Not to mention that the hallway scene was an encapsulation of the movie’s message. Vader, the chosen one and Lord of the Sith, was thwarted by a bunch of faceless nobodies because of their teamwork and sacrifice.

Yes, you need to watch the Andor series. The Skywalker saga is relatively clean and pretty. Rogue One and the Andor series show how costly and dirty fighting the Empire was for the ordinary people. Lots of sacrifices were necessary.

This movie is the only one of the post original three release movies that rank up there with Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (minus ewoks, which were just intellectually offensive. Don't get me started on stone age teddy bears vs Imperial legion). The prequels had significant problems, and revealed the limitations of Lucas as a storyteller--he has mind blowing vision, and his mastery of whatever the best modern special effects in any age he's working in is top flight (up there with Riddley Scott and James Cameron) but his execution of scene and dialogue without assistance really comes across as ham-fisted, clunky, and forced. The Disney KK additions have taken the universe Lucas created and have spun off a whole bunch of fan fic stories that treats existing lore like a plot crutch that leans purely on sentiment or as an inconvenience to be dispensed with the instant it gets in the way of the story they want to tell. Rogue One is the only exception to this.

FUN FACT: in the Moff Council scene in Star Wars- Episode IV: A New Hope where Darth Vader Force-chokes Admiral Motti, there was an empty seat at the table. it is now retconned that that seat belonged to Director Krennic from THIS film. that scene took place days after the Battle of Scarif so no one was appointed to his position then.

Andor, the prequel to this amazing movie, is the best Star Wars TV show ever made. I've watched all 12 episodes twice through, and watched countless reaction videos. They never get old (I'm game if you are Nia!) Its quality adds to, and enhances Rogue One It has been nominated for the Best Drama Emmy (as well as in multiple technical categories) Its quality has often been considered as "Game of Thrones does Star Wars" - terrific writing and acting in every episode. Not a single actor is wasted - even supporting characters. They are all brilliant! It's not the usual Star Wars fare (thankfully) - but neither was Rogue One. It won't be a waste of your time, I promise!

33:46 so the actor for the original New Hope Red Leader is dead, so they used archive footage for him. But the actor for Gold Leader is still alive. So when the directors called him to see if he wanted to reprise his role as Gold Leader for this movie they thought he seemed really hesitant on the phone. Like he didn’t want to do it. So they said “just let us send you over the script and you can make up your mind. What’s your email?” And he like pauses, “uh… uhm, GoldLeader4Ever.” And the directors are like “oh, we got him.” 🤣

Definitely watch ANDOR, it's a brilliant show. And i see the end of rogue one, one of my favorite star wars movies (this and the original 3, as this is right before 4). Sucks that everyone died, sure, but they all fought for what they ended up accomplishing, so i see it as a good death, in the end. It's basically a war movie, no one really thought they were getting out of it. And Vader looked really cool killing everyone in that hallway without even pausing, that should probably count for something.

I really appreciate Rogue One because not only does this film respect the spirit of the old trilogy, but it also shows an aspect of the rebellion that is very interesting. Many rebels sacrificed themselves for the final victory. And in this film it is clearly shown that the rebels are not angels but warriors. People who have convictions and an ideal. The end of the film is both tragic and full of hope. Princess Léa's smile at the end of the film says it all. Because it says all those sacrifices were worth it.

I will absolutely die on the hill that Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie. In this essay I will… Ok reasons. 1. We finally get to see the SW universe without the plot armor of the “Dream Team.” (Luke, Leia, and Han). There’s real risk for these characters. They fail, they make mistakes, they die even. We can see how gritty and real it is for them rather than just breezing through everything as a magical space wizard from a desert planet. 2. We actually get to see the *real* Rebellion. These aren’t some plucky heroes taking the good fight to the Empire and sippin some blue milk afterwards. These are regular people, without powers, in the dirt, in the mud, in the blood. They’re gritty. They’re dark. It isn’t just good vs evil, it’s grey. And, for lack of a better term, them make the rebellion look like the t3rrorists that they kind of are. That’s how you fight an empire. They’re an insurgency conducting fast smash and dash missions. And that’s great. 3. We actually get to see why everyone is terrified of the Imperial Navy. Every time we see the Imperial Navy in the other movies the “Dream Team” always manages to either get away or win against the odds. Every. Time. And because of that there’s no threat behind the Imperial Navy. They aren’t scary. But in the us we actually get to see why everyone is so scared of them. 4. We actually get to see why everyone is terrified of Darth Vader. Let’s be honest, Vader doesn’t actually do much in the original trilogy besides stand around, breathe scary, and maybe wiggle a lightsaber back and forth for a little. But everyone’s terrified of him for some reason. And Rogue One actually shows us why. Because he actually is terrifying.

Always watch every single series in the release order it was made never in an updated chronological order. The people making the prequels already know what came before and they always tie things back that will make no sense in any other order. 2000 can't improve based on what is going to happen in 2010, 2010 will include things from 2000 with the expectation that everyone has already seen 2000 back in 2000. I've never seen any story continued or prequelled that doesn't nod to the story that was released before and warranted the sequel/prequel in the first place. Andor has some great hat tips to Rogue One - would go totally over the heads of folks watching it first. Unless the people making the prequel/sequel have never seen the original content and I can't think of anyone to do that other than Joel Schumacher with Batman and look what happened. Give the movie to the "I don't like comic books" guy lol.

I was so happy when I finished this movie. Because of one person Vader in the former expanded univers that was retconned when Disney took over Vader was a beast the most dangerous jedi killer out there. SO when Disney took i was scared hr would be more comical than ruthless this proved that they were not scared to put on full how ruthless and evil he and the empire can be.

Star Wars is much more than just the Skywalker Saga (the numbered episodes). I LOVED the Expanded Universe (now called Legends) which is all the novels, comics, games etc. So many of them are set around the norms of the galaxy. This movie feels like an Expanded Universe movie. Solo is another decent movie. It's not all lightsabers and the Force. Nice layout BTW. It's difficult to arrange stuff onscreen to look good, and get passed the Copyright Gods.

If you want to know why Saw is so "fanatical", watch both Clone Wars and Rebels.... well, add in The Bad Batch, too..... because all of those give his backstory in their own way. I won't give spoilers, but don't discount those animated shows as "kids shows"... they are not! To a point, they were targeted towards children..... but then again, so was the whole franchise. Just..... "older" kids. Something that adults can relate to and understand as well. Trust me on this one. If you're going to go down the Star Wars "rabbit hole"... go all the way.

I love this particular installment of the franchise. Going into it, you don't recognize any characters so nobody instantly has "plot armor". It fits in with the Skywalker Saga without depending upon the icons and using them sparingly. What a great fix to one of the most notable "plot holes" in the original, namely why does this big super-weapon have such an exploitable flaw in the first place?

@@pleutron Not necessarily a "plot hole", but certainly an aspect of the original that drew attention. Regardless, it's nice to understand the back-story.

Other reactors (bigger Star Wars fans) understood this movie far more. And Chirrut doesn't use a light sabre because he isn't a Jedi. Genuine fans would know that.
