@@jameseast294 Young and dumb? Of course we all were at one point. But there's a big difference between sneaking out of the house to go drink/smoke with your friends, and murdering someone who considered you a best friend with a kill kit ready to go in your trunk. It's punishment for one murder. So there's a chance that they might not do it again, maybe they'll realise their mistakes after being in prison for a couple of year. That's their thinking. Plus they were minors when they did it. So 30 years to life seems pretty decent.

When I was a child, there was a very painfully similair, horrific story unfolding just across the street I used to live at. A 14 or 15 year old girl disappeared for a week or so, before her absolutely mutilated, naked body was discovered in an aparment building space, where residents don't really go often. Turned out her two best friends, also 15ish girls at the time, had killed her in an unspeakably brutal manner, and had unseccessfully tried disposing of her body, in the process mutilating her even further. And all of that, because they didn't like how popular she was at school apparently, pretty, cheerful, well-liked, and rumor said there was a boy involved (as in he liked her, but was the love interest of one of the other girls or smth). Absolute tragic, 3 families destroyed, 1 life irrevertably lost, 2 - forever corrupt and depraved, countless friends and a whole nation left shaken and devastated! How...?! How do children get to this? How do can they come down to this conclusion, that erasing someone is an "option"? What needs to happen for them to even entertain this thought?!

the saddest part is every couple years the poor parents will have to continually be put through hell and attend parole hearings and stress of reliving it over and over. Justice system needs to have much stricter limits parole hearings for the victims families. the parents have a life sentence and these vicious, sociopaths get to spend their lives having every comfort the world offers prisoners now. Internet, ability to marry in prison and have conjugal visits, get medical care, get college degrees, great health care, tv and cable. Things many hardworking decent people cannot have. Prison to me means you lose all of life's privileges and comforts. You get 3 bland meals, hour of daylight, work yourself non stop, and can only check out a book occasionally for good behavior. But no these vile people are allowed to write books, profit, terrorize their victims from prison and live a better life than they did on the outside.

I remember this story. My Dad and I saw those two girls as psychopaths, and they never should've been given a possible parole date, especially the one that showed no remorse for what she did. I'm not a psychologist so I have no idea what causes a person to become a psychopath, but I know violence and bad parenting in the home can indeed screw up a child's mind and sense of right and wrong, as well as having respect and compassion for others. People like this are sick anyway you look at it unfortunately.

I'm tired of people always asserting that a child's misbehavior is the parent's fault. A child being a psychopath, as at least sheila seems to be, isn't something parents have control on. And it's true as well for less severe issues. I suspect that it's a way to assuage fear and keep thinking that the world is just : "bad things only happen to bad parents, and since I'm a good parent, my children will be fine." I believe that it isn't true. Good parents can have terrible children.

True, to a point...but overall, you can be 'The Best Parent on the Planet', and if anyone, adult OR child, is so Hell-Bent on doing wrong, it makes absolutely no difference, as to how they're raised, with very few exceptions. I'd be more concerned of 'The Company They Keep'. There are mean-ass criminal parents out there, but some of those kids actually turn out to be decent citizens. Probably rare as hell, but still possible.

I remember seeing this horrible story just after it happened years ago. It immediately reminded me of another tragic case that happened not far from where I live. It was the story of 12-year-old Shanda Sharer. What was done to that poor child by her "friends" was unimaginable. It was many hours of torture - pure evil! All because of the jealously of one evil person, at least at the time - Melinda Loveless. Two of the four perpetrators were sentenced to 60 years, one got 35 years (reduced from 60 on appeal), and one was sentenced to 20 years, maximum. The "ringleader," if you will, (Loveless) was paroled after 26 years, the other monster that had been sentenced to 60 years did 25 years, the girl that was sentenced to 35 years served 14, and the last girl did 9 years in prison. I just looked up the 'main' perpetrator / instigator, Loveless, and she's now 48-years-old and has been walking around a free woman for more than 4 years. She served her parole in the town in which I live, and, as far as I know, she still lives here. She may even still be on parole. I'd be surprised if she'd stay in this area if she's not on parole. That case happened in 1992. There's a 'Dateline' episode about the case, but if you watch it be prepared to be affected. I didn't read it all, but the Wikipedia article seems to be fairly complete, also. Sadly, Shanda Sharer's father, Steven Sharer, died of alcoholism in 2005 at the age of 53. There are obviously no excuses that can be made for the actions of those girls, but when everything came out in court it was shown how screwed-up most of their childhoods were. The father of Melinda Loveless, Larry Loveless, was arrested about a year after Shanda Sharer was brutally murdered, and he was charged with rape, sodomy, and sexual battery, with the state accusing him of abusing his wife, daughters, and other children. Due to the statute of limitations all but one charge, sexual battery, were dropped.

Sheila was a psychopathic narcissist and Rachel was just a manipulated pawn who was still in the love bombing phase and went along with whatever Sheila planned because she was her "bestie." It doesn't excuse Rachel's part in what was done to Skylar, but sociopaths do not have nervous breakdowns that lead to confessions of murder. And considering how little remorse Sheila exhibited during the trial indicates that she reveled in the attention and had no guilt whatsoever. Sociopaths can feel some moments of guilt, but psychopaths aren't capable of true remorse or empathy... they can mimic it very well but they don't experience it the same way most people do. Sociopaths have a better chance of responding well to therapy than psychopaths typically unless the affected party finds it absolutely necessary to change.

Anyways, same scenario pretty much, 2 friends plot and carry out murder on a 3rd, and the mastermind behind the plot then goes to comfort the poor girls grieving mom, and even weaseled her way into moving in with her. It just adds a completely different sickening level of evil to the entire thing.

I feel like I avoided a similar situation once in my life. I had 2 friends I was cool with but they had a friend who never liked me despite my best efforts, and one day they asked me to come over and hang out with them, but this third person who never liked me and was never nice me was being suspiciously nice and trying so hard to convince me to come over, but I denied the offer. A few months later for some reason I can't recall (I'm 25 now I was probably 17 or so then) we got into it on Instagram, she was being rude about my art and through messages she admitted to having mean intentions that day. She said they were all going to basically make fun of me the entire time behind my back/to my face and I still to this day think they were planning something much worse. To this day I don't have many friends and I have no faith or trust in anyone I meet. I can't say for sure they'd murder me but still, if there are and teenagers reading this, don't feel so alone and willing to do anything to fit in with a friend group. The chances of you having any of these friends into adulthood are so so small, and it's okay to be a loner. Get yourself into art, movies, and other forms of healthy expression and know that one day you'll have the love and acceptance all people long for. Life is a journey and all these mean people are just lessons to take at face value. Xoxo Also always love yourself enough to be okay with that bit of loneliness. You are valuable, you are strong, and you will have happiness in your life. 💓

I have to disagree, I believe shelia's narcissism would've eventually led to their being caught. Supposedly Skylar was really upset and confronted them and said she was going to tell people. So people think this is what motivated the girls to murder her. Again, i dont know if its true, but Id believe that Skylar at least told someone, and that person is the one giving this information. Watched this one quickly again since it popped up today. When he mentioned they are up for parole in (May) 2023, thought I would look into it. They are trying to play into the BS we all see going on these days. "During the testimony portion of the hearing, Shoaf said that she and Eddy were in a relationship, and felt that if they were exposed, they would face consequences." > Shoaf remains in the Lakin Correctional Center where her projected release date is April 2028. > Eddy is also serving her sentence in the same facility. Her first parole hearing is currently scheduled for May 2028.

The fact that nobody figured out that was Sheila's car in that video is insane. That's such an easy thing to determine and as soon as her mother was told that they "dropped her off around midnight" I immediately suspected that was a lie. If they’d just checked skylars phone records they’d been able to piece the puzzle together. They’d saw Rachel and shelia was the last people she talked to on her phone. Red flag. They’d realized the girls story about dropping her off at 12;30 was a lie because who texts and calls someone when they’re in person. (Skylar had a phone conversation with Rachel/shelia right before being picked up at 12:30). Then they could’ve realize that was shelia car in the video since they’re now suspects.

Wish Mr.Ballen talked about their social media, how Rachel broke down and went to the psychiatric hospital before confessing and then wiring herself up to get Shelia to confess (as she made a deal for a shorter sentence). How they had to be home schooled because rumors were going on about them at school and them being the ones who committed the crime, their “lesbian relationship” that was possibly the motive for the murder - that Skylar knew about. I found it it insane that also, Rachel went on a boat on a lake with her family and friends the next day and had pictures taken of her, and acted like everything was okay.

I very clearly remember this case. The 2 girls that killed her had a "secret" sexual relationship with one another and Skylar knew all about it. They didnt want Skylar around because the 2 girls were tremendously jealous of one another and always thinking that the each other liked Skylar too much and spent too much time with her. Also both were jealous about Skylar being around either of the 2 girls. They also didn't want Skylar to tell on them or talk about it to anyone else, so Skylar was an issue for them, an obstacle in their way and an obstacle in their relationship basically. So they decided on all of it and planned to kill her because of it. Check the details out. This was a tremendously heinous and devastating tragedy. 1st degree murder is what it truly was because they planned it ALL out, they lured her out, begged her to come that night with them and then acted on their plans to rob her of her innocent and beautiful life. ❤ RIP Skylar, you're an absolutely beautiful soul ❤ You deserved better in this life. TY so very much Mr.BALLEN, for sharing Skylar's story here and keeping her memory alive. *Edited/added* only the info below for clarification here: Skylar allegedly wrote in her diary that during a sleepover in her house she walked in on Sheila and Rachel having sex together. Skylar also wrote several different tweets to the effect of how, she would expose all of the s*it she knew if she could get away with it (because of how they were treating her so badly, but she still didn't tell exactly what it was on Twitter or who it was about, but the 2 girls obviously knew exactly what she meant) *Theres even a book written about this entire case out called "pretty little killers"* There was even a 20/20 dateline T.V episode on this case. You can check everything out about this all over, online too.
