It just needs time as all consoles will have their day. At one point in time, NES and SNES games were generally dirt cheap, because they weren't retro or nostalgic, they were just old and outdated by the late 90s and early 2000s. At that time, you could still find sealed SNES for cheap in the KB Toys bargain bin. When I started collecting, SNES became the hot thing everyone wanted, but later consoles like PS1 and N64 remained cheap. Some folks even believed that nothing later than SNES would ever become collectible, but then the next wave hit. PS4 is in that grey area where it's tired and played out and nobody is nostalgic for it yet, there's still an abundance of unsold games floating around. As for my local stores, they're really picked over and rarely get anything different coming in anymore. Folks are holding onto their retro stuff, or have gone into reselling for themselves. It doesn't help that the normies aren't buying physical games for current gen much anymore, that's going to spell a problem for future collecting and stores which rely on gaming to stay afloat.

What do you mean: 6-7 years? People were riding at their highest in 2019. Everything collapsed in 2020. Especially with commercial property holders routing us into a depression with work-from-home practices.

My sales have slowed a lot since the Fed report 2 weeks ago. People are finally realizing the economy is not good, and everyone is lying to them. That said sales are still there. Especially on the highend, but I’m also seeing a shift from 6th gen being the most in demand to 7th gen. Even Wii U is selling for 33-50% more now. So yes things are slowing, but they’re also changing at the same time. I’d also argue tech & games sales go down in the summer months as more people spend their time outside. Typically Sept-Dec and Feb-April are peaks because of holidays, winter weather, and tax returns.

Another thing to consider is that GameStop will only order enough games to honor pre-orders with only one extra copy to put out on the Shelf. Of course they will open that game and put it on the Shelf as new. These games that they only order one for the store are the ones that you need to buy. That's if you see them out there for a good price. Games are few and far between that they stock more than one copy of. They make mistakes sometimes with games like Scarlet Nexus where they have tons of them just sitting in the back and that's why we see that game going on sale for 5 to 10 bucks. Another reason for the state of these game markets is just simply digital. People are buying digitally. I've Got Friends who will not buy a game that's $30 in my store (really 45 but I can hook them up), instead they'll buy it digitally for 70 so they don't have to get up and switch out the disc. Our store is actually doing pretty good. Not covid good but we have good traffic and we see great trade-ins. May is actually the slowest month of the year, for smaller stores like us anyway. Where in Columbus Ohio and the collecting scene seems pretty strong here.

We are not 4 years removed from the virus. Its 4 years since it started here. 2020 through mid 2021 many people were still dying by the thousands and many industries were still in turmoil. It didn't start to turn around until mid to late 2022. So its VERY sensible that we'd still be feeling the effects...

This happens to all systems that are last generation. Now is a fantastic time to collect for the PS4/XB1. Let them get cheap! With digital only on the horizon it’s time to eat up as much as possible before everything good is gone.

Interesting opinion but I think right now is the best time to pick games for these consoles as they are abundant . Let’s see in ten years what the market brings in as I’m sure some of them will be sought after. It has happened with each generation and I’m sure it’ll happen again. Look at 360 games prices rising due to the service going offline . I do agree that switch games are the most collectible and higher value games . Great video my friend !

I agree that PS4 and PS5 generally don’t hold value as well as some retro systems. That said, I’ve noticed rare titles escalating in price recently. One example is Godzilla on PS4, which regularly sold for $200 or less on Ebay just a month ago and is now $300+.
@Basedguy1
@Basedguy1 Месяц назад
Godzilla is a bit of an extreme example. The game didn't do too well, so bandai recalled it. Coupled with zero godzilla games since, the price has been hyper inflated into oblivion. With every successful godzilla movie, the game will become more and more expensive as newer fans enter the ecosystem.
@Dorian_Gray83
@Dorian_Gray83 Месяц назад
People need to do their research. There are several games for PS4 that have been going up in value. Now is the time to get those guys before they shoot up in price even more. I got Godzilla for $75 just a couple of years ago.

The retro game store near me has decent prices on most games. The glass case is a little crazy. But he doesn’t have everything I’m looking for and with some of the crazy retro game prices now I’m more picky and choosy and I’m not buying as often as I would like because of that and the ones i do pick up are the ones that i missed and actually want to play. I’m only getting killer not filler titles also. And i think my retro game store is doing decently well because he deals in computers and computer and phone repairs and upgrades. He used to fix consoles but the cost got so high from parts and labor he even said it was better to just get another one.

Y2K Collector, a few weeks ago you did a video called 'You can't emulate these....' and in that video you featured a Saturn game called 'Burning Rangers'. I see there's a channel called Mr. Wright Way which has just uploaded a video in which he got that game for less than a hundred dollars at GameStop. 'Guardian Heroes', for less than ninety dollars, is also in that video.
@blueshine-

Huh you can definitely emulate those, Saturn emulation has been doable for a while. they're on ps360/switch going onto ps4 now lol. But like all emulation it's all dependent on your hardware and some run worse than others.

PS4 games will plummet because it, along with the Xbox One, is becoming the latest obsolete console. This happens with every console that most recently phased out--Xbox 360 and PS3 games were dirt cheap several years ago. PS4 games are not very desirable at this point, and demand will continue to roll off. I could be wrong, but it'd be shocking if demand stayed strong. But for 7th console gen and older, I don't see the prices cratering. They'll probably decrease, and I've already noticed the prices for some games, like on the PS2, decreasing. But prices are falling on only a limited number of games--for the most part, demand and prices are staying steady for tons of retro games. The 7th console gen is also picking up steam as the "newest" retro console market, so more attention is shifting in that direction. As a whole, I don't think we're going to see the retro game market implode, even in the face of economic collapse. People will want to make money somehow, and so they'll continue to charge high prices for games. And many people will continue to buy. People will put buying retro games over going out to eat or taking a vacation, because games are not merely consumable--they last and can be enjoyed over and over again. The economy would have to get truly truly ugly for the retro game market to crumble. And the powers that be will do everything in their power to prevent that from happening in an election year. And they'll probably prevail.

The problem with Game Hunting and price trends right now, is that people don't want things until they are gone. Everything that is in abundance now won't be in 15yrs. Nobody bout NES or SNES games when they were sitting there for $10 right? So isn't that the same as seeing a PS4 sitting there for $10 today? Same with 360. People HATE XBOX right? So why are they snapping up all these 360 games now? BUY what you like, not for profit

Every console has its games that are costly. Even the console itself won’t drop too far at a certain point. The N64 is the worst Nintendo system by many for many reasons but the console and all its variants can be quite expensive, even the games like StarCraft 64, Ogre Battle, and etc are pretty expensive for being on a less desirable system. I got loads and loads of sealed games like the RE series for both the PS4 and xbox1. I’m not grading or anything absurd but who knows what will happen if and when games go digital. Games could be more rarer and maybe become more tradable for another game in one’s collection?

You’re totally right. Two things at play here. One: PS4 games all play on PS5 and nearly all of them are still listed. 2: Most Switch games are playable on the cart unlike PS and Xbox games now. The carts are also worth more and cost more to make so they don’t discount them the same. There were also much less physical copies of many switch games than PlayStation

There are way more third-party games being produced for PlayStation than Nintendo. When a game fails and they need to clear out stock those games get discounted out. That same Final Fantasy strangers game will be worth way more than $3 in the next 5 years. Hell, it's worth way more than $3 now. If you see it for $3, buy it. All the same rules apply for Xbox and Playstation current games. If a game has a low print run it will be sought-after in the future. The Nintendo switch is just cool to collect for and there are more collectors holding on to these games. It's Nintendo and every gamer worth their salt has an instinctive reflex to collect Nintendo. Especially old schoolers. Don't sleep on these current and last gen Xbox and PlayStation games. You'll be scrambling around just like people are now with 360 and the original Xbox games in the future. If it looks cool and seems like it had a low print run, buy it. This is the last generation to go after these physical games in large numbers. The digital scales are going to weigh heavily over physical in future Generations. Sound the alarm for the last chance to buy Modern Video games physically, easily.

@@therealjaystone2344 As long as the servers are up to keep these Xbox One systems running even those games will be expensive. The only problem with Xbox One and series X systems is that you need an online connection to sign in with your Gamertag just to activate a console in order to play games. They could at some point disable this so we are able to just play the consoles with physical games without an online check-in.
