They Gave Up On The Modern Warfare Story… And You Should Too. 

If there is an MW4, Infinity Ward is going to have to craft one hell of a story and game in order to make up for all of this disaster.

MW2019, shocked me with how good the campaign was. While 2022 wasn't perfect it was overall very very good. Then MW3 bungled it.

To be fair MW III 1: isnt made by Infinity Ward 2. Wasnt the game Sledge Hammer wanted 3. Less time to produce it and forced to make modes they didnt want 4. Wheres Ghosts 2 at IW?

I'm still thinking about how Makarov's current VA wanted us to trust in the process of Milena becoming more involved in the story post launch for MWIII, only for her to never show up again in this game's life cycle, and the story itself just screeching to a halt in season one. What a train wreck of a story. Crazy to think Vanguard had a more coherent post launch story than MWIII ever did.

I called it. After 2019, they decided to quit on the franchise story and went Fortnite by intertwining it with multiplayer and being all goofy. Started out great and then died halfway through MW2. Total wreck.

I just pretend that MW II and MW III reboot don’t exist. Only MW 2019 is made. The second one and the third reboot is just so sad. One is looking for missiles for like 3 decades and the other one is to hunt down a comedian.

Its simple the narritive director/ writer of mw2019 who worked 15 months for the storyline left the studio during the mw2022 development ( taylor kurosaki) you can see him on every video about mw2019 behin the scenes, plus the singleplayer director jacob minkoff left the studio also both of them worked together in infinited warfare and mw2019

They stopped story telling as soon as they started just bringing out skins and skins and skins of nonsense to compete with fortnite instead of having a flowing story like mw2019. After that game the campaigns besides Cold War have been terrible

Literal vanguard situation again. Their last season they bought Raul menendez and the AW lazar and plenty more things. At least treyarch are gonna have seasonal stories like they did for cold war.

The thing is sledgehammer didn't want to work on mw3 to begin with, they were just assigned an expansion that happened to turn to a full game at the last minute

They set up MW3 to be the next og MW2 with ww3 and Makarov. No Russian was meant to show Makarov as the most evil villain yet. He got his own hands dirty in the airport and it was all a part of a huge scheme. Whereas in MW3, he didn't get that introduction that made you sick to your stomach. He rarely did anything that showed how evil he was or what his plan was. It seems like not even the writers knew what Makarov's plan was.

MW19 had an incredible story. MW22 wasnt as good but it still had its highlights. MW3 absolutely killed this entire storyline. Having story being explained in cutscenes for each season completely ruins the stories. Theres a reason campaigns mean something and now we just get 2 minutes of story exposition instead of a playable mission where we can learn about the story

It’s even more messed up when you realize that sledgehammer had their own game to make before being thrown into this. Which was supposed to be a direct “sequel” to advanced warfare.

Gaz wasn't a police officer. He was SAS working with the CTSFO (Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms Officers). This is also confirmed in his bio. (Im pretty sure that there is also a mistake in that with the British Army being called the Royal Army).

if i was a writer for cod, i would write that while price assassinates shepered, little did he know, he was being filmed by a stranger. after price leaves shepered’s office, the stranger leaks the video of shepered’s murder to the entire world. kaite laswell and TF 141 were forced to go rogue and go underground and then to hide their identities from the world by operating as ghosts

They should retcon the entirety of MW3 and start back at the end of MW2 and start the story by having a better reveal for Markarov.

I feel like if Black ops 6 is to flop the Call of duty franchise will not be coming back from it, it will be a huge blow and flop in the cod franchise

I still say MW2019 took COD 2 steps in the right direction, how we all remember it (for the most part). With no pay to win, balancing/nerfing for WZ, listening to the community, gritty campaign, multiplayer etc. Then Vangaurd and MWII and III took us about 6 steps back

Yup, COD Modern Warfare's Story is in shambles and we all should just move on from the horrible mess that was MWIII and go into Black Ops 6 if it doesn't suck.

I think the betrayal of Shepard, Graves and Shadow Company was unnecessary for this MW story. It would have been unique to see them all work together.

Here is my season 6 of mw3 experience. 1) I hop into a game in the “ghost ship” playlist. Game in progress - my team is loosing 22-64 TDM, I died twice immediately the moments I spawn - I back out 2) I try again - this time another match in progress - in domination My team is losing 36-144 lol The kill feed is all enemy killing mine. I back out. 3) I hop into the new horde mode …. I wait over 4 minutes in queue… I back out of queue.. 4) I hope into the new clown playlist. It’s TDM my team is getting stomped 22-57 … I get a kill and just back out 5) I try the hoard mode again…. I’m waiting 7 minutes to get into a game…. Once again - they (my team) are getting owned 10-60… I have two team mates cause everyone else must of backed out… I back out … delete app and now I wait for BO6

Is it just me or is Activision gonna get desperate by introducing a cliche multiverse plot for MW4. Come on it’s Activision. Theoretically speaking, they could do _anything_ to destroy this franchise.

The OG MW trilogy is still undefeated. I did enjoy the MW2019 campaign in some degree but for the rest of the rebooted trilogy i couldn’t get behind.

always remember that Sledgehammer also dropped the ball on the post-launch story for Vanguard, but in that case IN THE MIDDLE of it in season2/3 (season 3 was kinda story related, next one after that had nothing connected to that story). I don't care how many COD fans can go "Wedge Wammer Wames" or whatever, SHG can't write good stories for shit (yes, even Advanced Warfare was mid, you're just looking through nostalgia glasses) and just does not give a fuck about the hard work of other studios that try integrating the other games into one canon with Warzone. Yea yea, good mutliplayer ok but the story is in fucking shambles partly because of SHG.

MW4 should be about revenge and Price going after Makarov and either causing 141 to fall apart/die or causes WW3 because he just wants to kill Makarov and doesn't care what he has to do to achieve that misson. Have the story be about what happens when a good man falls hard and is blinded by vengeance.

The only reason I'll play season 6 is because almost a year ago I BOUGHT THIS "GAME" (a.k.a. overpriced DLC). Truly, I miss MW 2019 days when story and more importantly, US as the fanbase, had purpose and motivation to play... no longer it seems.

I think the issue for me is that instead of the original games where you're trying to save the world, this one felt more like trying to save Urzikstan and Farah's forces in every single game.

When I played and saw how soap died I wasn’t even sad I laughed and couldn’t believe what I just saw it was hilariously bad written especially since makarov Headtaps soap and makes a smooth get away unharmed 😂😂

MW 2019 and MWII Stories were really great, MWII however had gripping edge Campaign Missions like Wetwork, Recon by Fire, Rescuing Laswell, El Sin Ombre, Dark Waters, ALONE and the final part of the final mission.

Honestly I put the full blame on activison, they didn’t give infinity ward the time they needed to make a great story post mw 2019. There are so many loose ends and things that don’t make sense anymore, plus I still don’t understand stand how zombies exist in mw3 and yet the public still doesn’t know about it. Also why add the atlas corporation into the universe this early it just ruins some many things

Credit where it’s due, they did kinda explain Makarov’s hate for Urzikstan and Russia. He hated Urzikstan because they killed Barkov, who was basically his mentor and superior and he hated Russia for basically suffering this humiliation, whereas an elite army lost to a resistance force. So with that, he hated Urzikstan for humiliating Russia and hated the current Russia for being weak. That’s why he would attack Russia, take them open their eyes and show them how weak they were

it would have been so cool to see task force 141 teaming up with David Masion and Harper in a world that's just becoming semi futuristic.

I feel like the biggest problem is how they started to go down the "old style" of Call of Duty storytelling. Meaning more bombastic with action heroes at the forefront like the whole Gaz jumping in between moving trucks and cars. While MW19 was never realistic as well (e.g. Farah fighting of big burly Russian soldiers, chase scene in Moscow) it felt like it always had this grim undertone of being somewhat grounded in reality. Not too mention the iconic Clean House mission.

The whole releasing a direct sequel to the previous year’s COD (while being produced by a different developer) was a ridiculous decision for many reasons, this being one that I didn’t think about. No way was I paying for a $70 DLC

I think the whole thing about Makarov hating Urzikstan and other nations is because he is an ultranationalist, he most likely sees the illegal dissolution of the USSR as a "humiliation" of Russia instead of a humanitarian disaster for multiple different people groups - thus, he wises to restore the Russian Empire or something similar through force

2019's story was too good for Activision to maintain. They became more interested in selling terrible gun and operator skins to maintain an engrossing grounded story.

I didn't even play mw1 n 2, I got here on mw3, I learned everything I know through this channel, n I don't plan on going back n play mw1 n 2, ima let those games rest in peace, move on, as for black ops I will forever be a fan, until the end I'll go back n play everything. 2024™

Infinity Ward needs to stop with the old characters, they literally gave us 2 awesome new characters in Alex and Farrah in MW 2019, and ever since that game those 2 characters haven’t meant anything, just in the background.

This happened because of the crybabies who forgot that shooter games are about aim and not ass sliding. So when they ruined mw3, to capitulate to the worst players, the story was scrapped with it, to create a full game instead of an expansion. Most of you don't even know the full story, as you didn't experience the hours of story added via dmz. The cod community is why the mw franchise was ran into the ground, and I hate you all for it.

Lemme explain whats actually going on since Ink missed out on it. Nolan escapes, reunites with Makarov, the remaining TF141 go on the hunt for Makarov, meanwhile he calls in additional specialists to help him achieve his plans for wrecking mayhem on Urzikstan. He partners up with Valeria to get more financial backing. Essentially in MWIV, TF 141 has to hunt down Makarov and elite members of his Konni Group who will lead TF141 to Makarov. Price resorts to harsher means to achieve his objectives. When it is clear that now Makarov wants to attack the USA with the help of Valeria, TF 141 tries to capture Valeria but Price kills her. Its a wake up call of TF 141 that Price is no longer the same. They finally track down Makarov, in the ultimatum Price fights Makarov and kills him brutally avenging Soap’s Death.

This is a clear cut example of what happens when big companies keep on changing the fundamental formula of things. The narrative directors changed between mw19 and mw2. While MW2 was not bad in of itself it did not bring the realistic and raw gritty feel mw19 had. MW3 was the cherry on top, and again due to Activision stretching SHG with constant changes in direction this was the result. As Ink says about Al-Assad, the sudden disappearance of AQ as soon as Konni show up in MW3. The sudden deaths of Soap and Shepherd really weren’t it. Gaz and Alex become background characters. What they really need now is some gap fillers or something which would add more rather than just continuing with a half told story with the effort just getting smaller as time goes on. MW4 should not be a thing until we get some more side stories. Unfortunately these will always be behind fully priced yearly titles.

I think a big part of it is that a lot of us are original fans and they kind of know that. They didn’t build on soap and price’s relationship because we all know who soap is and they showed that price knew him in the dam cutscene when soap called price on the radio. And we all know who makarov is. So they assume everyone already knows the characters and secondarily as fans of the old modern warfare series we expect more because of how good the original story was.

Mw2019 gave them the base to have a very successful reboot of the original franchise but they let Greed and Complacency let everyone down

I’ve heard multiple times in the past that, and I quote, IW should focus on campaign, 3arc should focus on zombies, and SHG should focus on multiplayer. Since Activi$ion loves to experiment with the COD formula so much these past 5 years, why not make a COD game like this just to see how it would pan out? Have each studio play to its specific strengths.

I mean why would they care to think, create and write a campaign when more and more players throughout the years don’t even care for the story in campaign. There is no Call Of Duty. There is now only Warzone.

Mw2019’s campaign was amazing, MWII was ok story wise but had great mission design and great characters, but MWIII took all that out and tried to appeal to the warzone audience

The problem is Sledgehammer. They did a great job with post-launch support and content for MWIII, but they cannot create or tell stories. Let's look at just the recent history of SHG since the studio was "rebuilt"... Vanguard was a complete narrative mess and now MWIII. Everyone can make excuses for them about time and project deliverables, but their storytelling is terrible. It's not their strength as a studio. They spent a stupid amount of time on Vanguard making, checks notes, graphic novels, but the in game story was just woeful. They created characters nobody cared about, didn't really explain them, and then the post launch story, well, the less said the better. SHG is the common link here.

Gaz was not a police officer... he was an SAS officer sergeant... For quite a few years. Check the COD wiki... "Kyle Garrick enlisted in the British Army in 2008,[2][3] serving in the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, spending four years participating in test flights, jump competition and marksmanship before passing selection for Her Majesty's elite Special Air Service (SAS), " So he was in the SAS since 2012 - and 7 years later he was picked up by price. But otherwise you are right - definetely taking under the wings. And my absolute favorite story! Had such high hopes... such a shame and waste...

I hadn't played COD for nearly a year. Thought I'd give Warzone another try this week. Its awful. I forgot how bad its become. I won't be playing again which is sad because it was so good back in 2020-22

MW 2019 is starting very good as a reboot story at start, until Warzone came in.......

What's even worse is that there was so much potential, and I was so hyped when MW 2019 came out with its darker, more serious, and gritty tone. I was genuinely excited to see how they’d handle the whole Russia/America war angle and the Shepard betrayal, followed by Makarov, all while keeping that realistic vibe they were going for. I would not say anything if MW 2019 was just bad and would go meh aight. But then MW2 completely went off track and lost the entre vibe with the god damm missiles. Shepard was only mentioned once for the betrayal, and MW3 didn’t do much except kill off Soap in what I guess you could call a "more realistic" combat scene, but there was no build-up or real payoff. I never understood why they wasted time with the whole cartel plot and the missile side story. They could’ve just stuck closer to the old MW2, updated the timeline and vibe to match the style of MW 2019, and it would've been perfect. Also note one correction about Gaz: He was not actually a police officer in MW2019 when it starts he is actually an SAS operator working with the police, that's why he switched teams to price's team so easily. A police officer would not go from police to SAS with no problems.
