Fun fact: Ghost won Grammy's with this song, which I'm not surprised cause this is banger Tobias (the creator and lead singer) has said that this song is about church's manipulation, hiding under the cover of what may seem as a love song ("Cant you see that you're lost without me?")
Ya know what’s hilarious to me about this is that I’m an ex-Christian and this was my first Ghost song. To me, this song always felt like Satan singing a song to me about being loved an accepted 😂 “I know your soul is not tainted even though you’ve been told so” always resonates as “I know everyone in the church told you how worthless you were, but I see your darkness and value you no matter what.” That’s my personal interpretation
@demondaddy328 this is exactly how I interpreted it as well, which is a big reason as to why Ghost resonates so hard with me. Satan Prayer's "Hear our Satan prayer, our anti-nicene creed" is one their most meaningful lyrics to me because I finally felt accepted by someone after leaving the church and disappointing most of my family. This song (Cirice) is another one that makes me feel loved and appreciated for who I truly am.
Yup always make sure to be front row at a Ghost concert. Cause we dunno how they will interact. Unfortunately lately since covid they haven't besides Cirice. Body and Blood with the sisters of sin interacting with the crowd is what got me into them, but sadly I haven't been able to experience anything like that.
"Cirice" is old english for "church" , so this song is about how the church manipulates people into what is basically a toxic relationship, that's why it kinda sounds like a love song if you don't pay enough attention, they start by saying nice things like "I know your soul is not tainted, even though you've been told so" BUT the key line here is "Can't you see that you're lost without me?" You should react to "Ritual" next
I've heard the explanation of the songs lyrics, but not that Cirice was just old english for church, thats interesting. I would just assume it was latin for a few reasons. But makes perfect sense.
It also meant a pagan temple. And just from my experience in various churches (both Protestant and Roman Catholic), Christian churches don’t generally make it a habit to tell people their souls are not tainted, but rather quite the opposite. I think the song can cut both ways given this added context. It doesn’t really matter if it’s religious or secular-people are subjected to constant manipulation. Just my Christian perspective.
If you want more "heavy" Ghost, you HAVE TO check out their best song, Faith. Watch the official lyric video instead of the music video, because that version uses the original album version instead of the radio edit, which cuts short one of their very best, proper KILLER guitar solos.
@@dillonfehr7545I second Mummy Dust. The political undertones (including the infamous Trump callout "we'll be grabbing them all by their hoohahs", lmao) mixed with the harsher rock is just so well done. Also, everytime the background singers say "Twenties" my mind's eye imagines a bunch of demons popping up in the background waving their arms and it always makes me laugh, lmao.
Which isn't the actual pronunciation of the Old English word. Ghost intentionally appropriated the pronunciation in the intro to sound like a name. Ryker Road were close to the actual pronunciation
@@DaP84It might not be how the word is actually pronounced, but when talking about the song it's pronounced seh-reece(/reese). Very easy to understand, right?
The title of the song is old English for “church” which is on brand for them. The song and band really blew up when they won a Grammy for this song by beating, among others, “Custer” by Slipknot
More Ghost, please and thank you! Their music videos are the best, specially the one for Dance Macabre! Been to two live Ghost shows and I have never seen a better performance live!
Cirice (SUH-REESE) is the name of the little girl. When she pauses before entering the auditorium, her mother says "Hurry up Cirise, we're going to be late," and you can clearly hear how her name is pronounced.
Ghost is incredible live! I've seen them three times, one during a festival, one opening for Metallica and the last time they were headlining and man, what a difference between the other ones this was. I mean, the first two were really cool, but seeing them headlining with all their stuff on stage, playing one and a half hour and in a big venue was clearly something else. The crowd was great and the band played so well. It's a band that you don't want to miss when they play near you, it's such a fun and great show everytime
This is BY FAR my favorite Ghost song, and I love Ghost. Tobias is brilliant. Ghost's efforts to lean so thematically Satanic, while maintaining 80s-level cheese, and entertaining all the while... no one does it better.
As people have said, 'Cirice ' is the name of the little girl and when this is played live he will lean down to a girl in the front of the crowd and grabs their hand like in the video. Fans call it to be 'Ciriced' there are quite a few youtubes of it on the internet. There is a super cute one of him choosing a fans little 6 daughter year old daughter in his hands and she just looks back at her mother who is filiming and has the widest grin. Was really wholesome. Core memories unlocked for sure!
I love ghost so much, i hope you're able to react to more of their stuff. I highly recommend watching their live performances eventually, Papa always picks someone to sing to during the quiet more intimate parts of Cirice and it's amazing. Back in the day at smaller venues he was able to reach out and hold their hand, but bigger venues make that impossible. They're also releasing a movie eventually with live footage from shows!
if you’re planning on doing more ghost in the future, i would recommend Watcher In The Sky, Respite On The Spitalfields, or Year Zero! it’s very hard to find a miss with this band, hope you guys enjoy it!
i dropped everything to watch this the moment i saw the thumbnail!! came to this channel for ghost, stayed for sleep token, very excited to see ghost here again :) edit: great video, thank you, i will start commenting on youtube regularly for the first time for more ghost. i wasn't sure about cirice to begin with either (loved it but didn't find it as repeatable as some others), but it's now one of my favourites and i could listen to the guitar solo all day. the grammy was deserved!
Guitar/keyboard solo is awesome! I've taught myself the first melodic part that ends with the descending line, up until guitar becomes a bit more busy. Have played it for years, need to learn the rest of it, I'm too lazy lol
@@DaP84 that's so cool! i only play piano but am planning to take up guitar, and it's 100% ghost's fault lmao. this will be a priority once i do. playing the whole thing would be amazing, best of luck to you if you decide to try it out 👍
Cirice is one of my favorite Ghost songs. The feeling when he sings "Can't you see that you're lost...? Can't you see that you're lost without me?" just sends chills down my spine. Also, if you get a chance to see them live, do so. They put on a spectacular show.
I saw Ghost approximately 5 years ago. I went for one of the opening acts and had never heard of Ghost before. But they put on a great show and I loved them ever since!
If I could experience Ghost for the first time again, I would. I’ve seen them live twice, both shows during the same tour cycle. Let me tell you, I had just as much fun at the second show even tho it was the same set list as the first. They are just that damn good!!
I love the live shows for this song the band does something called 'getting cireced' which is when papa lead singer will reach out to an audience member and basically sing it specifically to YOU only, is the best way to describe it, this happens at 5:48 and I think it's super sweet that one person gets the song verse specifically sang to them ❤ if any other ghost fans have things to add or correct please do!
I saw them in Dallas last August - unbelievable!!!!!! I’m a 57 year old lady - my husband is the metal head. I’m more alternative - even now. Something about this band just draws you - the over the top theater etc ……. But the music is superior in every way - lyrics are true and hard hitting. I might mention that I had been drinking wine with my sister in law and bought the concert tickets - -$500 worth!!! Took 2 weeks to tell him. Not sure who enjoyed it more!!!!!!!! I can also add that we are so f’nn preppy but the crowd was amazing!!! Very accepting to our age and vibe. Just love them!❤
Pretty sure Cirice is pronounced in modern English as "sa-rees" and it's old English for "Church" and the song explains the dynamic of abusive relationships between Churches and manipulating the youth into thinking they're sinners when in reality we all know children are innocent. To a certain extent the concept of morality doesn't apply to them because they cannot grasp it. I also think its speaking from the devils perspective in Ghost lore so it's a bit double entendre because Ghost paint their version of Satan as the good guy and in Cirice he tries to lure the youth to their religion and away from the church that manipulates them. But the concept of churches manipulating youths in real life and how accurate this song portrays that is honestly scary
I had a goddamn long day, and I am tired too af, but this video gave me extra energy as soon as I noticed . As an ultimate Ghost fan, I thank you for this reaction, you guys always make my day 💖
You can never go wrong with Ghost. My personal favorites from them are Monstrance Clock and Life Eternal. Also, I really want to get one of those huge mugs that Eric uses, they're so cool
I've only just discovered you guys through your Sleep Token reactions (endless gratitude for the free therapy) and I am in love! The story of my adult life is as follows: Tool literally saved my life and Sleep Token is helping me heal, but Ghost helped me understand why I got to the point where I wanted it to be over. I'm sure you get tons of requests, but I would LOVE to see you do more of their catalog. "Faith", "Bible", "From the Pinnacle to the Pit" and ALL of the Impera album are *beyond* worth it. They have new concert footage from their theatrical move "Rite Here Rite Now" that let's you get to know Papa and the Ghouls and Ghoulettes a little better, too. But you HAVE to do "Life Eternal" at some point. It's from Tobias to his late brother (and best friend) Sebastian. 🖤🖤🖤
This video runs parallels with the movie "Carrie". Carrie is abused at home by a religious zealot mother. Carrie has psychic powers which her mom says are evil and she must be cleansed. Carrie gets conned into going to her school prom, where a jealous competitor has everybody vote her to be prom queen, and subsequently dumps a bucket of pigs blood on her head. This makes her snap, and release her powers on everybody (similar to the video), those who tortured her, and unfortunately innocents too.
Oh, I saw them on their first American tour when they were completely unknown and very mysterious. Absolutely loved them. Then I saw them three other times on subsequent tours. During this song, the audience sings along. It's definitely one of the most popular songs with the fans. I didn't get to see them on their last tour, but I have tickets to the upcoming movie. Should be fun.
Would love to see you guys do some more Ghost reacts - songs like Dance Macabre, Spillways, even some of their heavier stuff from the original two albums, or even covers they’ve done. Ghost are amazing, and while your reactions have been fantastic, you two have just really scratched the surface of what they do.
Great reaction guys! As always! (Sorry still on a high from the Falling In Reverse “I Don’t Mind” reaction yesterday, so I don’t really have anything poignant to say today LOL)
you should def check out one of their live performances if you are wanting to go down that road! they are even better in person than in the studio (in my opinion) and their live shows are full of the amazingly talented ghouls as well!
You should do Year Zero next. Or anything, really. It's all fantastic. I've seen them five times, four as a headliner. They might be the most entertaining show live, and they sound absolutely incredible.
I'm so ecstatic that you're doing more Ghost. Highly recommend that you check out "Dance Macabre" and "Kiss A Go Goat" to dive into the lore a little bit more. Also, check out " Call Me Little Sunshine", it's just badass. I'm obsessed with Ghost! Thanks guys! 🖤🎶
Love your videos guys! Ghost is fantastic and I second any vote for Faith or Watcher In The Sky. The former is on the heavier side with Tobias doing some dirty vocals and as someone else commented, the full version in the lyric video is better, but the music video will show you at least visually what their live shows are like. The latter has more of that 80’s arena rock sound but features some little heard double kick action from the drummer. Both are great choices. Cheers!
Cirice is one of my favorite songs from Ghost! I really want to see them live, but for now, I've got the concert videos and waiting on the LA concert movie coming out. Faith is another one of my faves. Like someone else said, the official lyrics video would be better than the music video version. I also love the BBC Radio version, too, because of the ghoulette vocals and the laugh!
