There are MANY here... MANY professional and experienced designers... builders... tradesmen and skilled craftsmen here.... SOME clients just dont want to: 1. Hire the professionals (they just want a mason that does carpentry electrical and plumbing) 2. do a Bill Of Quantities (to confirm the budget and project spending) 3. follow a due process from concept to getting approvals (thinking why its a poor island why do we need to... lets just tell the mason to start) 4. often want everything that is outside their budget for nothing.. then they end up selecting persons who have to negotiate lower prices by lowering quality based on cost! I see it a lot in my daily job at my desk and in the field ( I am called to either fix it or help them out) never or rarely from the beginning!!!
@@APointJM I wish to present a credible side. Local J'cans do not understand that they are working for the client and they r not trained to listen. To them it's not about what the client wants but rather what they want, so u end up with a nightmare. Many want to scam and rip you off especially if you are a returning resident. The general rule of thumb is that there is very little accountability because they have " connections" and everyone is very aware- the end result can be quite sinister. This construction company hopefully is not of that mindset and will do well because they put the client first which neans they are being professional. I wish them success.
@@anngore3842 I understand that exists and have posed the experienced issues based on "credible" evidence also. It is great but THIS construction company (or builder) is NOT and NEVER was the ONLY one. MANY reputable business professionals with successful projects DONT "want to scam and rip you off especially if you are a returning resident" Yet some would like to paint that picture of greedy and ignorance because of lack of due diligence. There are actually several University local that produce professionals in the Built Environment that can plan, manage and execute the project scope and the HEART-VTC has certified person that can execute the tasks (same people who go overseas to work-for-hire projects). I have seen MANY cases where instead of hiring registered and reputable company/ businesses they just hire a friend cousin or the recommended brother of someone... any time they can sign a "minor contract works" contract based on a certified bill of quantities (BOQ) then they will STOP getting ripped off.
This is a very inspirational video guys. Love this. Seeing a eco friendly home in Jamaica is encouraging - this is where we need to go in our developments.
My husband and I are inspired by tiny houses in the US and plan to build a small home. There is no point trying to build a big house just because everyone else doing that. We look forward to adding sustainable features as well.
I agree about the vibe of the house but I think there is a lack of taste in bringing her old square and rectangular furniture from england. she should throw them away and go for custom made stuff that marry elegantly to the shape of the walls, she also needs an interior advisor service to add some color patches and optimize that type of space.
Love this! These homes look similar to the traditional homes that my tribe make. They are called hogans from the Diné tribe of the Navajo Nation, US. 🙏❤️🙌
It would have been nice to hear more from Dwight the builder. Luckily you posted their website, so I was able to answer some questions. Impressive project and serious about sustainability. I think your audience should know their buildings are NHT approved. Thank you for introducing them!
@@TheDelprattFamily yes thank you I found it. I have to say I like how detailed you and your husband are getting the information out there. However I do wish that Dwight would have gotten a chance to elaborate more on what he does. But just watching him I don't think he's a man that likes to be in the spotlight. It was a wonderful tour to see. Jamaica to me is one of the most greenest countries in the world. Why shouldn't they run Green? As well...😊
My wife and I would definitely live in something like this no doubt. Up in the cool hills of St Ann with ocean view and we’re off grid. Definitely can’t go wrong with being amongst nature and a off grid lifestyle.
The designer / builder really knows his craft. and Julia has a rich artful taste in designing the inside of the property. I would have enjoyed hearing her voice more in the video. 🙏
They have a website in the description. The homes are NHT approved and I don't know the exact cost, but it's safe to say about half of a conventional built home.
Love this dome house. I have seen programs on a basic dome house in America ( catering to low income) but nothing this beautiful. Love the art work and use of wood against the white walls. The couple is living their best life. Lastly, I like the underground water tank. Years ago, my sister saw this when she visited her in- laws in Bermuda. Mr and Mrs. Delprat, your channel is on another level. Thanks for the content. I hope that you will follow up on the young couple, you visited about a year ago, who were building, as they occupy, their home in Mo Bay, I think.😢
Adrian's love and appreciation for everything that went into this home is absolutely heartwarming and contagious. You can tell he really valued it all and was so enthusiastic when talking to Ms. Julia.
I love your videos but this one hmmm, the home owner and the designer should have give the tour of this house,I just keep getting distracted.. in other words the presentation gets drawn out...sorry...Nice house off the grid great features..my opinion..
They are the creators/ designers. Would have been even more helpful if you'd allow them to present the homes instead, that way we could learn more about their project. Good content nonetheless.
Perched on a hilll, surrounded by Nature, overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Perfect! Different! beautiful! Amazing scenery. I 💖 it..... I read somewhere that Dome Houses can better wthstand Hurricanes. Hurricane winds blow over them, not into them 😊 I'd like to live in one, one day soon. Thanks for sharing.
This is a BEAUTIFULLY designed home. I love the design and features of the domes itself and the decor that Julia chose. Those wooden designs are priceless and loved the carved doors, especially liked the idea of the louvers on the door to promote airflow. She did an excellent job on the garden as well 👏 😍. I especially liked the way the domes catch rainwater and that storage is underground - makes sense to have the 'guttering' at the base of the dome (instead of the roof as traditional houses do) as it allows ease of access to keep it clear of debris. My favourite feature is the tube lights 🤩 how amazing it must be at nighttime, when there's a full moon. Very well thought through designs.
I love this stylish and beautifully eco friendly house. This is very good for Jamaica. Simplicity is at its best with sustainable living and cost effective.
I absolutely love this idea and the whole look of the place. I really enjoy the way Dwight would speak about the design aspect of everything- its so smartly built from beginning to end. AMAZING!!
@@TheDelprattFamily Guys I absolutely love your content but constructively, I really wished you had allowed them to speak a bit more about the home themselves, the construction etc. But I love these videos and I hope you keep it up, you could turn this into a new segment- 'Unique houses in Jamaica', lol
Like the bookcase. It’s called a pantry in the US. When I am building my home, I want a library inside. Also an entry way, it won’t be the typical Jamaican design, NO WAY!
Get a production person just standing there talking ....show the house plz ..repeating the drone shot is not showing much lets get inside and see the house .there was a foam one in runaway bay ..are these approved by parish council s and whats the cost and is it scaleable
Very creative. One day I will build a dome house in a rural area, live off natural farmland food and get off the grid. Escaping from the hustle and bustle is my goal in life, before Armageddon arrives.
All I know is... Julia floor a bline mi yeye dem. Mi love it. Makes me want to ditch tiles and wood floors when I get to that stage in my life. The house, though not exactly like anything Jamaica is used to traditionally, it does have traditional elements here and there, especially by Julia's choices. I find her house actually somewhat nostalgic. All in all, this is a genius idea, especially for St. Thomas. Smart contractor.
Thanks for the video, I appreciate you guys. But the Owners should be the ones taking you for a tour in their home and doing most of the talking....AGAIN WHEN YOU DESCRIBING THE ISLAND (for example, when you say you have views of the Caribbean Sea)....Show the Caribbean sea, ..we know your beautiful women, ..less view of you and show the island....PAN THE CAMERA SO WE CAN REALY EXPERIENCE WHAT YOUR SEEING....
This is actually a very strategic location for a water sustainable house like this, how fitting to build this in one of the most rainfall heavy parishes in Jamaica
I didn’t realise that, we will be living in Westmoreland within the area of Cornwall mountains. We get real heavy rainfall there so it’s interesting to find out this piece of fact. Thank you
@@JaquelineBaker12 You're welcome. The eastern parishes tend to have most of the rainfall in Jamaica (Portland, St. Thomas, St. Mary) but rainfall is heavy up in the mountains too
I recently moved to the hills of Westmoreland, and it gets loads of rainfall, I can't imagine how the Eastern Parishes are - didn't know they get lots of rain too 🙂
@@Samm876 How was your experience moving to Westmoreland...I was born and raised there...and would love to own a property there...but I no longer have any family there and it's a bit overwhelming trying to execute on my desires right now...
@@TheDelprattFamily Honestly I like it but not the water underneath the house. Lovely home, it’s so different from the same old, same old one style houses in Jamaica 🇯🇲.
This is such a beautiful home! It’s design captures nature which gives such peace and calmness! The designer did such a wonderful job and the homeowner touch of decorating is on point.
Very interesting video. It was a joy to watch. I only wish we heard more from the host about her inspiration for each space we saw. Thanks again for sharing.
@@TheDelprattFamily south EASTERN end , meaning it's not on the SOUTH COAST of Jamaica, but rather in the EAST, but southern part of east, while Portland is in the Northern part of the east. SOUTH coast is St. Elizabeth, Manchester and Clarendon. This is not a debate or to call you out. I posted so that if people who are not from Jamaica saw your clip saying "you're in St. Thomas on the South coast." You can block and delete, but in the end it's all EGO and you know it.
This is nice, with solar power + water harvesting + starlink internet it means you can get a cheap remote piece of land anywhere in Jamrock and live like you're in a developed part of the country- NICE.
We love this sustainable home with solar and water harvesting, and also we love the dome shape it is good to think out the normal everyday design that every house looks like. also, you can have a house shape like a triangle, Prism etc change up the design a bit it Art keeps renewable energy and resources in mind.
wow nice this is beautiful i love how windy and cool up there is. i love the tranquility. Nice and unique to Jamaica. I would live up there. good job Delpratt family
Not trying to take too much from the designer but the every house that is built in Bermuda has a tank underneath the house that has a pump system that pumps water to the kitchen n bathroom and a sewage soak away system
Sorry if I just seem to be critiquing, but whenever you show a video of a house run by solar, show the solar setup, even for 30 seconds. How many and type of panels, charge controllers, inverters and batteries are very important.
Another Gem Delpratt Family. I’m planning a sustainable house build in st Ann with unground water tank and solar. It’ll be interesting if Dwight can consult to my builder on some of the concepts although my proposed home will have a modern look. Keep up the fantastic work guys. 👊🏾🙌🏾🇬🇧🇯🇲
Over here in st Lucia, must say I like this....would make sense to have filters that that easy to access.... as things can fall through...nonetheless I like it. I'd love to see the how to build video so please follow up.
Looks wonderful, I am tempted to forget moving to Adrica & move to St T.. that's where both my late parents came from..I am sure like most other viewers we were waiting to hear pricing but none was mentioned not even the cost of 1 not even the shell of 1 dome yet you kept emphasising affordable..People yes viewers would have liked to know including myself, otherwise job well done..
Beautiful beautiful beautiful I'm here in America amazed at the beauty of this awesome home I've seen other dome homes but these builders are truly top of the line builders along with the beautiful landscape of Jamaica they're the best
I live in a dome home in the USA and I love it. Plan to build one in Mexico as well - now Y’all got me thinking of coming to Jamaica. Our dome was completed in 1992!
Wow finally something that is lovely and different. The good thing is that it look way strong for hurricane season. Lovely view you really don't need a TV at all. At night they can go on the roof and watch the stars. I haven't seen the star in years here in Canada. Beautiful.
