Had a lump in my throat watching how my country is showing the world how we can beat racism. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still a lot of work to do, but when I was growing up in SA, blacks weren’t allowed in our school and now the kids sing together.

Separated schools are the best 2nd thing in life. You learn about friendship, you go through adventures, true romance like sneaking out to date , going to the society and attending celebrations and festivals and balls for the first time and even if it’s more than once you get butterflies and get nervous because it’s not something taking for granted it’s special and the wait totally worth it. Only Americans think mixed schools are awesome! But in reality the separated schools are the last thing that reminds us of the good times from the past. Where boys are made to be gentlemen and girls to ladies. Now in African and asian societies they are important. It’s important so the people could get together and preserve the culture and traditions that’s being washed by those with no culture to preserve!

These are private schools. Public schools in South Africa are mixed (boys and girls). As a former all boys school, warcries were part of the school culture. All boys' schools are highly sports oriented like Rugby, Cricket, Soccer etc and that's where warcries are displayed in their glory.

we don't just have boys schools. we have co-ed (co-education) schools with both girls and boys. then we have same-sex schools, which you are seeing mostly the boys schools here. but most same-sex schools are private schools.

I miss home. I went to a mixed school in Zimbabwe junior school - sports day was the best. All girls school - still same war cries. We have mixed and single sex school. Music, dancing during sporting activities is the norm. The songs are old not stolen from American culture. We have a rich culture a beautiful one. I am almost 50 and in the uk - I was shocked by the school sports days in the uk. I feel the kids here are missing out.

Technical high schools used to be boys only until recent years. When I graduated back in 2017, I was one of 6 girls in a class of 30 students... But there is boys only colleges and schools same with girls only colleges and schools that's usually private schools.
