I saw Eric Clapton in concert last year. Not only was his playing and singing still great, he hired the highest quality musicians for his band. He did not skimp on what was necessary for the music and he worked his rear end off. He took the performance of the music dead seriously with great respect for both the audience and the music. I mean, how can you not love this guy? By the way he didn’t just participate in the Jeff Beck tribute concert, he was the one, with the permission of JB’s widow, who put the concert together at the suggestion of Rod Stewart. He was also the one many years who put together the George Harrison tribute concert; not Paul McCartney, not Ringo Starr, but Eric frickin’ Clapton. Seriously, how can you not love this man?
Although his addiction is mention many times here nothing is mentioned about Crossroads- his annual concerts and the rehabilitation center he formed. Disappointed
From a drug addict and hopeless alcoholic to a decent man who plays decent blues guitar and spends time and money helping other in need. His recovery center in the Caribbean and his Crossroads music festival are both fantastic. Nothing but respect for the man these days.

Eric peaked in Cream when he was playing his Les Paul/SG. Wheels of Fire's Live album has some great guitar work in Spoonful and Crossroads. He never matched that intensity with those Strats he was playing. August is the only album I have of his solo albums, and that is solid from start to finish. Didn't know he had a daughter, though, and other facets of his personal life have been out there for a while. He always struck me as a bit of a lone wolf, and his ability to learn acoustic playing at a relatively high level seems to have evened out his guitar skills, something Page and Townsend had shown their entire careers. I wish Eric all the best, both going forward and looking beyond.

I met him a long time ago as he sat right next to me at a concert .and he was very kind to me. Over the years he has become increasingly anti-social and avoids all encounters with the media or fans.. he doesn;t owe us anything but he could smile once in a while.

And J.Beck has almost only played well-known cover songs for the last 40 years, but has received the highest fees as a solo guitarist! Never heard it on an acoustic guitar without all the trickery with mechanical or electric sound effects. But at least much more exciting/interesting than Clapton.😉
