Starter Pokemon Trivia! There's been a lot of discussion about "First Partner Pokemon" since the Pokemon company and official Pokemon channels are so determined to force the term First Partner Pokemon on us. The weird thing is the use of "Starter Pokemon" is still common even for Pokemon Legends, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and other new Pokemon Games.

I really don't get this change. If it ain't broke don't fix it plus they are called starters bc you start with that mon. This is quite a baffling change.

Yeah its Starter Pokemon. I can see "first partner Pokémon" being like, if you start with Ledyba. I wont get up in arms about that. But the Type Trio you pick at the START, so you can START your journey, are STARTER Pokemon.

The term "starter Pokémon" hasn't been used in the games or anime since X and Y. "First partner Pokémon" is the most common term used directly in the source material

I played Pokemon Red and my First partner Pokemon was Bulbasaur. Its really weird to say my other pokemon I got that are also starters would be called "First Partner" Pokemon when that title clearly belongs to my first pokemon playthrough in choosing Bulbasaur. How about we be smart about this and innovative. Instead, we can call them "Genesis Pokemon". Would make sense and I think everyone can be happy with that name.

Is it one of those translation things where localizers are upset they aren't allowed to inject politics and got petty thus trying to make a point of how important they are by making simple things overly verbose or redundant for no reason to go "sEe wHaT HapPeNs wiTh LitEral TranSLatiOnS!?". There was something similar with a snow town.

In the anime, many people had First Partners who weren’t Starters, even Professor’s Aids. But yeah, this feels as weird as “birthing person.”

ikr besides first partner sounds odd like your first date vibes. At least with starter it sounds more legit as they are your 1st Pokémon hence a starter and feels more personal.

I’m going to be honest when I look at Pokémon Let’s go pikachu on my Nintendo Switch I knew that pikachu have a pink heart by him that’s mean pikachu or Eevee are partner Pokemon that don’t evolve because they stay as starter Pokémon for the rest of the game & when I play Pokémon Scarlet in January this year I knew that Quaxly is a partners Pokémon because he does evolve through out the hold game & i only have played two Pokémon game on Nintendo Switch so far so I know the actual difference between partner & partners in a Pokémon game

Idk if I missed it, but is there an official statement saying like “you cannot use this term” or “this is the right term” from Pokemon? I feel like if both are used “casually” or gray-handedly by both Pokemon and the audience, it doesn’t matter to that point. Say Pokemon officiates one or the other, we don’t need to call it the same thing anyway. This is just an example, not to be taken seriously: “Do you know how to play Yu Gi Oh?” No one is going to go around and be like “🤓 actually it’s Duel Monsters.” Nobody in heck would call it Duel Monsters IRL, but it’s called that for the entire show, and technically that’s what it actually is. This is only funny as a joke or just a saying, until it’s taken seriously by either stances.

All Pokémon are your partners/friends/-slaves- pets and not everyone keeps their starter through the whole game, but they are your "first partner" on your journey. Sounds like the reverse of a fan term turned official. I'll stick with "Starters" though since it's classic but I've always considered them partners in general. They shouldn't change the name of the wiki page though. It'll just confuse people. Just switch the term used as needed with a "here/from this point it's call _this_ now" for clarity. TFWiki does it all the time considering how many Transformers characters have their name changed for trademark reasons. People who grew up with those characters still use the original name though.

This feels like the Sweet Baby Inc crap, where someone who is too young to take there thumb out of there mouth is just trying to leave there mark on something that has a well known brand and bring it down to there level regardless of what the data of public has to say about it.
