For the Easter Island statues, it is my understanding that the island used to have trees and the peoples who built the statues cut them down to lift more statues and ended up cutting them all down. This led to massive soil erosion and that is why most of the statues are neck deep in soil.

0:53 We have quite the opposite problem in most of Scandinavia. Our buildings are built with incredible insulation. That means that the heat of the building is trapped inside. So, in the summer when we reach 31°C/87°F there is no air conditioning, and the only way to get fresh air is by opening the windows... Which... You know it's a prison... So... Indoors it gets up to 38°C/100°F
@grellsutcliffe988
@grellsutcliffe988 2 года назад
Its actually same in Russia (and pretty much in all of former USSR). We have lots of insulation+central heating. Some times its really hot inside even during winter season (which is kinda counterintuitive) and especially in springs, when heating is still working but temperatures already going up.

1:10 Bro, actually, colder means bigger animals: Look, if you have a cube with the parameters 1x1x1 you get a total of 1 (volume) and 1 units of surface area. However, if you multiply the length by 2 you get 2x2x2=8 and 2x2=4. You only changed the lenght to 200% but the volume to 800% This means that every increase in surface results in an exponentially bigger volume and that bigger animals have procentually less surface area to irradiate warmth from If we look at our previous example, this means an animal having a surface two times the size of another animal, will irradiate 8/4=2 1/1=1 2/1=2 2 times as much heat per units of volume, meaning 1 5 tons of whale irradiates way less energy than the equal weight of Tuna

Sturgeons are very long lived; some of them can live more than a century or so. These fish were here when the dinosaurs roamed on earth, but now almost all of them are critically endangered due to overfishing for caviar and river dams that impeach their migration.
@pocarski
@pocarski 2 года назад
I've been to supermarkets where they sell live fish, and there were (and still are) sturgeons being sold for food. Very strange, now that you say most of them are endangered. I'm not even fully sure where they catch them, because we barely have any lakes, only rivers and the Baltic sea.
@Hidet0shialt
@Hidet0shialt 2 года назад
@@pocarski I know some species are bred in captivity in some parts of Europe, like how occurs with some fishing ponds in Lelystad and other parts of the low countries. Idk if it's the case around the Baltic but almost all of the wild populations of sturgeon are critically endangered, except for some sterlet species (a very small sturgeon)
@Hidet0shialt
@Hidet0shialt 2 года назад
@@pocarski also, Sturgeons tend to migrate on rivers and sometimes visit the ocean, hence why dammed rivers are some of their main threats because they lose the access to their upstream breeding point. There are probably sturgeons on the rivers and the sea where you at.

Someome correct me if im wrong thanks
@pocarski
@pocarski 2 года назад
The idea is that it's so nice they don't really want to escape, and instead of punishment, prison serves as rehabilitation to help them deal with whatever caused them to commit the crime in the first place. This means a way smaller chance of repeat offenses, because the inmate has found new hobbies, developed new skills, and generally grew as a person.

Sturgeons, like the big ones here, may look scary, but they're bottom feeders and therefore toothless fish (although they can suck in a small fish into their muppet mouths). Hence why there are guys in the water just holding them without any worries. They live very long lives and how big they are correlates to how old they are. However, due to them being fished to excess for their flesh and caviar, they're a protected species and they're a strict catch-and-release fish in Canada.
