i honestly do not care about the use of the generic structure as long as the writing, production, riffs, vocals, etc all stand out. Which they do here.
If people stopped thinking about it being “generic” or “changed too much” and actually tried to enjoy shit a lot of you would have a way better time listening to shit, in all genres of music lmao
Absolutely, 100% this. It seems like with most it’s a “it sounds the same, so I don’t like it” or “it’s too different, so I don’t like it” unless it’s a band that someone is really into. Metalcore in general all plays out the same. Stop over analyzing things and just enjoy the music

As long as it sounds good, I could give two shits how generic it is from a structure or musical point of view, it’s annoying because, if they DO change their sound, they hate on it, but now that they’re back with the old sound majority liked, it’s generic and sounds just like their old stuff which is what they asked for in the first place lmao
I am a fan of this one. Not ground breaking at all, but easily added to my gym playlist for sure! Generic isn't a bad thing if it is done well - especially here
I love how they are evolving their sound, something that I love about this band, is that they know their most popular sound like "The Hollow" or "Challenger" and they build new elements to their sound, they are constantly changing, they don't stagnate in repeating their formula, they only put their sound to the test, and this time (unlike the previous album), it promises to be a more mature proposal, even lyrically. 🤘🤘🤘
Yes.. your comment pisses me off because it makes me think of new Crown The Empire and Asking Alexandria. I guess the difference there is that those bands didn't want to keep their old sound that 'works', even against the wishes of their own fans.
I haven’t listened to them since Challenger lol my soul is ready for a Challenger follow-up, this one reminds me of the golden era of metalcore like ‘08-‘13 ❤️
Hollow, Challenger and Unconditional is still my 3 fav ones and i still bang them so much. Don't care if this is another generic, im happy that they turns out back to the "old self" but with a more mature sound.

I feel like for this band this sound is their best and they should stick to it. I dont mind generic stuff. If it has good energy and vibes im good with it
It was really the second part of the chorus that got me and also the low that Matty did just before the breakdown. Yes, it's generic, but it is with the times. The chorus is a little more fluid, the guitars are a little more "djenty", and of course that two decade old song structure that is literally "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Loved the track, hoping for more.
“Generic” is such an overused term. If they’re generic, then I guess Falling in Reverse, OM&M, and Beartooth are all generic too. Yet, they’re at the top of the list and I don’t see anybody complaining about their music though🤷🏻♂️
Hard disagree. Of Mice and Men are anything but generic right now- especially after Bloom and Pulling Teeth, Falling in Reverse has been doing some really creative stuff with the song re-imaginings and they’ve been innovating with genre-bending in Popular Monster, and Beartooth... Yeah I’ll give that to you. And people aren’t complaining about those bands because Memphis May Fire (Especially Matty Mullins) are a bunch of douchebags. That whole “Voice of a Generation” speech and the ‘Jezebel’ song are enough for me to write off this band completely.
two things i noticed about this song. the chorus feels exactly like an old adtr chorus and the vocal pattern in the first verse is the same or almost the same as the pattern in 2:06 of Rot in Pieces by Alpha Wolf.
How is anyone using the term generic when describing them? They have an iconic as hell sound from their old stuff and this is going right back to it. The only generic stuff they dropped was that dad rock album.
I always thought the guitarist of this band was underrated. His riffs are always fast and fairly technical while still being catchy, so I'm glad they went back to this style where he can actually showcase this talent (if even just for this one song). After the last two albums, I really enjoyed this return to form for them. It may not be groundbreaking or progressive in any way, but I think it's unfair to call this generic as they were one of the original "2012" metalcore bands.
This is the first track by them that their guitarist did all the mixing, mastering and producing on and it might have my favorite mix out if all their stuff so far
After 15 months of stress and forced change and pent up frustration all these bands are once again, being the voice their audiences need. Over a year and going of living in a different world than the one before quarantine and lockdowns is gonna pave the way to some great heavy music. It has reminded these bands about the real issues in the world besides where they land on the charts, and I am here for it. I'm not saying the lockdowns and quarantines were not warranted, they 100% were, but all the different governments around the world HEAVILY capitalized on all the fear and uncertainty, overstepping their place and manipulating the masses that are just worried about their family and friends and their careers or how they are gonna pay rent. If MMF is going back to thier roots and getting heavy, I cannot wait to see what bands like Parkway Drive(who I actually enjoyed their most recent LP a lot), Slipknot, Korn, WCAR, and other metalcore and even deathcore bands put out. Especially now that most of them have been writing or even recording during this time.
Yo for real. After that terrible 2018 album I completely wrote them off also. So I’m just fucking happy they r back to making their OG type of music again. I hope the whole upcoming album is hard again.
To be honest I fuck with this new wave coming in for metal and hard rock. You see bands that changed returning to form after failing to change, or in some cases coming back from SUCCESSFULLY changing, but I see so many bands returning to form. like this, Sleeping With Sirens, Bring Me The Horizon, and others.
They were part of the crew who pioneered the sound that is now considered generic. Like now this is generic but it’s a throwback to how they used to be and they were some of the leaders in modern metal core!

I love The Hollow and Challenger, but everything after that has been pretty mehh for me. Aside from a song here and there of course. Very interested to see what this album’ll be like. It’s obviously “Generic” but sometimes that’s what you need! Lol.
I wonder if A Day To Remember feel like idiots now after all these classic bands releasing heavy bangers and getting all the attention and love (MMF, TDWP, ChunkNCC, OM&M, even sleeping with sirens bringing back a little “heaviness”) Seems that people got quickly sick of that dad rock route all these bands took and they’re all swinging back to the heavy side and getting praise
Yeah.. never going to happen. First two albums were great from AA. I actually thought FDTD was their best album, in terms of sound. But I think Danny is forcing them in a different direction. One which very few of their fans actually want.
What's the point in even calling a band "generic" ? It doesn't mean it's good or bad, it doesn't criticize anything, doesn't add to an argument or opinion and is definitly not an interesting thing to say. It just says "the structure of the song is classic" but sounds like "boring". It also makes you seem like an elitist and picky heavy music listener but in a wrong way. Instead of just feeling the song and enjoying it, you have to say it for whatever reason. So far, i guess you noticed it can be upsetting. I love MMF even when they get a bit softer (but not too much: This Light I Hold is neat, Virus was not and Broken was ok) and now i'm really glad about Blood & Water, this song is fucking sick. The singing, the instrumentals, the production are beyond any of my expectations. So yes, they are back stronger than ever so let's just celebrate.
Honestly I am really happy with it. This is more of a getting back on their feet song so I appreciate the more normality to it at least they did it well. AM SUPER hyped for the new record if this is where it's heading
I just don't get all this talk about bands being generic because they follow a certain structure in their songs. Hell, back in 2000 even OG bands like Linkin Park had the verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus formula. This is not something that just came along a few years ago. Why do bands have to be technical and "surprising" all the time to be considered "good"? The most important thing is a good, satisfying sound and production to make a song enjoyable. Just my 2 cent. 🤷🏼♂️
