Regarding conversations, I belive that Swedes have a shell and stay silent alot, but once we find something in common it's a good moment to start to talk. If you just see someone on the street we respect that you might be on your way somewhere and in public transportation you might be on your way home or being tired so we wont disturb you as a token of respect.. but if you're doing something that we share in common it's fine to talk to you... that's why it's always the best tip ever if you move to sweden: find an activity/hobby and you'll get friends. Even through work it might be hard depending on what you do for a living -because once work is done most just want to get home to their family... most swedes create friends during school and keep them through life. For me, as a shy kid during my younger days, I made only a handfull of friends and some of them fell out in bad situations (some not alive today) and I only have contact with 4-5 of them today -but I created more through my hobbies and can say that some of them are family at this moment.

That totally makes sense and I like that Swedes are very respectful of privacy.

The Swedish Vikings went east,unlike the Norwegian and Danish,and they are described as " the green trees" from texts in Ankara/Konstatinopel wich refereed to their tatooed limbs.

I live in Nacka, Saltsjö-Boo since about five years ago. I just love the nature here outside my doorstep like you. 👍That’s why I moved here. Earlier I lived in Sollentuna and before that in Stockholm city. But I am born and raised up in a smaller city close to the nature too. So nature belongs to my natural needs to feel comfortable.

One thing that's always good to choose when getting a tattoo is something related to your heritage. You will forever be this individual regardless of your interests or personality.

I'll give you a little answer to what you were surprised by. Swedes have tattooed themselves for a long time and you see it as a work of art on your body and it is important. My eldest daughter has tattooed a tough warrior woman on one of her arms holding two large swords, this symbolizes that she does not take shit from anyone and is herself strong and tough, my second youngest daughter (I have four daughters), she has tattooed as a painting on one arm with an owl that is common up here in Lapland, and a horn that lights up by fire and then there is the northern lights. It symbolizes that she is from Lapland and loves and is proud to be born in Kiruna. When it comes to sweets, the Swede eats the most sweets in the whole world and it was calculated that every Swede eats an average of 15 kilos. Then when you were surprised that we move so much, it's because the government introduced that you would move more, you would not get so sick. The government has encouraged companies to allow their employees to have health care during working hours and that companies pay too little so that employees can go and train. The companies that do this can make tax deductions for this, thanks to the Swedes moving more, cardiovascular disease is reduced and the risk of other diseases is reduced. When it comes to us Swedes being reserved, it is not true, but it all depends more on those who move to Sweden or visit, what body language you signal and facial expressions. You say how people can start talking to your partner, it depends on his body language. Then when you talk about that you have changed from being a state woman to liking the country and nature more, some part depends on nature here but you have gotten older and you become more sensitive to hectic and noisy environment but want more silence and calm. I know this after studying psychology.

Wow, great to hear about the thoughts behind your daughters' tattoos! And yes, I'm sure I like the countryside more and more with each year I get older. Now I understand my parents better ;)
@ingvartorma9789

@@LivingSwedish When I wrote about the tattoos, it's about two of my daughters. Yes, now you understand your parents and become more like them. Just listen to the people around you, and you will hear that younger people and especially young girls are who you were, hate the countryside and want to go to the big cities. At the same time, you will hear how older people want to move out of big cities to the countryside and the tranquility. Now because of the pandemic, we humans are re-evaluating what is most important. As you both read about in newspapers and listen to the news in Sweden, you want to move out and have bigger houses, to be able to work from home. Than living in big cities in smaller homes and being at work every day.

Sweden is exceptional regarding tattoos. In most of the western world having a tattoo is considered low-class or for a person with alternative lifestyles, but in Sweden it's considered cool.

Tattoo’s; maybe I’m wrong but I think this wasn’t popular/common in the 80ies and this is a fairly recent trend. When I was young someone being tattooed would have surprised me. It’s slowly become so much more common you almost expect people in their 20-30ies to have a tattooed. Wonder if SCB or someone has statistics on this, hmm… 🤔 Saturday sweets (Lördagsgodis) is a tradition that children are only allowed to buy sweets on Saturday and then they either eat all on Saturday or try to just eat a little bit per day to have a little candy all week. But adults can off course do what ever they want.

Swedes don't have a deep history when it comes to tattoos. I think the tattoo trend started in the late 80's, before that only sailors, drifters and criminals had tattoos, and those tattoos were horrifically bad and ugly.

I'd say we aren't reserved if we have a context so if you have a group and a context like work it's easier to start talking and keep talking and make friends. If a stranger out of nowhere without any context start talking to me about the weather or anything like that I'll be weirded out and maybe a bit annoyed.

I would have a lot of tattoos if I was not so afraid of needles. I have been mainly thinking of using the depictions as a record of my life. Small things. The thing that has been sticking with me for the longest was to tattoo what was my favourite fruit at the time. Then a few years later build on that tattoo with whatever my current favourite fruit is. Then keep going like that.
