even when it had some CGI too). And also in previous MI movies, like Rogue Nation and Fallout not really noticeable CGI. Somehow the quality dropped for Dead Reckoning, maybe it was a Covid thing but I don't know why it affects also CGI

This is middle of the pack Mission Impossible for me. The Dubai sequence is excellent but the stakes and the villain are underwhelming. However I cannot wait for the Rogue Nation and Fallout reactions though as those films are outstanding.

TBH this is one of my favourite Mission impossible movies I also love rogue nation but I didn’t quite like fallout and I went to watch dead reckoning and I also didn’t like it i’m not gonna explain why but I’m just gonna say for me it was a bit confusing I was trying my best to listen to the plot and the story but I got pretty confused and BTW my dream is to meet Tom Cruise and tell him that my favourite movies that he’s in is both Top gun and Mission impossible

As long as it's a proper IMAX with the screen that actually justifies the IMAX cameras, then absolutely, it was unbelievable! Otherwise, it's just one of the cash-grab IMAX theaters, which there are far more of.
