I wish this one song was more popular. It would endear us railway buffs (men and women) to the beauty of G&S. It truly is a forgotten G&S masterpiece which needs a revival.
The original Thespis score is no longer with us, of course. This transplant of music from the second act of The Grand Duke doesn't quite make it for me. I'm becoming more convinced that scores from modern composers done in the Sullivan style work best with Thespis.
Hello from Eastbourne G&S in the UK! We are making a 'Beginner' Guide to G&S' video and need footage of Thespis, as we have never yet attempted to stage it. Would you be willing to let us use some clips from this version? We would of course credit your society. Please email us EastbourneGilbertandSullivan@gmail.com if you can help. Many thanks.
