I believe you could put this in a museum as art. Especially given the background of trucks and how static they've been for so long. If this sells well (not talking pre-orders), it will vastly change the landscape of truck design from this point, and it will be incredible to look back on in 20-50 years from now given how hard it was to even accomplish in it's time.

I can recomment Hagerty's review. The Cybertruck just follows the rule: Design follows function in the most extreme way. They had to make the body minimalistic, because you cannot shape the stainless steel panels like modern panels, which are a specific alloy. Its amazing how much innovation and forward-thinking this specific car has. 48 Volt electric system to save copper wiring. Steer-by-wire like in an airplane, speed-adaptive steering. 4 wheel steering, new battery-technology, driving dynamics, etc..list goes on. New tech is always risky, but i guess, some of the concepts will set new standards in automotive history. Its a cool car which does maybe not look good (i personally like it), but impresses with its inner values...

Almost surreal that they really put this thing into production. The Ford truck looks like from the 90's compared to the Cybertruck. Quantum leaps in design doesn't happen very often but I do see some parallels in architecture, Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion and FL Wright's Falling Water House and Guggenheim Museum. Now that Tesla has come this far I would think they can keep the radical engineering thinking on their next project- the $25K EV. They will really have to develop low-cost, high volume production to be able to make it for a profit. Mega cast chassis and no body paint? It could be a really interesting future.

Bring up an on-line inflation calculator: $40,000 base Cybertruck in 2018 would be $49,000 today. So almost 1/2 of the base price increase is inflation. Then consider that Tesla historically drops prices after production has ramped. A lot of R&D went into this truck, and I expect the real beneficiaries will be owners of the low cost car currently in development. Just as the real beneficiaries of the Model S R&D are the Model 3 / Model Y owners.

I don't get what's so incredible from an engineering standpoint? Unibody design? Seeing the understructure in the production photos seems not very uncommon. The panel pressing operation? Not so special in comparison to some crazy stuff like some Peugeot/Citroën aluminium rear control arms. The drive units are pretty much standard, steer by wire, Infinity Q50, Toyota bZ4X got it too, Mercedes introduced it in the F200 in 1992, parametric steering was available in the 1993 S-Class too. Suspension is standard. The use of 3X stainless steel is also not very innovative, it's kitchen sink material, not bad, but not a marvel. @The1SSGrant Yes, I get the point. But listening to the marketing yadda yadda makes me feel a bit... fooled, because everything is praised being innovative, but there is hardly any real innovation in it. But I have to admit, producing these panels as flat as they are is not an easy feat. Especially hiding the spot weld deformation after adding the panel reinforcements to prevent buckling. If it is spot welding at all, it might be glued on. But this is done in Audis for at least 17 years as well, in their case to bond aluminium to steel. Mercedes invented a new way to weld an aluminium roof on a steel body with lasers on the past C-Class, that's crazy stuff, but nobody cared, because it's an old boring company. 😅 I am not negative about the fuzz around the Cybertruck, I just don't get it 🤔 But I know the marketing people in our company, they really like to tell "stories" as they call it 😂

I'm blown away, despite the lack of the integrated tailgate ramp and rear squat. So build a lightweight sleeping platform on top of the battery and use the area underneath the platform for storage. A bed tent provides a lot of headroom. Many people who camp, off-road or do over-landing, use folding tents on bed racks so their truck bed can be used for camping gear. It's a good way to use your bed space efficiently.

i think people are mistaking shocking/different design for good design here. after these become more common to see on the road the shock value will wear off. its not "bad" design but its definitely not beautiful or stimulating to look at. this reminds me of "futuristic" product designs from past decades that just look out of proportion and unnecessarily abstract today. i think years from now this will be seen from a design stand point similar to how we see the plymouth prowler now.

I was a landscape/ construction foreman for a long time, and we built huge, top notch projects, all over the state. For guys like us, 440 miles of range just wouldn't cut it! Especially when you consider were towing a gooseneck trailer with a front end loader or similar..... and we have lots of electric tools we're gonna want to run all day... So I'd really really like to see an option of buying stackable lithium batteries you can put in the bed and on trailer to extend the range out to 600 miles plus charging. That would probably make the difference as to whether or not we'd have purchased. Now I work in Healthcare, but I'm just saying. 440 will be a deal breaker for a lot of contractors who need to go to job sites that are an hour and a half away, which was the norm for pretty much every landscape, construction, especially maintenance vehicles, which maintenence are the most common, and you're driving to 5 job sites from orange county to long Beach to Newport, to back because a customer needed something. Need max range!

If you ever want Tesla to get you a car to review, i suggest for your next video you review whats IN the car and what it can do as opposed to how it looks. The 48 Volt architecture is a game changer in the auto industry. Cybertruck requires 1/4 the wiring that any other car this big would need because of it. The Steer by Wire is a first for a mass produced car as well. There is NO physical connection from the steering wheel to the tires. at low speeds it can corner like a go kart, and on highways the tires turns together to change lanes smoothly. There is SO much new tech in this thing it boggles the mind.

Honestly, I like the cybertruck as a design, for some reason I like bricks and blocks so, a reason I like older trucks too. If Tesla just made the bed flat versus the steep ass angle, I would genuniely have no major problems with it. A truck bed should be easily accessible and utilitarian, you can't exactly strap down to your wheel wells or tie downs evenly with that steep grade. I could 100% get behind the angular and blocky design if it had the standard rectangular bed. A 6' bed is good enough for a truck. My 01 Ram has a 6'5, drop the gate and you can have 8'. Seeing as most 4 door trucks today have a 5'5/6'' bed due to cab sizes, I can be satisfied with 6'. My dad's new Tacoma has a 6' bed and it's pretty good. I know making the bed flat would counteract Bembli's idea of "getting away from the standard" but, I'm sure most people agree that if it was a flat space they'd have a better opinion on it as a TRUCK and not a vehicle.

The Cybertruck follows the Brutalist design philosophy. Brutalism is derived from Breton Brut, meaning raw concrete in French. The design philosophy embodies that origin through simple and in-your-face shapes and forms and unpainted yet smooth finishes. Brutalist designs aren't the prettiest in the world but they do stick out and really break their surroundings with their presence. The Cybertruck is doing just that with its design. I quite like it. It's a different spin on a truck and it looks capable as hell. I want one

One thing I love and would like to get one Cybertruck myself is if buy car base on its design nowadays is like buying mainly for the lamps designs because most car looks nearly the same within the typical proportion of its class and only now Cybertruck looks like not a typical template car that looks not much different to each other on road from a distance and you buy it for that design and also it's lamps designs! But can you make the back wall between backseat and truck passthrough so you can lay down and sleep in the car? But it is scary in it for that because if the software goes wrong what if the retracting truck cover go down and cut or damage your legs while you sleeping?
