Alot of his older songs were about him talking/pleading to God about what he needs to do or how he feels. He was very depressed in this time and I feel for young Tyler. Im so glad that he's better now.
Glad to see you back on the twenty one pilots train. I interpret this song as a cry to god. He's questioning his faith and looking to God to save him from his mind.
such an emotional song, glad you checked it out. yeah, debby ryan is married to the drummer, josh. she is also in the music video for the song Level of Concern that they released during covid.
Also, That first self titled album is incredibly deep. A lot of delving into some really serious topics. I would highly recommend Friend, Please and Trapdoor. Also, Implicit Demand for Proof, Isle of Flightless Birds, and Fall away. And this song is as far as my interpretation, and at least one other I saw in the comments is that it is a reflection of his faith and how he struggles/struggled with it, calling out for God to "wash him with his water" because he feels so lost.
From what I understand or what I get from this, the song is about the problems and questions he has of God as he tries to deal with his struggles with his mental health. I think the water represents his faith and needing to get a sign or something from God to say he's still there. But also, asking why, if God is there, he has all the problems he does with his mental health. That's what I get anyway. This is a really old song for him- he wrote it in high school I think. Debbie Ryan is married to Josh the drummer and they have Jim- their golden retriever. Tyler is the singer and is married to Jenna and has 2 daughters. Great reaction! Welcome back. It has been a minute! Please continue. There a LOT of deep songs in their repertoire. The message is often mixed in with a bopping beat and melody. The lyrics are often deep though. Peace!
