I remember the first avocado I had in 1964. I bought it from a street vendor in Manchester England and it was called avocado pear and I also bought a Chinese gooseberry which is now known as a kiwi fruit. I spent my birthday money on them. I took them home and called on Grandma to share them. We didn't know how to slice the avocado and cut the top off and tried peeling it. We thought it wasn't ripe because it wasn't sweet and we were surprised with the huge stone in the middle. We enjoyed the Chinese gooseberry, kiwi. We cut that in half and scooped the fruit out with a small spoon.

However, when I came to learn from a natural doctor that avocado contain oils that prevent inflammation (that lead to heart disease and joint pain) and can lower cholesterol, as well they are filling and thus can prevent over eating, I learn to eat one, or half of one every day. I break my fast with this followed by some nuts - very good for the aging body :)

Lemon juice, a little olive oil, salt and pepper. They're great and I eat them several times a week. Very beneficial for health too. Suspend the seed over a glass of water using toothpicks, ensuring bottom half is covered in water, and it'll sprout and grow. You have to grow several to ensure pollination for fruit as there are male and female flowers and they don't necessarily open at the same time. I've sprouted several avacado trees doing this.

These villagers are so innately wise, their assessment of avocado could not have been more accurate for people who'd never tried it before. Definitely a nutty flavour, difficult to describe like the taste of water, and definitely enhanced with a sprinkle of salt. These avys looked a bit underripe. Maybe next time you can have them try it in a guacamole, as an accompaniment, or even spread on toast. The seeds can actually be boiled into a beautiful red tea which contains all the same nutrients as the avys themselves. Avocados for life! 🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑

Having grown up with 54 avocado trees in my front yard , there are good varieties and there are not as good varieties (we had 4 different ones). Hass is generally considered the best tasting one (my personal favorite) and Fuerte is good tasting plus it's the one we had the most of because they are also the best producing (I would guess about 200 pounds per year per tree) . As for just eating avocado without other things , if you ask me it needs a bit of salt but I like it mashed and put on toast with a little salt and maybe some diced jalapenos in the mix .

My Dad used to love avocados after learning to eat them in California and Hawaii during World War II He liked to fill the cavity left after the seed is removed with either Heinz Chili Sauce or Ketchup to give in some taste. I take it one step further and use it for shrimp cocktail, filling the avocado with cocktail sauce and sticking four good sized shrimp tails head first in the sauce. After dipping and eating the shrimp there is enough sauce left to give flavor to the scooped out avocado

Hello friends from Los Angeles! As avocados are Huge here, they must be eaten at the right time. Much like a banana🍌- eaten too early and they are hard and not very edible, eaten after they are overripe, they will be mushy and not very tasty. They are best, when they are darker in color and semi-soft 🥑 The only one that looks like it's ripe is Rana's. Avocados are healhy, rich, creamy, and buttery! Salt and Peppers should be added as well to bring out the flavor. Avocado chunks/slices can be added to salads/vegetables/meats/rice bowls/hamburgers/sandwiches, etc... and can be mashed and added to toast or made into guacamole :P to eat with tortilla chips/quesadillas/nachos. They can also be added to smoothies or chocolate for desserts/mousse for a healthy twist ☺

They have to be ripe for one thing. I don't think those were ripe. I love avocado diced up in a salad or sliced and put on top the meat in a sandwich. A bit of lemon or lime juice squeezed onto plain avocado is really nice as well.

Fun fact: Avocados have such large seeds because they evolved alongside huge sloth like animals that became extinct when humans arrived in the Americas. The animals were large enough to eat the fruit whole and spread the seeds in their dung.

Our Avocados are green when harvested but are ripe when they turn Black . Another way to make sure they are ripe is give a little squeeze if they are soft they are ripe if hard wait a day or 2.

My family and I LOVE avocados! I have a bag full of them in my refrigerator right now. We mostly make guacamole dip with them, but also slice them for sandwiches, or put them into smoothies. I don't eat a lot of sugar and the easiest way to make a really tasty guacamole is to mash two ripe avocados, and add two tablespoonsful of Tostitos brand (no sugar, really yummy) salsa. Voila! Instant guac., no fuss. We dip blue corn tortilla chips into it or a variety of veggies like cauliflower/broccoli/grape tomatoes/jicama/celery/red, orange or yellow pepper/carrot sticks, etc. Great snack or party dish. Avacados are really good for you. 😀

I'm new to eating avocados myself and I was told not to eat the green ones. They need to sit for 2-3 days for it to turn black. Once it turns black, eat it right away as it goes bad quickly thereafter. I eat them with salt and pepper and they are good that way. Any time eating new fruit, you need to find out when it is ripe. Not every fruit is the same.

For the good doctor: collect the avocado pits and clean all the avocado fruit off but make sure the brown skin (seed cover) is still on. Stick three toothpicks into the sides, then balance the seed on the top of a glass with water coming up about halfway on the pit. Make sure the slightly pointier end is the top, and the flat end is the bottom. The bottom of the seed goes into the water where the root will come out and the leaves will grow after that out of the top. Be patient, it takes about 6 to 8 weeks for the seed to sprout. Don't let the root dry out, but don't cover the entire seed with water. Put it in a sunny place like a windowsill, but not too hot - sun can make the water almost boiling, so you might want to "shade" your glass with some paper to protect the root. When the first leaves come out, wait until the second or third set grows, then pinch the top leaves out. That will make the young tree branch out and become stronger. When it's about 15 cm tall, with good leaves and good roots, plant in a large pot with half of the seed sticking up from the soil, you don't want to bury it completely. Water it well to keep the potting mix moist but don't drown it. Keep pinching out leaves as it grows to encourage it to become bushier. Avocado plants don't like cold weather or frost, so in winter you should take it indoors. This will be more of a novelty plant than anything you'll get much fruit from. It'll take anywhere from three years to 15 before you get any fruit, and some will never have fruit. Avocados do better when you have several for pollination. I spent time as a child in southern California where we had a huge and very old avocado tree in our back garden, hundreds of avocados fell on the ground every year, we couldn't eat them all. Now they're a delicacy for spreading on toast like jam, and are so expensive!

In the state of Florida, U.S. we sometimes called them Alligator pears because the skin resembles that of an alligator. When soft and ripe the fruit has a taste somewhat like eggs. Would really like to see what the wives would make with them.

😄 That was fun! I'm sure you're planning to serve them Guacamole Dip (made with ripe, soft avocados) with corn Tortilla chips to show them some of what the avocado can become. That would be great to see. This recipe looks fine but I would add more salt until it tastes good. There are many different versions but this is one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r3NGZGpYfZs.html
