I've heard a lot of people compare this to "Get Out" but what I think they are missing is the connection to "Undercover Brotha" & "Black Dynamite" both had plots using mind control thru products consumed by Blacks. In fact, "Undercover Brotha" had a fried chicken & beer commercial in it that was the deliver for mind control. Yes, the overall endgame is kind of similar to get out in a way, but the movie really stands as a more serious version of "Black Dynamite & Undercover Brotha" if we're going to compare it to any films as far as overall plot.

the movie is a blessing. i cried, laughed, got scared, cried and laughed again - all in a span of 2 hours of watching the movie. i don't understand why the ratings on it are so damn low. haven't seen much promo for the film either. THE MOVIE IS A GEM. 8/10 EASY p.s. i've only now learned that 'taine was played by BOYEGA. the dude was UNRECOGNISABLE in that role. insanely good acting from the cast. PEOPLE NEED TO TALK MORE ABOUT THIS MOVIE GOD FUCKING DAMN IT

Thank you for covering this! I am watching it tonight. This film has some of the best marketing posters I've seen and love the production design. I kinda hate that it's on Netflix and wasn't released worldwide, but Netflix is one of the few studios producing films with black creators in genres that we rarely see (western, sci-fi) so I will take it. Also- you better handle that clone in the corner Austin :)

I got a theory... What if "the glen" wasn't necessarily a real place but instead a test place to experiment 🧪🥼 people and then if the experiment went well they then move out to bigger real cities such as LA and Detroit. 👀 What if almost everybody there at the glen was all clones and the girl yoyo was a metaphor name (she keeps coming back) (simulation was the theme for the movie) to see how the clones reacts to real people??why? if y'all noticed the beepers, the 70s 80s early 00s styles & music in the glen? They are all clones from the past & the glen is not a real place.. search up the world glen and it's a secluded private valley in the mountains meaning they are testing the clones in this location. Yoyo being the only one i believe that wasn't a clone is just a metaphor filter

My thoughts were not to point to Get Out. Instead, the influences I could see from this movie gave me were Edgar Wright's Cornetto movies and Black Dynamite. Combined with that shot-on-film camera work everything just melded together amazingly.

The Movie was a perfect 10. As a black man I understood everything they were saying in the movie and it flowed well. The complexities were not complex at all because as a culture we see this often. Watch it again with one of your black friends and they’ll explain the things you didn’t get lol

This movie is dripping with style and aesthetic, beautiful cinematography, and has great characters and performances. My biggest issue is something that plagues most stories: it's far too simplistic in its resolution. We're to believe this organization composed of what would have to be experts in their fields spent all this time and money constructing this operation only to have weak security and practically bread-crumb the heroes to their facility.

You compared this movie to get out. Get out is a horror/Thriller movie. This movie was a science fiction comedy and mystery movie. This movie also is a prelude to Tyrone’s story. The clone we saw in the movie is Fontaine and Tyrone was only shown in the last part of the movie. To me I think the story, acting and comedy were good. Horror movies are actual more engaging than Sci fi movies. I think that’s the reason the comedy was added so the audience doesn’t get bored out. It was a good movie for me.

I really enjoyed the subtle details in the movie. Fontaine was shot 6 times in the beginning of the film, and then Fontaine himself shot at his clone in the lab tube 6 times too. But the glass tube was bulletproof, which can be interpreted as symbolism that even though Fontaine may die again, he can be replaced by another clone as if he is immortal.

Loved the movie, i agree it unravels a bit at the end but very enjoyable. I love the twist at the end and they definitely setup a sequel. Point being the conspiracy would be true for every hood in America at a minimum.

Well I thought that it was purposefully trying to incorporate the OTT of Blaxplotation films (down to its graininess) in a lot of part, going to all the gunplay etc., you mentioned. That being said, I'll agree it didn't mesh as cohesively as a whole, as it could have.

It’s a 5/10 from me… They Cloned Tyrone is a mash-up that quivers between working and not and, sadly, by the end, wobbles into the "not working" camp. The story is satirical but also a pulpy mystery and, at times, a thriller… It's an ambitious and worthy story to explore, but all of the elements thrown into the film sadly don't come together to deliver a cohesive tone, and the film is hurt because of it.
