Each to their own but when you look at all the food combinations available now in 2024 why would anyone choose to eat this combination of a bread roll filled with emulsified trimmings of beef pork and chicken along with other emulsified infused ingredients There are now so many other options which don’t rely on byproducts
@jenniferstrachan7084 it's 2024 what are you eating that healthy? Everything is filled with chemicals and bi products.. your organic fruits and vegetables even if they make it to the store without chemicals guess what the store sprays them with chemicals to last longer 🤣🤣🤣 You're not safe unless you're literally growing your own food and even then you're seeds have been altered already. They even started touching the wild animals even deer meat isn't safe
I’ve been working in restaurants or around restaurants for 20 years. There’s one thing that is consistent across the board whether it’s hot dogs or fine dining-if you have an owner like this guy that loves his business and connects to the customers, you’re gonna be successful
I beg to differ. Pretty much everyone who opens a new restaurant has a passion for their food and loves people yet so many restaurants go under in the first year. It's great food at great prices first and foremost.
he probably hasnt eaten that stuff in decades when I worked fast food I couldnt stomach the stuff. Even when I quit it was like a year before I had it again
You don't get fat from eating just meat and bread in moderate amounts. That's from being lazy and shoving obscene amounts of calories, usually sugar, into your mouth.
I remember the 1st time I visited Rutt's hut they asked me where was I from. Coney Island they was so nice hooked me up with some rippers, potato salad, and homemade relish washed it down with a birch beer soda I ❤ Rutt's Hut
If a cook ever says "imma give you what i make myself" just know you're about to try something magnificent. Likely one of the best things that restaurant has to offer. Cooks spend enough time there to know what's good.
I've been going to Rutts for 40 years. It started out as our go to spot at 2am after clubbing, to taking my daughter there when she was younger... indelible experiences. In fact, I don't think they have ever remodeled or painted. The building looks condemned... but you can't beat their rippers! That mustard relish is the real deal to top'em off! I know that guy... he's the best!
I lived and worked in New Jersey for five years. My apartment was just a few blocks from Rutt's Hut. I ate many a hot dog there. They were great 'dogs. True story: They were going to relocate a highway and were going to demolish Rutt's Hut via eminent domain to make way for the relocated road. There was outrage amongst the populace! The local Congressman forced the State to CHANGE THE PLAN FOR THE ROAD so as to leave Rutt's Hut untouched. Pretty amazing place. Great dogs.
My husband is from Paterson, NJ. I'm from VA. He took me there and it blew my mind. Best hot dog I've ever had. He has been eating there since he was young. He loves it and tells everyone about the place.
@sherriefetterman1051 as good as that shiiiiif looks and I'd that sodium is the silent killer ya feel me.. I just had a stroke like a month ago and now I'm preaching like a salty minister just doing ny thing hating on folks. I'm not even over weight I'm just from New Orleans with bad eating habits, that's all.....bad living is finally catching up with ya boy
Speaking of never change... Idk if it's entirely true but I've always heard the secret to their dogs tasting good is because they haven't changed the oil since opening in 1928 lol
Selling deep fried hot dogs and giving heart attacks for 96 years 😂 Nasty! Wouldn’t touch that ! The people who eat these are the ones who eat McDonald’s and kfc still
Unfortunately there is so little history in the US of A that he hasn't kept it nice and shiny and new. Those dogs = 60 cents to make with ketchup, relish bread and all; even counting the hut and electricity. All in cash from hand to hand ..... Surprising he hasn't been mobbed by the local mafia yet. Those people LOVE cash deals to launder their dirty money.
I was never a big hot dog fan but a co-worker insisted I go there with him to try these dogs 15 years ago and it was the best decision I made that day! Lol Just started working back in Secaucus again 2 months ago and have been there 4 times already. Great hot dogs, their famous relish is a must try on your dogs, and the place hasn't changed a bit in 96 years. If you ever get a chance to go, you won't regret it. Will always be my favorite hot dog joint ever!
@@JoineeJoan Yeah, greed. That’s the idea that kicks in. Before you know it your eating a fake pre-made sack of shit. “You give us money and we give you garbage and you don’t get upset. “
This is the curse of capitalism. Capitalism is fantastic until everything is bought up and consolidated. When you own a business, earning a living is the goal, as soon as you're a company and have shareholders, profits don't matter, it's all about growth, you either swallow the little guy or be swallowed. Think of the game monopoly, eventually one person owns everything. This is what we are approaching today. The end game of capitalism. We missed the food times, 1950 to about 1980, it's been down hill since then.
Rutt's Hut...any time I have a rough week, I stop by this place and get 2 rippers with a lather of the magic relish, chili with no beans and a birch...and I'm back. Rutt's HUT is in the happiness business
Me and my son had a moment to meet bill on our way back from a trip to pickup some computer hardware. He is one of the most laid back, cool headed dudes in the business. He treats everyone in his restaurant with respect, especially his employees which is awesome to see! Oh, and yeah The hotdogs are amazing.
my Hispanic grandma always fried hotdogs and I loved it. It wasn't until I was about 18, 19 that I started eating out at fast food joints and discovered that every place boils their hot dogs. I was extremely confused and kinda grossed out tbh. deep fried or pan-fried with some oil tastes better and enhances the flavors more so than boiling them.
I love boiled dogs with a steamed bun and mustard/onions but I grew up by a place like this that fried foot longs and toasted buns on the flat top with the burgers. They're too good.
Love places like this. Not everything has to be five star formal. Family establishment and love to support them and hope they go on another 100 years. ❤
Man this like the third video I’ve seen of you at some legit spot. Bourdain would be proud brother. Keep shining light on the gems in the rough my man.
@@bench-clearingbrawl7737 Trump was honestly the least bad, at least no wars and I wasn't afraid of dying in a war or losing all my money, especially since NJ was being fought for its stupidity
Trump was equally as bad! He supports human trafficking by supporting DeSantis in lying to migrants and shipping them against their Will to different parts of cities and towns across America and promising them fake documents. That’s human trafficking, TRUMP SUPPORTED DESANTIS! Trump also gave money for Afghanistan and Iraq war in the early 2000’s. Trump gave money to Israel for military defense weapons. Trump is a racist bigot as well. If you support Trump you support human trafficking and racism! Period
Best damn place for a hot dog. This man is always there and he is the real deal. Thank you Bill for these amazing dogs. Drop in and grab a dog and become a fan .
"What's the common denominator - we all eating hotdogs brother". Solid words. Common (we are the same) . .eating (breaking bread with someone is spiritual and respectful) . . and calling you brother (we are family - love/care). One sentence speaking from the heart - hell yeah.
I haven’t even had one and I can tell these are official. I’m a lonnngggg standing customer of Detroit’s famous Lafayette Coney Island and I can see these have the “snap” and “pop” factor. I love that ish!!!
“we’re not open 96 years if we’re doing something wrong” is such an audacious statement. Like with context of his previous line telling the guy to have faith, it exudes confidence, but knowing how empires fall it seems so trivial that a hot dog shop survived 96 years. He’s one aware dude i love it
Got introduced to you by Righteous Eats, your channel is exactly what I love about food journalism. Stories, legacy and good food. Keep doing your thing boss !!
having been living around the new england area i agree with you. His voice just got that character to it that makes you feel like you're pulled over on the side of the road talking to an old friend
I love the owners energy .. he don’t tip toe around his sentences and he’s got heart that shows .. wish we had more people like this in Southern California, and that’s all I’ll say about that ..
You should have more likes. Born and raised in OC but live in vegas... wish we had more ppl like that in vegas. Ps. Id make the trek just to have those dogs.
This place made it on Diners Drive Ins and Dives, and on my local PBS channel that did features on Ice Cream,Routes across America, Amusement Parks, and Hot Dogs, and Diners.....production created in Pittsburgh. It's the Real Deal Folks!
@@MrNickwilliams1 yeah.....search Rick Seaback or Pittsburgh Public TV ....maybe WQED?......produced in the 90's. It was Diners Drive Ins and Dives, while Guy Fieri was selling Popcorn as a 12 year old. Rick does Rt 66, Hot Dogs, Ice Cream, Ateepemusement Parks, and Road Side Oddity s.....like Houses shaped like a Shoe, or Giant Wigwam Teepees, or old 1930's Motor courts......really Cool
For people who don't know and want to try something similar to this just tell your local cook to drop your polish or hotdogs in grease for a little bit and it will blow your mind how much better it tastes with that crunch. They do it in chicago.
@@morrismonet3554 well most people don't have a deep fryer at home. If your ordering a polish or hotdog at a restaurant believe it or not it doesn't even cross people's minds that they could put it in the deep fryer. Nice try trying to be a comedian though.
DUDE! I've came across this short a dozen times and I watch at least 3 times back to back and literally laugh and get hungry every time!!!! I wish I could go to FU*CKING RUTTS HUT!!!!😂
@@Tortilla.Reform you don't need to be white to gain that Jersey swagger. Look at all the successful Middle Easterners and South Asians in the state, visit Main St. Paterson, Oak Tree Rd. Edison, etc. Jersey is the best state for all kinds of food, especially ethnic varieties.
Absolutely worth it. While you're in that town you'll also be less than 10 mins from A+ pizza A+ indian food A+ Latin food (Dominican, Puerto Rican, Peruvian, cuban) A+ italian A+ sandwiches A+ bagels The food in NJ Is unbelievable, and Clifton is a really f'in good representation of that. Huge city with a melting pot of culture
I lived in Clifton and have been going to Rutts Hut since 1956! Best fried dog ever and I have been to many, many hot dog huts. Also the best toppings!
Here is a guy who's made a big deal about his craft. Getting it right over what sounds like generations of proud family business. He is proud and good on ya. He has passion. Thanks mate. Live a bit far away or I'd drop in for a culpa, but we deep fry Mars bars for a quick heart attack. Yummy!😊
