That mans voice was out of this world so smooth and gentle and then the greatest tenor ever nobody ever will be in his league,God gave him a special talent
I fell in love with Mario Lanza when I was 12. I am 76 now and still love hearing him sing. A great voice lost to us all at the young age of 38. There will never be another like him for me.
“Voices don’t get any better than this”! Mario Lanza died in his four ties. How sad. He was from Philadelphia, Pa. His wife died months after he did of a “broken heart”.
He could have sung at the Metropolitan Opera House on NYC, New York. Kathryn Grayson and he were two very talented singers. I miss them. Mateo Lanza died at age 38 of a blood clot in a hospital in Italy.
Thank you for posting this. We watched this early this morning on Turner. "That Midnight Kiss" was Mario Lanza's first movie. I am 60 years old now and have listened to Mario Lanza my entire life. In my opinion, Lanza's vocals in this movie, even though his first, was the best that he ever sang. His voice had not become harsh and abused by the studio and by Lanza's lifestyle.
I watched this movie the same morning you did, and uploaded this video that same week. (I've been meaning to tell you that ever since, but the clip comes on, I start singing along, and then my attempted post gets wiped out in mid post!). Question for you, though? We're almost contemporaries (actually, you're young enough to be my annoying little sister). Do you notice the resemblances between Mario's movies and the Elvis pictures? In this one, Mario's a truck driver, a not un Elvis thing to be. Of course, Elvis never got to sing to Kathryn Grayson, so mebbe I just answered my own question.
@ Lasse62Jocke "Til Clouds Roll By" was the most loosely based movie on Jerome Kern that even he had issues with trying to follow it. A main example of that is the fact that "his best friend in the movie and the daughter" were the imaginations of the writers. They did not exist. Please don't believe everything that you see in an old MGM musical biography. They made those movies to sell tickets and records not to tell the truth.
The song is by Jerome Kern and Herbert Reynolds from 1914 added material for a show called "The Girl from Utah" and was Kern's first big hit. Check out Leontyne Price and André Previn's version here on RU-vid as well.
What a great song. It was the theme song of my sister w/his bf, sorry but they were not meant for its other. My sister died 5 years ago & haven’t heard from him. Surely, I always remember that song & Mario Lanza was my favorite singer & no one can replace him.
